        • That was helpful, I don't need mine in a rush anyhow. Besides I'll still need to wait for my microSD and case from ebay.

    • Received it as a SMS.

    • Me too~~T_T, can I cancel it?

    • no emails for me…but my order number is now trackable….says that the job date is today at 6pm.

    • Ordered mine on 1st June around morning too. Mine still cannot be tracked on the AustPost website. But my order confirmation no. is just an 8-digit number with no alphabets. Other Ozbargainers above seem to receive somewhat different no such as QTKxxxxx. Just wonder if any other people have received confirmation no. in same format as mine? Cheers,

  • wish I had a need to buy one.

    Doptus Online order enquiries: 1300 308 730 option 3 then 2.

My friend had to basically escalate to several managers before they switched him from backorder to current…. but it wasted over 30 minutes on the phone. Perhaps someone who had it current has missed out now.

    • +5

Thats 7 no's, an 0 yes's does that sum it up for you?

    • +1

Purelight, apt name, must be what one sees when they look through your right ear!?

    • +4

      Man… you didn't get it
Once upon a time in a country far far away from here - there was a big flood. People were left without anything, but most pressingly without any food (once the water touches it it's done, you can't eat it). And there was this guy who went to the rescue shelter to get free bread, and he sent his wife, and his daughter and went again… So he ended up with 8 or 10 loafs of bread, while some others were less lucky and by the time they got there, there was no bread left until next couple of days. And this guy was so great to his neighbour that he offered him a loaf of bread for about $50. And he was, like you now, surprised that people were angry with him. You know, if he would say "Mate, you owe me beer for the hassle", that would be ok, but charging $50?
Go to eBay, you may get lucky with someone who will also buy the unlocking service on top of that for $10 :-)

    Hey guys,

    NVM found out how to.

BTW did everyone get a generic looking Chinese battery? It looks like a knock off. What about the headset? It looks quite cheap and uncomfortable too. Also, my tab came with light scratches on the screen protector, is that common?

    • +2

The battery look like a generic Chinese battery because ZTE is actually a Chinese company.

The headset they give you do suck, so I recommend getting a replacement. But this is not just with the ZTE, I have yet to see a decent pair of stock headset from any mobile brand yet (I've owned Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, Motorola, iPhone)

Also, I believe its quite common for stock screen protector to have minor scratches? Do make sure there's no scratches on the actual screen though. If you want a replacement screen protector, there a listing on ebay, $6.99 for 2

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Anti-scratch-screen-protector-f…

      • Thanks but I'd actually like to keep the protector on until it can't stay on anymore. I've never had luck (or skill) in applying a screen protector. I always end up getting bubbles under it.

Ah that makes sense, I just saw some reviews and they all had the Chinese battery so I'm not worried anymore.

Do people recommend waiting for it to fully charge before playing with it or will it be fine to be used while it's charging? First time charge is usually very important right?

CyanogenMod 7.1-RC0 on Optus MyTab Gingerbread 2.3.4
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx4b2qpgrNg

    • thanks man. do you know if this is stable? is it easy to flash it?

    • When I compare this video to other videos with 2.2, 2.3.4 looks slower. Might have something to do with their individual systems though.

    Hey, pssst…
Who really wants it from Optus and got stuck on the "Out of stock" message, there is another link :-)
It still means that you will have to wait, but so far the ordering process goes through until the name & adress details… Then I stopped as 3 is more than enough for me :-)
    Just go to:

And scroll down and down… and there it is!

  • Just bought one, at Optus in the shopping centre where Big W South Yarra is. It was the last one there!

Big W also telling me that it is on order again, and will be available in next couple of days.

He was taking names, so he can call back whoever wanted one. While I was there another person calling to get his name down…

    At $99 it's a steal!

For anyone in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, i have just seen two units at Dick Smiths at Watergardens. They still have an old sign up on the wall above saying $149, but i believe they will scan at $99. They were in the glass Optus cabinet.

  • does any one can tell me where i can get one?thanks

    • i mean in sydney.

