Air Asia Bigger Than Big 10th Anniversary Sale

315

Air Asia is having a mega big sale starting tomorrow.

Whether it's any good or not; we'll have to wait and see.

Apparently there will be 10c fares up for grabs with no fuel surcharge. I'm guessing these will only apply to domestic routes but who knows.

Book from 23 (12pm GMT+8) to 29 May 2010.
Travel from 6 February to 20 June 2012.

Better start making plans for next year.

Mod: Edited year to 2012

    6th February this year?

  • What's the deal?

  • checked the link, says that the notice will only kick in tomorrow at 2pm, so i guess till then we have to wait :/

    • +1

I've saved thousands, yes, thousands, buying airasia tickets from sales such as this. Not neg worthy.

      EDIT:

Supposed to be reply to neg voter below.

  • -5

Just to let you guys know. Don't get your hopes up with such sales. I have followed Air Asia sales the last few times and basically its madness, their servers can't handle it. Not a single person on facebook reckons they got a deal. Once an AirAsia rep accidentally admitted on facebook that they only have a couple of tickets on some flights (so its near impossible to get a whole journey for cheap). So good luck getting a real deal. If anyone does I will be more then happy to hear from you.

    • +3

I've gotten basically tax only deals on multiple occasions.

I'm aiming to get two separate trips to Bali tomorrow for under $300 return each. I'll let you know how it goes.

      • I've got my first return trip for $175 return inc all taxes and surcharges.

Working on a second one now.

    • I've gotten plenty of cheap Airasia sales fares. Just because you couldn't is no valid reason for a negative

      • I mean the ridiculous type of sales where things are 10c etc etc. Remember how London to Australia was supposed to be like less then $100.

I doubt anyone will get a decent 10cent deal. Maybe for one side… but they will pay the rest. I am not saying Air Asia doesn't provide competitive rates. I am saying that these type of particular deals are sh*t cause they don't work.

        • +1

Yes, I've gotten heaps of $0 plus tax airfares for both Australia and within Asian flights. Sorry to break it to you, but yes they do work but of course they are limited.

        • FYI, a couple of years ago I was able to get Gold Coast Kuala Lumpur return including 15kg baggage and a meal for around $150. It was the promotion where you only had to pay tax. So sorry to break it to you but bargains do exist, although you do have to look hard to find them. So if past experiences are of any indication for this deal, to me at least, I'd say some people would find some bargains.

    • They have plenty of great sales/seats. You just can't be to chosey with the dates.

      Beggers can't be choosers!

      • And funnily enough, I've found that works out well in combination with the long term dates. You're getting 8-13 months to get time off work and plan what you want to do.

    • Ive gotten ridiculously cheap tickets from air asia ($200 return to KL). Their service is fantastic for a cheap airline.

    • +1

So true. Whenever I have tried to log onto the site during a sale it has been very slow. Actually trying to book an airfare generates a server side error message and a request to try again later.

    • So because you couldn't get one, no one else should?

    • I got an awesome deal in march (this year) that got me from the gold coast to KL for $150 inc. luggage and taxes

  • Try mobile site?

  • -8

Yes these are given free but i find that booking so far ahead is a fair deal and not a bargain…Just an opinion :)

Dont worry i still love you all haha

  • I would say there won't be Australia deals,
it will only be KL(Malaysia) to Asia/other countries!
it's good only if you flying to KL, then flying elsewhere

    • Yeah, I think that's the case whenever they have these kind of 'crazy super cheap' type deals.

    • It might be good for those who booked earlier on the Malaysian Airlines deal :) Australia to Europe via KL. If you've got a couple stopovers, you can now fly to another location (if your stopover is long enough)

  • I find if I can generally book well in advance with them its the best deal anyway. The saving is quite substantial even without these promotions. And I'm talking about premium flights to London.
Perhaps if you are lucky enough to get a, eg. KL to Vietnam flight for $25 its a good deal for someone looking for that sort of thing.
Good luck to those hoping that they get what they want.

  • Are posting deals before we even know what they are allowed?

    • probably not, but who cares. This is the kind of thing where knowing before it starts is half the battle. Just let it slide.

