  • Can anyone comment if they've used this before? I've been half-heartedly looking for a new head unit to put in my 2006 Toyota Yaris, maybe this fits the bill?

    • +4

Get something with AA/Carplay. Not this

      • Thanks for the tip, any recommendations?

        • Not really tbh, anything from the bigger brands (Alpine/Sony/Pioneer) just purely for ease of use and longevity.

          Look for a SuperCheap sale
As cheap as $399, or even this at $497.

Bear in mind I haven't researched best prices etc, merely checked SCA for their offerings

        • We have a big range of Apple CarPlay Android Auto units we should be able to beat anyone on price.

We also have car bundles if your car is one we have a bundle for they usually the cheapest easiest way to upgrade your audio system.

          https://automotivesuperstore.com.au/audio-visual/car-audio-b…

Keep in mind that any car play unit is going to be at least 3-4x the price of this unit.

      • +3

AA / CarPlay units are 3-4x the price just to get a decent entry level unit..

This unit is not really playing in the same field it's more for someone who wants to add some bluetooth connectivity to perhaps an older car without spending to much money but still have a decent quality product..

      • I've got Android Auto in my work van and I never use it. Honestly it's a total waste.

        • Handy if you want Google Maps, and it's a bit more future-proof.

Spending $150 and install cost/hassle? May as well spend a bit extra and get more. Depending on the next car, can always just chuck it in the next one.

Unless you are getting a wireless Carplay/AA headunit (presently almost all of them require USB connection to the handset except the top-tier models) this head unit is a great choice and is exceptional value at this price. The only thing carplay/AA would offer over this is navigation on the head unit display, which is neither here nor there really. I have never liked having Nav in the centre stack but thats just my preference.

I used carplay in two different cars for 2 weeks while overseas and I was not sold that its a better solution until its wire free and they make better use of the screen real estate.

This head unit will do all of the stuff a Carplay unit would, at a much lower price.

from a different perspective, industry standard is usually 3 pre-outs, but its by no means a deal breaker if you just want to upgrade your head unit.

    • My wife has this head unit in her Mazda 3.

Steer well clear. My no-name, eBay special from China is far better… and that was purchased almost a decade ago!

      Main gripes:
      - listening to audio via bluetooth = track nanes don't update (using Spotify on Android phones - they work fine on other head units)
      - bluetooth audio is really soft (cranked BT on phone and it's pathetic compared to the stock unit it replaced)
      - interface is horrendous/clunky

  • Interested to see how well mirroring google maps

    • -2

What gave you the impression it screen mirrors? It's basic

      • +1

Rear HDMI Input with MHL Compatibility

        • -2

          Ah yes, @ 720x480 - Yuck

To put it in perspective, a Samsung Galaxy S2 had a screen resolution of 800x480. That phone came out 8 years ago

    what is a "CD"?

    • The head unit can play audio CD's.

    • Something that someone from "OzBargin" would use to listen to music I think

    • It's one of those records with tracks that are too fine for the stylus to fit in.

  • Rep, how can I add the optional rear camera mentioned in the details?

Also which alpine wiring harness can I use with it?

    • Hi Kiwi,

We have added some reverse camera options you can select from.

In terms of the harness can you please let us know what car you have so i recommend the correct item?

      • Thanks for that.

I have a 2000 Toyota Celica. It already has an aftermarket stereo so I believe it has the Toyota to ISO harness installed. Just need to know which if these 7 will connect the stereo to the ISO: https://automotivesuperstore.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=…

          • @autoss: Wait, so the wiring loom out of the box fits right into the aerpro ISO socket? I've never heard of that before… Normally you need another harness to connect the head unit to the ISO socket, it is mentioned on that Toyota to ISO connector you just linked:

After selecting your primary harness you then select a secondary harness to connect between the ISO connectors and the aftermarket head unit that you have ( this is selected based on what brand and type of head unit you have.

            • +1

@Kiwi131313: Hi Kiwi in this case the unit accepts the iso connection from the app0141..

              • @autoss: Awesome, thats makes things super easy. Thanks for your help.

  • What reversing camera will work with this head unit? Is it Alpine units or will other brands work too?

    • We have added some reverse camera options to the unit..

There is the genuine alpine HCE-C205RD whilst this is a more expensive camera it's a multi-view camera.. Otherwise you can use any regular reverse camera we have a range here.

Does this work well with Android? i see that it says "Made for iPhone and iPod". my current unit which is a few years old doesn't work with my android phone while plugged in with usb.

    • Yes it will via bluetooth so you will able to take phone calls and stream music.

    • doesn't work with my android phone while plugged in with usb.

Course not. It'll be looking at the phone as external storage, certainly not for music. Use USB flash drives for USB playback, or use Bluetooth for Spotify etc.

Only exception for USB is Carplay/AA which this certainly doesn't have

It's $155.70 Posted on your eBay store with code PHOENIX. So really you're offering us a $5.70 discount…

    • That's a mistake thank you for pointing it out we will adjust the eBay price..

    • It's $147.05 delivered on eBay now. OP should link to their eBay store instead. Even cheaper with discounted gift cards.

      • It's $173 on eBay i know there are some coupon codes floating around but they are eBay initiatives not ours so they are temporary.. The Ozbargins discount price will run on our site till we are out of stock.

  • Hi OP, can it be installed in a 2011 Toyota Camry? I have the Toyota fitted 7" touch screen but want something that has Android auto.

