This is actually a better deal for the S10e with the 12% shopback than the Bing Lee deal.
Green and white are also available at this price.

Cashback capped at $50 per transaction. Regular 6% cashback would meet the $50 limit so no difference there.

Edit: excluding GST it's $46.3 cashback with 6%, so you do gain a few bucks with the 12%.

      • Wouldn't it be $50 cashback? I don't think GST is deducted from actual cashback amount but from original price

        • Yeah so at the 12% currently you would get $50 back. At the normal 6% it would be (849/1.1)*0.06 = $46.3

  • which one is better? S9 or the 10E?

    • +1

10e gets my vote. Old Exynos was prone to some battery issues. These were largely ironed out in the new version. Also has ultra-wide lens

      • +5

thanks, I'm currently using the S6 and set my self $850 budget for a new phone. Waiting patiently for a good deal

        • +10

Soo why not the s10e here? It's 849

          • +3

@Skinnerr: The guy's an ozbargainer, needs a "good" deal.

849 when Samsung has steadily dropping the price on the brand new 10e? Might still have a bit more to go.

            • +1

@dyziplen: exactly, will wait for S10e to be sub $750 before buying :D

      • +1

What battery issues? I have s10 with 3150 mah and battery is just not good enough. Is that same problem?

I’d say overall specs 10e is better but the only minor downside of s10e is it has less pixel density.

      • +1

yeh the s10e is lower res than S9, is the quality difference significant from the naked eye?

        • Probably not but if you want to save a few quids maybe s9?

          • @cloudie9: Yeh but I wanna future proof myself. S9 is already a year behind

        • +6

Nope. Lower res can also mean better battery life

        • +1

I believe out of the box the S9 is not running at highest res, it's lowered unless you put it in to the maximum.

        • +1

The s10e is using a newer generation screen so I would expect it to be slightly better than the s9 display. Despite the differences in resolution. Usually there’s improvements to response, colour accuracy and brightness with newer generations.

    • I'm looking at upgrading from my s7 edge, and I would certainty go for the s10e over the s9.
      S10e has bettter
      -Camera
      -battery life
-screen res is slightly lower on the s10e than s9 but wouldn't say its a deal breaker at all.
Hard to see it not worth worth the extra $150

    • +19

But the thing is, the smartphone is more like a companion (as lame as that sounds), you use it more often than you would watch TV.

        • +1

On an S6 still, does fine. Wouldn't waste a dollar on a TV, but reluctant to spend them on phones either even though they're far more useful than a TV.

  • Which one for the oldies , S8 which is $599 or S9 ?

    • +3

Not much in it - they are quite similar. Finger print sensor on the s8 is in a stupid place but if you don't use it it's not an issue. I find the s9 screen has far better sensitivity if you use a glass screen protector and there's a few more software features.

I thought I did OK about a month ago getting the s9 for 759 (price match with office works) so this will come down to around 665 but better if you use Shopback. At the time there was only 5% Cashback with Amazon so it was the same price as the Officeworks price match and I could get the phone on the spot.

    • +2

For the oldies your better off getting them a phone that's a few years old and costs around half the price of the phones in this deal.

    • Galaxy A5.

      • Is this a joke? Both of those phones blow the A5 out of the water for value and the A5 also looks like it's from 2012.

        • Nope. It's perfect for the oldies.

    • +1

If it has to be either of these 2, get the 8. The 9 had battery issues.

      • Thanks ,after deliberating all day you helped me make up my mind bought the S8.

  • +1

Why is the 10e so much cheaper then the others is it that inferior to the 10 and 10s? i know it is smaller and is missing a camera or something?

    • +3

It's missing a telephoto lens (but for most people, the included wide angle lens is more useful). Also, it has 1080p screen (instead of 1440p) and no ultrasonic fingerprint reader - it has the standard fingerprint reader on the side and is actually faster to unlock that way).

If you look at Samsung EPP prices, S10 is about $100 more than S10e.

      • Whats telephoto lens? eli5 plz

        • Zoom lens

        • +3

50mm - captures photos just like what your eyes see normally
Wide Angle: 10mm to 35mm - captures more/wider area than your eyes can see normally
Telephoto: 70mm to 600mm - captures a specific area further away than what your eyes can see normally

However, there is more to telephoto lenses. As a telephoto lens focuses only on a specific area/subject further away, everything surrounding it becomes blurry. When you see those sports photos focusing on one player (and everything else is blurry), that's what a telephoto lens can achieve.

