Many conflicting responses from eBay customer service reps in the comments below. Some have successfully gained $5 vouchers, others have been told it's a targeted promo. Hopefully eBay will adjust the T&Cs to clarify the status of this code.

    Doesn’t work

  • +1

Unfortunately didn't work. Bit of a waste of time.

    • +2

ebay is wasting everyone's time with $5 off

  • i tried the online chat and when asked where i saw the code i sent them this link : https://pages2.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/app5off
they gave me a voucher to apply on my current order and was able to use it. thanks OP.

    • They also told me that they have escalated this with their technical team and the "APP5OFF" code should be working later hopefully.

  • +1

Fyi 2 out of 3 of my ebay accounts had $10 vouchers pop up when i logged in on my PC. No min spend. Not related to this deal just a heads up for those with multiple accounts.

    • -7

can you share one if not using :)

    • Just checked and found a $10 discount on one account, wouldn't have checked if i hadn't read your comment.

      Thanks mate.

"Please know that the APP5OFF is only for targeted members and ozbargain or other site aside from eBay are not valid to advertise eBay promotions." - Ebay chat

    • +9

      Hey ebay: kiss my APP5OFF

    • +4

Yet eBay continue to use Ozbargain as a platform to advertise their promotions 🤔

      • With CR as their main advertiser?

        • +1

time to ban eBay - get your pitchforks warriors!

        • A real shame shopcred.com.au is down now.

  • +2

I didn't receive an email but opened the app and the code was there..

  • +2

I actually committed to buy something and didn't work upon check out

    • If anything, you can message the seller to cancel your order without paying anything

    • +1

You can add an item to your cart and then test the promo codes before committing to an actual purchase. Saves mucking around waiting for cancellations.

  • +1

Got this on my 2nd account thanks TA. Main didn't get it but I did spend tons over the long weekend so to be expected.

  • +1

Just got hit with the it's targeted on live chat :(

    • Same

  • No luck on live chat either.

  • Working, but can't use it on gift cards

    • +1

exclusions are stated under the title in OP's post

  • +1

A fine example and the result of rushing to post a deal.

    • +10

And 378 upvotes for a deal that only a few people can get, classic Ozbargain.

      • +8

No offence to TA but its not hard for him to get 100+ votes, some people blindly vote as soon as he posts a deal

        • Yeah, that’s kinda my point 😂

    • +36

What exactly was rushed? Every eBay deal I've posted (and there's been plenty) has clearly followed the guidelines of the T&Cs written by eBay and they've always worked as stated. So we got one wrong. Sorry. I'm sure had you found these terms, you too would have posted the deal. And I'm also certain if I didn't post it, someone else would have.

      • +7

I simply don't understand how people can be so ungrateful. I've only been using this site for about a year, and most of the best deals come from you! Thank you so much for all your hard work.

      • +7

        So we got one wrong

We? Is that a "royal" we, or does the "Tightarse" brand refer to more than one individual?

      • +6

And I thought ozbargain was about helping people with deal infos..never knew people cared more about upvotes..so what if it didn't work for me; glad that you posted it and maybe it helped others get $5 off, so thanks for that..cheers

      • You should've known better.

There is no way eBay will hand out free $5 to everyone. They will be targeted 99% of the times.

At least you should have waited until after 10am. You've rushed to be the first.

I stand by my comment and that wasn't the first time you've caught up.

The first is nothing when you have no credibility.

Just keep on neg me people.

Something is definitely wrong with Ozbargain's voting system.

The people voted for a person rather than a deal.

        Its a joke.

        • +6

There is no way eBay will hand out free $5 to everyone.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/432275

Posted 2 hours before start, just like this one. Why didn't you complain then?

        • +1

Because the people voted someone who has known credibility with ebay deals, no one is forced to upvote any deals. Not to mention there still wasn't any details about being targeted in the terms.

    • +3

How can something be rushed if no where in eBay's own T&C's say this promo is targetted. Come on…

  • No joy here.

  • -2

Not working on my two accounts. Targeted.

  • +2

Worked for me and I had no emails etc :)

  • No luck in the end. Spent 20 mins with the Chat rep and in the end he said that he will pass it on to the management team and no voucher for me.

    • did they ask you where you found the offer? mine did and it totally derailed my chances haha

      • Yes, he did and I said "it appeared on my home page along with another offer, which is get $50 off, if you spend over $500". Next thing he said was "let me run some tests" and then said sorry, I am not eligible for the offer and he will pass it on to the management team.

    • +5

he said that he will pass it on to the management team

So in other words, he's not gonna do anything? Nice lol

  • +2

got it on my second account :) thanks

  • Not working here either.

  • +2

Sick of not being targeted. Time to create 10 new accounts for harvesting these deals in the future.

    • Time to create 10 new accounts for harvesting these deals in the future.

Like some kind of Promo Farmer?

      FYI, from the T&Cs

The code is provided to you as an eBay User and the limitations on its usage apply on that basis even though you may have registered a number of different eBay User IDs.

