    • Lol "copped one", this was a great deal. Can't imagine anyone willing to sell for 40 more.

They're back in stock at around $288, so you could cop your own!

Ended up copping one at what looks like the final hour of the deal after contemplating all night and morning, cheers OP. Would have been so mad if I missed it

I'm sort of the opposite, and proud of myself for resisting.

  • I know this deal is expired but I wanted to ask some of you knowledgeable chaps some advice on my next tech purchase.

I need a laptop or tablet for my son primarily. He's started High School and I really need to get him a separate 'homework' device. What matters the most is price point and being able to run Microsoft applications. I don't know if at some point we're going to run into issues for what he might get thrown at him if he uses a Chromebook. Like… can the Android MS Office applications be enough (powerpoint, word, excel etc)? Or is it too basic? Do I need to go the Surface Go route?

What I don't like is paying subscription for MS Office! I'd rather buy a Student version outright, but then that does increase the overall purchase price point when factoring that in. Is the MS Office app expensive or subscription based also?

Basically I think we'll upgrade whatever we get in about 2-3yrs time, so this really is for Years 7-9/10.

    Anyone chime in?

    Cheers!

Chromebooks are great for students as they are simple, secure and can save everything in the cloud (if it's broken or lost very easy to switch to new device). Does he need the Microsoft applications? I have been using the free Google alternatives for years without a problem. If he does need the MS apps try them out on Another Android device first, then check that the Chromebook you are interested in has the ability to use Android apps, or could use the online versions?

      • Honestly I don't know. It's hard to predict what the school will throw at them over the course of the years to come. Perhaps I am best to ask some of his teachers.