Due to the sensor size of a smartphone, that blur effect is greatly reduced, hence software is used to achieve a similar effect. Another use of telephoto is portrait photography. The blur effect is actually useful for portrait because you eyes will focus on the main subject.

Wide angle lens is preferred because a cheap wide angle lens tends to cost a lot more than a cheap telephoto. Also, it is much easier to capture everything in focus with a wide angle lens. You generally want optical image stablisation on telephoto lenses. That's also why you see sports photographers often carry a big tripod.

I recently bought the S10e, preferring it over the S10 because it's smaller (I'm a guy so I put my phone in my pocket) and doesn't have the infinity edge screen which I find weird.

Also, IMHO telephoto lens is a gimmick. 99% of the time when given a telephoto lens people tend to zoom and take close-in shots just because they can, ruining the context of their shot.

I ruled out the S10+ from the start because of its extra RGB depth camera that makes the hole on the front unnecessarily large.

As an Ozbargainer the only thing I'm very mildly unhappy about is the lack of dual SIM (which makes SIM slutting a real joy). But overall I'm loving the S10e compared to my previous Xperia XZ.

Don't get suckered by the positioning of S10e < S10 < S10+. It's a fantastic phone and good value IMO.

      • I thought there was an Australian S10e dual sim model… Not through this deal obviously, but I thought one does exist? I might need to call Samsung to confirm.

        • You can get AU dual SIM in the S10 and S10+ 512GB models. Not really worth it unless you want that amount of storage anyway.

    • battery life on the 10e is not as good as the 10 and 10s

  • Is the 12% calculated on the final paid price (849) or excluding gst?

    • Excluding GST

      • Don;t forget it's capped at $50 though.

    • It's max $50 cashback so it won't matter either way.

      • Thanks. Forgot that it is capped at $50.

      • oh wut, so it's not $747.12 after 12% cashback? :(

  • +3

The cashback is capped at $50 per transaction, which makes the S10e $799 after shopback rebate.

    So it's not 12% off $849.

    • Yeh I got excited when I thought it was $747.12 after cashback

  • +1

For the Samsung Galaxy S9 $649 after $50 cashback is a great price.

    • +2

I do find the 128GB/new chip/wide lens worth the extra. Each to their own i guess.

      • Sure, for many this will be the case ( don't forget the extra 2GB ram also on the S10e which you will need with future O/S updates etc ).

But for many others the similarly sized S9 ( screen and body, although S10e is bit lighter ), with it's infinity curved screen ( some prefer, some don't, personal thing ), acceptable performance and up to date O/S and still very good cam will be worth a $150 saving.

And for others the S8 for $549 will be even better as there is little difference between S8 & S9 ( especially for those who don't use fingerprint unlock ), and also has recently been upgraded to run Pie & Samsungs latest One UI skin lol.

  • +4

    Wish these were dual Sim

    • seems not alot of places selling dual sim version…it seems local stock only have dual sim on S10 and S10+?

  • +2

Will officeworks price beat work for this?

    • +1

Would be better if you need the phone asap but most OW are out of stock in BNE metro :(

    • +1

Yeah wondering the same thing, might be worth trying to get 5% off through officeworks.

      • +1

Keep in mind the extra Cashback. You would only be getting a price match on the $849, meaning $806.55 at OW.

If you go with the Cashback here, out of pocket is $799 as mentioned above. May only be worth doing price match if you want the phone straight away.

        • Yeah, it can be a way for people who want it urgenly like me. Unfortunately, all shops are closed today and the deal probably won't last till tomorrow :))

          • @Wili060117: Deal still up by most OW stores are closed today :(

  • I bought the s9 and (profanity) up the shopback cashback (had the item in cart before hand)

    • Any chance cancelling that order and re-ordering maybe?

      • +1

haha yeah I cancelled it. Will give it another shot in a moment.

        edit:
ok so im hoping that tracks. I think I did everything correctly. I guess I'll find out in a couple of days.

  • Hopefully Samsung can catch up with Qualcomm in the SoC department and then I can consider an Aussie version of their phones. I'm not a fan of them having such a difference in internals in different markets, most of the reviews are for the Snapdragon version https://www.anandtech.com/show/14072/the-samsung-galaxy-s10p…

    • If you look pass the 10% or so performance difference, won't be any different in a real world scenario imo. I do think they should offer dual sim as standard though.