  • -1

Shopback > Cashrewards after yesterdays 10% back and this today…

    • +2

Except it wasn't posted by Cashrewards. I see no rep or third party tags on this.

  • +3

Why are people negging this deal because “it’s doesn’t work” over an hour after it was updated as being targeted?

    • +10

Why don't the positive votes zero out when it becomes targeted?

      • +8

Why don't the positive votes zero out when it becomes targeted?

Why don’t people stop blindly upvoting eBay posts before they go live? This has happened so many times now.

      • +1

        You can revoke your plus

        • +3

          No one ever does

    • +4

Because it's eBay and this is OzBargain.

      • +2

This plus entitlement mentality, if eBay hadn't ever had better promotions before, this wouldn't have got near as many neg votes.

  • Just placed an order and it worked for me with confirmation.

  • +1

looks like bait advertising to me.

  • +3

I didn't get the code but I did a live chat and asked them why and they said "I know that there might have been a confusion with the terms of the code. With that, I'll manually process a $5 voucher for you if you'd like."

Just ordered my screen protector with my manual voucher they provided. Thanks TA!

10min chat for $5 voucher was a decent deal

    • -1

First CS person I chatted with didn't want to help. Second gave me a $10 voucher, so all good!

      • Someone jealous?

  • definitely targeted, i have two accounts, and my secondary ebay account had the code, whilst the primary one didnt.

  • -4

    5 Dollars? What's the point? Even if I paid 5 dollars more I couldn't give a toss.

    • I suppose you wouldn't mind paying me $5? I'll pm you my bank account details.

  • +1

    Thanks for posting, OP 👍

  • +7

I can't believe the sense of entitlement of some members these days, particularly the ones who have never posted a deal. If you're not targeted, then move on!

TA has posted many great deals, whereas you and I have only posted a couple so no need to neg if you are salty over a measly $5.00 coupon.

  • Checked all 11 of my accounts, sadly nothing!

  • +1

Didn't get email. The banner shows up on front page and the code is there when checking out in the app.

  • +1

Worked on 1/3 accounts. Thanks OP

  • +1

Sweet, got $5 off a GeForce RTX 2080ti.

  • Worked for one of my accounts

  • Mehhhhh, never work

  • -7

BZZT! Have a neg. Undisclosed targeted offer.

"Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again."

    • You're negging after the deal was updated to 'Targeted'? That seems a bit, er, negative.

      • +1

        Caching servers gonna cache

        • +1

          lol. gold.

          • @MattyD: Here. Have a fake internet point. ;-p

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Thanks legend. I need those for all sorts of esteem issues ;)

I never deducted fake internet points from your original comment, btw; I know how bereft of hope that leaves many.

              • +2

@MattyD: All good mate. There are more important things in life than give a flying fnargle about + and - mashing by anonymous keyboard warriors on a forum.

    • BZZT! Have a rebuke, 'cause your comment is factually incorrect.

      • Thanks!

  • Did they change the terms and conditions? Specifically the bit about 3 redemptions?

    • Yes.

  • This is a targeted promotion. It doesn't work for me!

  • I also never ever get targeted. Downloaded app for first time today. Code wouldn't work. Got on chat with "carren" who typed the conditions are "never purchased on app or have not purchased on app in last 12 months". Both of which i meet- still no go from her. Comment - "dont worry there will be other promos!" - Ridiculous customer service from them- really creates bad blood

Escalated to supervisor "Chessa" -says its ozbargains fault that incorrect information has been given out.

  • +1

As per the T&Cs of the App5off promotion, it is just for targeted eBay members who have never purchased on the app or haven’t purchased on the app in 12+ months. - ebay chat

    • If that's the case then I should have a couple of targeted accounts.

      • +1

Didn’t work on my other 2 accounts that I never purchased anything

        • Is there a link to the terms and conditions?
edit, just saw it in the main post.
Double edit, nothing about the "it is just for targeted eBay members who have never purchased on the app or haven’t purchased on the app in 12+ months" in there but the word "eligible" pops up a few times.

          • @tryagain: Yeah the chat staff kept on saying ‘eligible’ so no go

  • +10

    Chill out guys it's $5

    • +1

Do you even know what site you're on mate? :P

      • +8

        WhingeBargain?

  • +1

Thanks TA, saw this and just used it for a bike helmet. It didn’t exclude gst , which is fine

    • -6

bike helmet and GST? that means it's from overseas, good one. enjoy your fine in the mail for using it

      • Really? It’s illegal for using a bike helmet made/purchased overseas.
Can I ask who polices bike helmets? Genuine question and no I didn’t beg you! I’ll even give you a + to show

        • -3

Yes unfortunately it's technically illegal. It's a requirement of the Australian road rules (part 15 according to Wikipedia) to wear an approved helmet, which basically means one that has the Australian standard label on it.

The police enforce the road rules in each state, but I highly doubt a cop would check this unless they were very pedantic. Insurance is another thing to consider (if you were in an accident), but again this is highly hypothetical.

  • No luck.
