  • Any idea how noisy it is? The reviews are hit and miss on amazon.

pay a little more and get the xiaomi air purifier

    • Different tech. This isn't a hepa filter. It's more like an ioniser or plasmawave generator.

So its not an air purifier then

I know this is going to blow your mind but there are other techniques for filtering air instead of pulling air through a filter.

        • purifier, not filter
The xiaomi is not an air purifier in the same vein

  • Thanks! Just bought one. Definitely a big discount

  • The unit should be cleaned at least once per month.
Clean water or compressed air may be passed through the entire filter assemblies.
Using compressed air or a vacuum blow/suck the dust out of the PCO Cell.
The Purification Plate only needs cleaning every 3 months, unless it is used in a harsh environment (Smoking Area, Kitchen, Pet Area). Using a 50/50 mix of warm water and clear ammonia, soak the PURIFICATION PLATE from 1-8 hours. Using a soft-bristle brush, scrub the metal center.
The PCO CELL does wear out and should be replaced yearly to ensure a high level of efficient cleaning.
The PURIFICATION PLATE does not wear out as often and will only need to be replaced every 2-3 years of constant use; earlier if you have a harsh environment.

    Too much work.
Better get xiaomi and plonk in 40 bux new filter once a year.

Different tech. This doesn't filter 2.5. it's more like an ioniser and the cleaning instructions are for high level commercial use.

      • the cleaning instructions are for high level commercial use.

it's from user manual , no mention of "high level commercial use"

Good idea except apparently the Xiaomi doesn't work properly because of some automatic operation, it shuts off after 5 hours or something.

  • I'm no expert but I'm a bit sceptical that an air purifier with dimensions of 165W x 172D x 178H mm can purify a floor area of 150sqm.

    • All it does is release ions that destroy allergens and bring down other particles. It doesn't filter.

From their website: “This product cannot be shipped to California.“

    Why?

In October 2010, the state of California banned the sale of some ozone-generating air purifiers, citing research suggesting that they can emit relatively substantional amounts of the powerful lung irritant. (While you may have heard that the stratosphere’s ozone layer is helpful in shielding the Earth from ultraviolet radiation, it's dangerous at ground level.)

    • Main reason I hesitated to purchase. Plasma wave generators are much better IMHO - they generate both positive and negative ions that cancel each other out. Large dose neg ion generators can damage lung and other cells - that's how they destroy airborne biological material. I have used both plasmawave and standard neg ion/ozone generators and you can tell the difference almost immediately.

  • Wouldn't touch it and I've been using purifiers for about 12 years

  • I did a lot of research and don't get ionisers guys, you don't want ozone in your house. HEPA filter is the way to go.

    • If you want to deal with mouldly, musty or mildewly smells, what would you recommend?
Ozone seems good at dealing with smells like this.
As long as you don't breathe in the ozone.

      • lol

it's not necessarily the ozone that does this, it could be the neg charged ions, which bind with allergens (which are generally +ve charged). Generating -ve ions also generates some ozone. Some machines generate more than others. This one seems to generate a lot of ozone.

Look into plasmawave - it's a combination of negative and positive charged ions - they cancel each other out and destroy bio material in the process.

If you have mouldy musty smells, I would suggest you get rid of the mould or fix the damp that is actually causing the problem rather than try and mask it with ozone, which is poisonous. HEPA filters are capable of filtering 99 percent of particles that are 2 microns or larger, such as pet dander and dust, but you still want to fix the underlying issue.

  • Seems sold out now, maybe available if you visit the stores locally, but not showing as available online…definately a very good deal.

  • Isn’t this the same as saying eating meat will cause cancer? Unless it is scientifically proven these type of air purifiers are bad for you. I just got one and looks like a good deal.

  • Just rang local store in SA, I was advised it is sold out state-wide and not available from central warehouse.

  • No more stock in all VIC stores