    • So what version is on sale in Australia ? Snapdragon or Exynos?

(Looks like the Snapdragon is better for the camera).

      • +3

Snapdragon is in USA/LATAM and China according to gsmarena. Have a read of the article, it'll make a serious difference for gaming and photography.

        • Oh … thanks … I will give this a miss. I am in the US soon and pick one up there.

    • +1

Exactly why I no longer buy Samsung. I rather LG, Huawei or Oneplus

    • Nah, we need to be thankful that the Exy exist during 2015-2016.

      • Why?

        • +1

The 808 and 810 was horrible. It was ridiculously inefficient, having terrible battery life and overheat issues. It was so bad that people suspected that it was melting the more fragile components, like LG's connectors that led to bootloop.

820 was ok, but still underperforming. Without Exy around, I don't think there wouldn't be nearly as much pressure for Qualcomm to make the 835 as good as it was.

          • @Wonderfool: Interesting, thanks for the detailed explanation!

  • They mention for the Australian market but don't mention if they're stock that will have a Telco's bloat wear on it. OR if the phone is even unlocked?

    • They don't mention if it's unlocked because it's 2019. There are no carrier locked S10's in Australia.

      • Because it's 2019 makes no sense, I've seen phones still locked to certain Telcos.

        What about the s9 then?

        • Unlocked. It would say it in the listing if it was locked to any network.

          • @IceCreamBandit: Thanks.
I've bought a phone in the past that said it was unlocked but it wasn't.

  • +2

Compared the S9 and s10e at JB on wednesday. Honestly the s10e is a pretty ordinary looking phone to be honest and the s9 is gorgeous. In real world the processor and GPU make little difference. i'd rather save the $150 buy the catch deal at the moment for 12 months pre-paid and have a new phone, 12 months of calls and data paid for and enough for a slab left over.

    • Very true. I also recall reading that they will phase out the S10e just like apple stopped their SE version.

    • I have an S10e and you're right, it's very basic looking, but I'm loving it. I'm liking the flat screen as well. Also glad that it comes stock with a screen protector.

  • Cashrewards is currently 10% with no cap. You'll get more back than the $50 offered through Shopback.

    • 5% for mobiles

      • Ah that's right they just changed that huh…dang.

  • Better get a grey market S10 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855

Amazing battery life and Snapdragon 855 performs much better in benchmark tests as well

    • Might as well not get it. Plenty of other snap dragon 855 or equivalent spec phones

Why the hassle importing one that doesn't work with Samsung pay and no local warranty? Might as well get another brand import something that is not available here for better price?

  • +2

S10e is a small phone for one hand use. It's much smaller than note series

  • +1

Just to note, the S10e has no notification light :/ It's the only thing I don't like about it. So if this is a must for you, then the S9 is the right option.

    • Really? Thats a great tip you shared and appreciate that - that is my main source of seeing if i've got an email/text etc. so glad i bought the S9 because i would have returned the s10e just due to that….

    • Mate I went through such a trip reading your comment, at first I was so sad because I totally would've paid extra for the S10 just to get that notification light, then I read no S10 versions have it because the whole front is a screen so i didn't feel so bad because at least I didn't have a choice.

Finally I found this https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/themes/app-holey… and thought it looked so pretty that I feel better now. Still though good public announcement comment, can't believe I never wondered where they put that LED.

      • +1

This is what I've read Samsung will eventually update. That a ring around the front facing camera will light up.

I have a Samsung A5 for my work phone and couldn't believe it didn't have a notification led, but that's due to it not being the high end model. Fair enough. I bought my first personal samsung phone and what do you know…

I've got the led cover, so I do see notifications, but it's not always on like a standard notification led is.

    • +1

woah, thats a deal breaker for me

      *crosses s10e off my list

  • How much would the S9 be in total with Shopback & TRS in mind?

  • Do you need to have the flyer’s name in the invoice to claim the TRS? I am buying it for someone else, who will be flying soon overseas. Myself not a frequent overseas traveller. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    • yes, i got a claim denied. Can you buy it on the travellers name ?

      • I can, not sure how to do so on the Amazon website, as I believe they will always generate an invoice against my name if I use my account

      • +1

Just now checked the gov website for details. Don’t think the buyer’ name matters that much if it is under $1,000.

  • +4

Ive clicked on this deal for the 10th time. Im getting withdrawel symptoms not buying it. Please just expire already!