  • Ordered mine on 1st June around morning too, however it still cannot be tracked on the AustPost website. My order confirmation no. is just an 8-digit number with no alphabets. Other Ozbargainers above seem to have received somewhat different nos such as QTKxxxxx. Just wonder if any other people have received confirmation no. in same format as mine? Cheers,

    • Check your email, quite a few got placed on backorder, optus should have send you a follow-up email

    • mine is the same 8-digits .I called on friday and they said its with the warehouse and you should get it monday/Tuesday but still untrackable .didnt receive an email saying it was on back order
will have to see on monday

      • +1

I was told warehouse still waiting for stock and should be in stock by Tuesday with delivery around mid week.

Like I said to the guy, it's not the fact it is on backorder but that there was no communication to let me know.

We'll see when it turns up.

        • I wonder how the back order works. These are Optus branded devices so it would've been made to order by the manufacturer. Does the manufacturer have 500 units sitting in the store room waiting for Optus to order some more?

        • Maybe they had more stock on the way but didn't expect current stock to sell so fast and therefore didn't expect to be in this situation. If the stock on hand had lasted till mid next week (or till the next order arrives) then there would be no problem.

Could also be that the 2nd shipment was delayed but too late to change marketing and advertising.

    • +1

I ordered around midday on the 1st, and also have an 8 digit confirmation number (not able to be tracked). I called Optus on Friday afternoon and the operator told me it was on back order, but they should get them in next week and that I will receive an sms to confirm when it was in the post. If you are concerned just give them a call, I didn't have to wait on hold at all.

    • The alphanumeric one is the MessengerPost number which they email you once the item is shipped. You can track it using either your order number or MP number but you won't get any result until it leaves the warehouse.

  • +2

One thing to watch out for in the prepaid 3GB data allowance - it works in 10mb chunks (stated in the sign up process). That is: every time you connect, no-matter how little you actually download, you're charged a minimum of 10mb. So it makes sense to turn off automatic access, don't use it in an area with intermittent signal availability, and batch your mobile internet accesses up.

    • +2

Good to know. Pretty dodgy conditions of use from Optus if that's the case and no reason for them to have to do it. Like being charged a minimum of a 10min call each time you ring someone…

      • +1

Agreed. On reflection I can't remember if it's a 10mb minimum charge (eg. use 11mb, get charged 11mb), or 10mb blocks (eg. use 11mb, get charged 20mb) .

If the latter it means on average you're going to waste 5mb every time you connect. If you connect frequently, a lot of that 3GB is going to be wasted, in effect meaning that you were never going to get 3GB in the first place. To actually get it, you'd have to connect and stay connected until it's all used. That's impossible anyway - signal too variable.

Maybe anyone signing up could clarify exactly what it says?

    • +1

I've been using my 3G data for like, 4 days straight, turning the tab on and off a lot, and I've used 100MB. Done a ton of app downloads too. I think I'm actually going to struggle to use the 3GB, so I'm not sure it's entirely necessary to ration my usage.

      • +2

I'm halfway through month 2 and havent cracked the 1gb mark

  • ditto my order number the same just numbers no letters.

And unable to track - as well

here's What I did With mine and Its Runs blazingly fast..

    Root It
Format the Card for ext4 partition (USE MINITOOL PARTITION MANAGER FREE)
    Install Cyanogen Mod 7
    Install Data2SD

BCOZ the internal memory is very less so you won't be able to install many apps or games Therefore Formatting the card and Installing Data2sd Script is Higly Crucial .

Also , as an update I work at Dse Burke st. and We Will be Getting More stock on Monday and Will be selling for $99…. For Those who can't Find Stock

    • do you know where i can get it in sydney?

    • +1

Thanks for that niksrulz. Is your unit otherwise stable and fully functional? Could you point us to any specific online tutorials you used for your steps 1, 3 and 4, particularly step 3 - the cyanogen mod install. I know a number of links have been posted here but just wanted to compare with yours as you report great success. Cheers!