    • I'd say it depends on the deal. For a deal like this would you prefer to know before the sale or once the sale has started and most of the cheap seats have been sold? You decide.

  • i love air Asia, i think they are the best. in the past i managed to get a Melbourne to kl return for $325. and i just recently booked a Bangkok to Delhi return at Xmas time for $278.00 return and it wasn't even a special. when you are in kl or most other sth east Asia countries, tickets are at most $50 one way.

regardless of servers being overloaded this airline in my opinion hands down beats any others on price.

    Booking starts 12PM, 23 May 2011 - 29 May 2011
    Travel period: 6 Feb - 20 Jun 2012

  • Has anyone flown with air asia and decided not to pick a seat. Did u guys get good seats upon checkin or just thrown around.

In total we are 3 people travelling - 2 us and 1 child and i think selecting to pick the seats are a bit costly.

    $30 to pick a seat x 3 x 4 flights in total = $360. :O

should i take the risk or better pay before.

    • +1

I travelled with wife and 2 kids and didn't pick a seat. The stupid kiosk check in system allocated us over 3 rows all over the place. If you got kids, my advice is to checkin at the luggage counter. We went there and all fixed up. Airasia is 3-3-3 seating so for you, 3 seats anywhere is perfect, just be there early and I'm sure they will find 3 seats in a row for you.

      • thanks for the advice

    • +2

You will be able to view your seats when you check-in online (4 days before departure?). If they are scattered at different places, you can pay and pick your seats at that time. If you are lucky then you can save the extra money. HTH.

    • Dude, it's $3 to pick a regular seat or $11 to pick a "hot seat" (ie ones near exits). Where does $30 come from?

That said, I agree with what was said above. Just rock up early on in the check in process and get a row to yourself.

    • We (my wife and I) pick seats for the longer haul flights but do not bother with the short haul. Probably different considerations with kids - definitely don't pick your seats then somebody else can look after them while you enjoy some peace and quiet.

  • Anyone know the price of Gold Coast Kuala Lumpur return ?

    • +2

      $180

Booking Goldie to KL, then KL to Vietnam return, KL to Singapore return, then home for Dad and I.

  • So $180 return from Gold coast to KL for one adult?

    • I doubt it is that cheap for a return. From my experience with them $180 sounds more like a one way to KL. Return tickets range from about $350+

      • -1

I got $300 return last time I went. The list says $90 one way atm….

  • ok thanks

  • hmm so if i wanted to get a flight from sydney to manila..

i'd have to get a ticket domestic flight from syd-melb however much that will cost then $200 melbourne to kuala lumpur then $25 from kuala lumpur to manila?

seems like the jetstar sale is better then

    • +1

Obvious downfall is that AirAsia doesn't service Syd.
      Melb ftw!

  • I did the sale last year. Went MEL - KL, KL - Sing, Sing - KL, KL - HK, HK - KL, KL - MEL

Tickets cost $480 in total including baggage and food etc.

I couldn't fault them. Every flight was on time, the attendants were nice and there was about as much room as you'd get on an Aussie flight.

  • +6

Here's a breakdown that focuses on flights out of Australia.

    Melbournites:
Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur - Chengdu AUD 299.00
Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur - Mumbai AUD 259.00
Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur - London AUD 449.00
    Melbourne - Taipei - AUD 299
    Melbourne - KL - AUD 200

    Gold Coastians:
Gold Coast - Kuala Lumpur - Hangzhou (Shanghai) AUD 299.00
Gold Coast - Kuala Lumpur - Chengdu AUD 299.00
Gold Coast - KL AUD 200

    Perthsters:
Perth - Kuala Lumpur - Hangzhou (Shanghai) AUD 249.00
Perth - Kuala Lumpur - Chengdu AUD 249.00
Perth - Kuala Lumpur - Mumbai AUD 209.00
Perth - Kuala Lumpur - New Delhi AUD 249.00
Perth - Kuala Lumpur - Taipei AUD 249.00
Perth - Kuala Lumpur - London AUD 399.00
    Perth - Bali AUD 125
    Perth - KL AUD 150
    Darwin - Bali AUD 100

(From KL there's a whole bunch of crazy cheap flights)

    So good!