    • +2

This doesn't have AA or CarPlay. It's a very basic HU

      • That is correct this unit is perfect for people who want to add Bluetooth connectivity to their car with a touch interface on a budget.

        • Bluetooth is something I already have, not much use to me then. Thanks anyway.

  • ..would this 'fit' in a 2010 Honda Jazz?

  • Interested in grabbing it for a 2012 Impreza hatch. Would you be able to link me which harnesses I'll need? :)

  • Hi, what else would I need for installation in a 2011 ford mondeo to keep steering wheel control working

  • If I was putting this in a mid-2000 Corolla Sedan with nothing fancy in it (cameras, sensors, wheel buttons etc.) I shouldn't need any kind of extra kit?

  • Rep, What additional items would I need to put it in a Mitsubishi Grandis VRX 2007?
    Thanks

    • Hi, low volume imports are a little tricky depending on:
      (a) if the unit was replaced prior to being imported into Australia, and/or
      (b) what wiring has been modified

Best to call our team on 1300 889 116 (option 2 for Electronics)

      • Thanks but the Grandis is not a low volume import it was sold by Mitsubishi Australia for 7 years from 2003 to 2010.

  • Do you have any thoughts about a 2015 Xtrail with the std. reverse camera which I wish to retain.

  • What wiring will I need to purchase to make this a plug and play installation for a 2018 great wall steed? (I've found the necessary fascia online). Also thinking about adding a reverse camera, is it difficult to wire up? Thanks!

    • Hi, to keep your factory steering wheel controls there is no true plug and play solution as these wires will need to be tested and hard-wired into the harness along with relocating some wire positions in the factory harness.

Cameras are quite straight forward but again will need to be hardwired into the vehicles reverse light circuit and cables run through waterproof grommets etc.

We do offer installation services at our location in Sydney.

      • Thanks for the reply. I live in Sydney. What is a rough cost for this unit + installation with reverse cam?

        • Hi Scott,

It's best to call our 1300 889 116 number and press option 2 and talk to one of our guys as the price can range widely depending on the car.

  • Rep - What is needed to get this all singing/dancing with a 2009 Suzuki Swift? Any install vids etc that can help out a rookie too? Thanks in advance.

I have just received and installed mine. Here are my thoughts:

    • The sound quality is pretty bad. It sounds fairly dead, as though it was being played under water. I am not an audiophile by any means, I love my $20 earphones, but this unit sounds like you're listening to $3 Aliexpress earphones. I have played around with the EQ settings but it still seems off. Not a speaker problem as this wasn't a problem on my old unit.
    • I haven't fully confirmed yet, but I think there is a constant low level background buzzing. If I select Bluetooth without playing anything from my phone the buzzing is there when it should be silent. If the buzzing is always there it might be the cause of the sound issue in my previous point.
    • The mic for calling is located on the actual unit, there is no input for an external mic. I haven't been able to test out how I sound when calling someone yet, but I have checked my voicemail and my Samsung phone pairs quickly and the call quality is good.
    • Not sure if this is just a problem on my car or what but I followed the advice of OP and got an Aerpro harness for my Toyota. It was super easy, and he was correct, you only need one harness, the ISO just plugs right into the unit which is super helpful. However, The unit had the yellow constant power and the red switched/accessory power switched with each other! This meant it wasn't getting constant power and every time I turned my car off I would lose things like the time and my equaliser settings. So I had to cut and swap the yellow and red wires on the Aerpro harness. Here is a crude MSPaint drawing of what I mean. It works perfectly now.
    • It's too much trouble to install a reversing camera in my hatchback so I didn't bother, so I can't comment on that.
    • My car doesn't have a dimmer wire so you have to manually dim the screen. I found an easy workaround if you don't have a reversing camera though. Settings►Camera►Camera Select►Off. Then press back and ensure Guideline and Camera View Auto are both turned OFF and Camera Sound is turned ON. Now, when you press the camera button on the top left of the unit it will turn the display off but you can continue to listen to music.

Overall, I am satisfied, but only barely. This unit is not worth the RRP and is only worth the sale price if you really need a new unit. My old headunit decided not to pair with my phone any more so I needed a new one. Think of this as the lowest level touchscreen double din head unit you should buy; probably good to put in an older car but if your unit already has Bluetooth then I wouldn't bother.

Here is a direct link to the Manual if anyone needs it.

    • Sorry to hear :/

    • I got my unit about 1 week ago here are some of my thoughts after using it for a little bit.

-Song not updating on the head unit when using spotify on my android device(galaxy s8), It will just stay at the first song played and not update.
-For some reason the radio starts searching for channels while I'm listening to a station, not sure if I've enabled some setting for that…..
-The mic quality is pretty bad while driving on any kind of noisy road.
-I'm pretty much unable to read the unit if there is any kind of sunlight directed on it.
-It's very sluggish to use even over my old unit which was maybe 5 years old and has no bluetooth.
-The audio quality isn't very good.

I would say that it's not worth buying this unit and I might just use my old head unit and stick to AUX, waste of $150 IMO.

  • hmm 2 PreOuts? sub out?

  • What parts would you recommend I buy for installing the head unit into a 2010 Civic, other than the fascia kit.

      • Thanks for that.

There's a few parts that pop up that I don't think I'd need, e.g. SWC harnesses (no volume controls only cruise control on the steering wheel), and factory head unit antenna adapters.

I think I'd need the 1) primary harness - ISO, 2) T-Harness and 3) aftermarket head unit antenna adpater

        I know you're not a rep, but whatd'ya reckon?