The ZTE v9 is back on the DSE website. For $149.

My friend brought his from DSE for $149, Took in the receipt and $99 BigW ad and got $50 cash back. I'm sure the online deal will work as well.

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/E6572/optus-zte-v9-pre-paid-…

The Optus online Store is still out of stock, they oversold indeed! FAIL
    http://www.optus.com.au/store/phone/mytab_prepaid

    • Called DSE Top Ryde and they said they dont have stock but Lidcombe have some. Called Lidcombe DSE and they said they cannot price match if Big W dont have any in stock. So I guess Im gonna have to wait for my Optus Backorder. :)

Optus My Tab is in-stock at The Good Guys Chadstone for $99. They will do it for $95 if you pay cash!

      • Many thanks on the Good Guys heads up. Just got another one from them for $97 whilst everywhere else is sold out.

At the till, the guy behind me said
        "Is that like an iPad?"
        "Yep"
        "How much?"
        "$97"
        "Where were they again…..?"

        Another one falls.

If DSE say they wont give back $50 due to BigW being out of stock, wait until they are restocked.

DSE have a 14 day price match policy cleverly hidden on their web site.
    http://dicksmith.com.au/help/price-matching-content

Remember that there are other places offering the same product for $99, Optus Store, Australia Post, Goodguys, Telechoice.

There is no way that people should be ripped off by DSE. Everyone who has brought on is entitled to a refund of $50!

  • Given up, buying one…
    It's $200 on optus online.

    http://personal.optus.com.au/web/ocaportal.portal?_nfpb=true…

    • +1

      WHAT?!

    • +1

not even that cheap, it's $269, not $200.

      • +1

I don't know if this will work or not but after you open the link above do a search with "My Tab" keyword and choose the first result. You may see the $149 price and you can click the buy button and it will show $99 on the PO. I tried and it worked until the payment request and I stop after that because I already order one before it running out of stock. Good luck.

        • Thank you!
          You are the god!

      • On the link I provided.
It's $199 when you put it through the checkout… No idea why…

  • +2

Well, ordered mine from optus online at 8am on 1st June, got delivered to my door 1 hour ago …. now time to play!

    • +3

Upgrade the firmware and buy a decent memory card, get a leather cover and you are set

  • Hmm.. If DSE can get new stock, why can't Optus. o_O?!

  • +1

called auspost to query where in SA have them. Pt Lincoln, Millicent, Victor Harbour, Katherine, Alice Springs have limited stock… all too far for myself, but letting others know that might be interested.

  • +1

Just got one at dick smith in the galleria cnr bourke & Elizabeth in Melbourne. Told them optus and bigw price was 99 and dse matched. They had 3 left (got 4 in this morning).

    • Hey, I called them and they said they won't give for $99.
Can you confirm you got it for $99 ?

      • Yes. Salesman name was cosmin.

        • I called him right now, he confirmed, so thanks I am going to run and get it.

        • +1

          Got it!
          Thanks kaddude
There are still few left (one was going to another buyer while I was there), so be quick.

  • DSE, Burke St said they have in stock but they are asking $149. Despite mentioning others are selling at $99, they will not price match it to $99.
If anyone gets to price match with any DSE could you please confirm here?
Also, none of the telechoice seems to have it around Melbourne (you need to call them individually, which is a pain).

    • same here, I went there, and they will not price match it to 99 either

    • +2

I got DSE at Plenty Valley to pricematch for $99, they had 1 left after I got mine. They initially resisted, but i persisted….hey I'm a poet and I didn't even know it!

Optus online now saying delivery didn’t arrive and have no ETA could be 2 weeks away . They said best to cancel and go find one in a store – great customer service

If you didn’t receive an email this doesn’t mean you will be getting one I didn’t receive one. And was also told on Friday mine was on its way but no
    they were full of sh_t

Now time to hunt one down

    • Yup, I can confirm that, except i was told by the CSR that they were looking at a month until more stock could be delivered, as it was coming directly from the manufacturer.
Third call, third different story. I could call tomorrow and it'd be changed again.

