Following on from my last post, eBay informed me that the 8TB Seagate 3.5" USB 3.0 Backup Plus External HDD PN STEL8000300 with USB Hub (the Seagate equivalent for the 8TB 3.5" hard drive with a two USB port hub) is now the same price at $239.20 after coupon + $15 shipping if not eBay Plus. This is Australian stock with a 3 year local warranty.

Not sure what hard drives are inside for those looking to shuck it - the previous WD deal has been rumoured to have decent drives though > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/455804

  • $222 for the WD version from amazon AU.

WD version much better, not an SMR drive

    • As stated above, Seagate version better for archiving as it uses SMR drive. WD version is better as it will come with WD's helium filled drives. Only the 10TB version of the seagate comes with Helium filled drives.

    • If you don't mind waiting 2 months for delivery and having your order cancelled at the last minute due to insufficient stock.

Computer Alliance shipped my DS918+ the day after I ordered it. Paying $17 dollars more to order from a vendor that actually understand how to fulfill orders is worth it.

Move over, Kogan. Computer Alliance are the new price jacking pros.

Been looking at NAS and drives during this sale, and CA are well over and above the price of everyone else. The discount is about 10% at best. A Qnap NAS I was considering was $399 retail, or $450 + $15 postage through CA. ($375 from CA @ 20% vs $360 from PC_LAN @ 10%)

Better to wait for a 10% off site wide code and go with another seller that offers free shipping.

im also in the market for a NAS, I've noticed that trickery with price jacking so all in all we don't receive the 20% if you were to compare prices to other sellers.

Sometimes you might find a gem of a deal, but I have found that these sales only lead to jacked prices. People get sucked in by the 20% off and think it has to be a good price and dont do any homework.
