Note that an 8th generation i5 processor is way better than a 7th generation i7 processor.

    • +2

      yes. i7-7500U is effectively i3-8130U.

For those looking: 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s); 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data transfer only)

  • I wouldn't personally buy an i7 7th gen for anything over $600. It's pretty easy to find something like a dell refurb 8th gen for $750ish.

      With touch screen and 940mx?

I don't think HP posted in this deal has touch screen either. Radeon 530 is quite similar in performance.

hi there i have no idea if it is touch but itech product title said FHD-Touch so i assume it is touch screen. Credit to pricehipster, i saw it around 50% off then share it here, best to check with itech to confirm.

  • is this a dual core or quad core i7

    • +1

      dual

  • Wait a minute , are you sure its touch screen?

    15.6inch touch screen 8gb, 256gb, for $709???

    What am i missing?

Can't see any mention of touch screen on the product page or the sale page in the deal, not sure if the OP has made a mistake here? HP ImagePad refers to their touchpad "mouse" with multi touch gesture support rather than a touch screen.

      • +1

Yeah I've seen 5 links with no mention of a touch screen.

It seems only the itech one says touch screen

I'd also expect a 15.6" touch screen to cost 2k+

    • I'm waiting for generation 17

Owned a Pavilion once. Twice actually. Never again.

The machine overheated after a few weeks to the point where it was so slow it was unusable, so dangerously hot it would burn blisters, and the shape of the metal frame was bent due to the extreme heat it produced.

After months and months of phone calls (over 80 hours), they finally replaced my machine. By the time this one had arrived it was out of warranty. Within days it was overheating again and effectively useless, and HP were… just horrible. Literally flushed a thousand dollars down the drain.

I have owned many laptops and built my own computers and I have to say I have never experienced anything near the incompetence of a HP laptop or HP customer service.

    Buyer beware.

    Anything beats HP crap.

Agree. I'll never buy HP ever. Unethical shit company.

      • HP = Horrible Products

Lot's of corporates have HP as their fleet unit so they can't be all that bad. All batteries give up the ghost sooner or later. My current HP is about 5 years old and the battery died about a month ago. Replaced it with another.

      • +1

No. It is bad. Elitebook is no match to Latitude or T series.

        • I'm (still) using an Elite Notebook Folio 9470m. Can't tell you exactly how old it is but they were released around 2012/13. Mine still has a Windows 7 sticker on it. It's my work computer so gets a fair bit of use, goes in the back pack everyday and for a couple of years on the pushy as well so copped a bit of damp in the rain. My company still has a huge number of these along with Surface devices. It's reliable.

I did have a consumer grade HP for personal use a long time go and it did run hot but it never failed. I just accepted that it ran hot. I'm not a particular advocate for HP. I've used Dell, Asus, HP and Acer laptops but my personal favourite was/is the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad. The Acer was the least well built and it's a shame that they don't make the Thinkpad Helix anymore.

          For OzBoganYeah,

Any negotiation for corporate device purchase will include device support for the working life of the asset. Often that's around 3+ years. This means that for the support period the vendor ensures that the device will have replacement parts, firmware and software updates for the supported operating systems. The details you seek will be in the contract and that's going to vary by company. This is one of the reasons why a business grade laptop costs more and it's something you typically dont get with a consumer device.

      • The one thing HP does well is guarantee replacement hardware for their products for many years so that you can be up and running quickly after a failure, that's why corporates buy, it's about cost of ownership where downtime is extremely expensive.

        • Really? Is bthere a source for that that I could read? I'm gunienely interested as I've just bought a Pavilion.

    • Similar story here, owned two HP laptops around 12 years ago, overheated all the time. Never again.

    • This is very concerning as I just bought a Pavilion several weeks ago. Now I'm really worried. Is there anything I could do to prevent or minimise the overheating and battery issues? Are there any other brands you'd recommend over HP?

      • +1

Don't worry about it. Winter is coming. Think about it again in 6 months' time.

  • HP’s battery has time bomb. It works for 899 max recharge cycle and stop working from fully functional long lasting battery to dead soon after that. That’s what happened to my Probook.

  • Gee, lots of HP bashing. to be honest I find there mid range laptops better but yeah my spectre 360 , i7 5500u , 512g SSD, which is about 4 years old now gets hot and the fan is annoyingly loud quite often but love the size and the portability of it, 13". But was v overpriced then. The current ones look much nicer, not sure about their fan noise