Absolutely ridiculous, I ordered online from Optus expecting that'd be the safest option, yet many who ordered after my order have started getting theirs. CSR stated that metropolitan centre orders were processed and fulfilled first, useful for those of us without anywhere we can actually buy it from locally.
Apart from the initial confirmation email, I've received nothing stating that the order was delayed, I've had to call them, only to be told now that I should just cancel the order.
Bloody frustrating and downright slack customer service.

      • CSR called me because I had clicked that "would like to be contacted section".

She said it would be about 2 months until the order would be filled, so I told her I wanted it to be cancelled and I was "dodododo" transferred to the cancellation department.

        • Wow it is 2 months now … I remember when I call them this morning they mention probably just a few days … and it seems keep growing … :(

  • No more left at DSE, Burke st.

FYI: Cosmin seem to be the store manager. The initial salesman wasn't very confident that he could make it 99$, so has to confirm it with cosmin, but all the stocks are gone.
They offer to pre-order it, so I'll pay 99$ and will give me a call to pick it up as soon as they have one (great sales effort), but even head office don't have any left, so may have to wait a week at least.

  • I'm left wondering why Optus (and everyone else for that matter) would drop the price if they had so little stock? Clearly they were selling pretty well at $149…

    • Probably they need to clear all their stock soon since it almost end of financial year but went to far.
Another reason is Samsung Galaxy Tab also drop their price earlier.

  • and meanwhile Optus have already charged $99 to my CC >.>

  • +1

ordered on 1 June, and I couldn't track my order until this morning. but tracking now and shows "un allocated" .
Just called Optus, they said its on the way . the optus guy said i should get it by tomorrow. finger cross…..

    • around what time did you order?
i placed mine around 2:30 and still haven't been able to track it..

      • +2

I ordered around 11:30am on the 1st. I am very un-happy with Optus. I rang last Thursday the 2nd and they said it would be dispatched Friday the 3rd. Today I rang and the guy mentioned mine was on back order. I complained about them selling me something they had no stock for. I also mentioned I was told it would be sent last week. It seems each time you ring you get a different story. Was also thinking that if you multiply out how many people are in the same boat as I am and the fact that I have had my credit card charged $99 they are almost criminals! Perhaps they are, is there a law for this sort of thing?
Being a first time Optus customer, kinda leaves a bad taste with this company.

        • Criminals? What a Drama Queen!
Sounds like you have never dealt with a communications company before.
In this particular case, nobody set out to rip you off.

      • +1

I can't remember the time, but around lunch time for sure.
I couldn't track it till this morning, and called Optus last week before and they said there is a delay and mine was backorder.
but lunchtime today i can track, then called Optus at 5PM.
even the guy was very helpful, he called the austpost to check my delivery, and gave me the ref number and said i should get it by tomorrow.

        • just received mine 5 minutes ago.
thanks OP! and good luck to everyone who is still waiting.

      • Being a first time Optus customer, kinda leaves a bad taste with this company.

Dude, when it comes to customer service, that taste is their regular flavour! Don't worry though, as Freddy infers, Brand T & Brand V invoke a similarly sour tang on the palate! :p

        • lol yeah

I know I got carried away in my other post. It seems like this level of service is common place in Australia. I wonder if its because we let them get away with it, perhaps also the lack of real competition?

Anywho, the real reason I posted was to just let other people who purchased around the same time as me know what to expect, as Optus is not telling anyone.

      • I got mine delivered today from Optus.

  • +1

So how the hell am I supposed to play most games when I can only touch one thing at a time??
Are there any good puzzle games?

  • I bought one yesterday at Stanhope but I am not able to figure how it will work with a SIM that I already have………….can anybody guide

    • Yes , you will need to unlock the device to use a different sim, if its an Optus sim it should work straight away.

Once unlocked you will need to choose or set the APN, the easiest way is to let it search itself and then select.

      Good luck