    • Is that for 1 way cos if its return then that's CRAZY!

      • KL to Mel/GC is 84

Am thinking about going to Kota Kinabalu myself. If I can get onto the website…

    • +1

      I hope its return!

      • going by MEL-LON (via KUL), i'd say that's one-way.

another example of how we're all financially abused! @$#%!e$

      • It looks to be one way and you'd be paying full price to get back thus i don't think it's too crazy.

      • Their ad on the site says $200 one way Mel-KL.

  • I'm struggling to get an account on the site…

    • +1

Same for some reason mine doesn't exist anymore. Don't have passport number now so going to put incorrect one and then update when I find it. Hope its ok!

  • I tried 3/4/2012 to 10/4/2012 says no flights available for that time, its not even scheduled, and the deal is for that time?

    • Wait until 2pm AEST when the sale starts.

  • How to stop AirAsia spam?
The unsub link in email leads to a page with broken javascript.

  • +1

Oh nice I can just input my passport information later. Thought it was compulsory when booking. Its not! Thats great

  • 2pm?? I thought it started at 12pm?

Gold Coast to KL Return, the cheapes I found was approx $1200 for 2 people. What am I doing wrong?

    • The sale starts +8GMT. So 12pm in Perth.

    • It looks like you could get it for $284 each return in the sale. Although what are you doing to do in KL?

      • +1

Not to much to do in KL than shop :) Took 4 days of hardcore shopping just to complete 3 of there shopping centers.

      • KL is just the fly through point. It's not a question of what to do in KL but where to go once you get the tickets to KL.

  • Just wanted to go to KL for 1 week. Wanna get good tickets

    • dont think so, 5mins to go, unless i cant find any fares…

      • yeah not yet.

      • same here.can't find anything yet

        • Is it started yet? Im still getting no dates for flights in april and may.

        • No luck either…

  • Think it has started cos the site keeps crashing on me :(

  • It should have started. I managed to find flights Mel-KL for $200 one way. Return ticket is usual price.

Edited to add: I searched 6 Feb to 15 Feb. It was $200 for Mel-KL and $384 for KL - Mel. As it's only one way, it's not that "crazy" as one poster mentioned. Comes to the same price as the MAS deal.

    • You need to hunt down a cheap price on a return flight. They will be there.

      • Yeah, found some $150 fare for the return leg. Site's really slow though.

  • +1

Not handling it, crashing out….No results coming back.

Have found return for $200 which is expensive for AA from KL - Goldie

  • Found $200 Gold Coast - KL and $162.50 KL to Gold Coast.

  • i'm out. too much traffic. will try to see what's left over in the night.

  • +2

Yep. Can't connect. This is almost as useless as a Catch of the Day sale. Maybe they share the same crappy connection.

    • I finally got past the first hurdle, entered my flight details and entered the waiting room in an endless loop…

Welcome to our waiting room! Don’t worry, you’re already in queue to grab the best fares we have. We will update this search again in 15 … 14 … 13 … sec

      • +2

        • +1

          awesome

        • +1

I'll pay then $1 extra if i can book something for them to upgrade their servers.

        • Oooh - I made it another level … found dates with flights available (MEL-KUA $200 there, $150 back) … then back into the loop

  • Found flights from GC for $200 to KL on 9 June returning 16 June @ $162.

Decided we're not booking though as we're going to bali in January and married a year later.

  • Upgrade your serves AA.

Want to neg the deal, but OZB says can;t revoke my vote. Oh well.

  • +1

And now it's looped in the waiting room. I'm starting to think i should neg this based on the fact that 1: it aint working and i'm not the only one and 2 - the deal cannot be confirmed.

Trust me I've seen people whinge about it, make sure you are prepared :)...anyway mine did indeed go through, and thats about $600 cheaper then I payed last yr. Now to get my next leg !

Make that $877m slugged me with a $32 convenience fee….anywhere I can slug them with my afternoons wages that I lost???

  • As mentioned above, with a little patience and perseverance I have gotten my first trip to Bali from Perth for $175 return.

If you have neither patience nor perseverance, you're not going to get squat.
