    Nice!!!

thank you, I am trying to cherry pick our best deals and only post them here on Ozbargain

  • Sweet deal, Damn that is good.
And I am kicking myself for getting a single core lappy for my parents at that price last year

    • kicking myself for getting Pavilion G6-1014TU laptop on the weekend for $487 =(

      • you could always try to get your money back? just an idea

      • I was thinking that the Pavilion G6-1014TU is not much inferior compared to the Asus X52F? :)

Both Core i3 (Pavilion looks slightly faster), both 4Gb DDR3 RAM, ASUS has 140 Gb sata HDD space, same 15.6" screen, both with HDMI output… The rest of specs look similar to me.

        • +7

It an HP for crying out loud. If you an get an Asus/toshiba for this price then screw HP failure rates and cheap build quality.
Although this maybe cheaper cuz warranty is only 12 months instead of the normal 2 years global

        • ^^^ I wish there was a way I could '+' that comment some more!

Had yet another friend call for help with a dead HP/Compaq recently; surprise, surprise, turns out to be another common flaw on runout models they're still selling! :o

        • +1

agree. hp and dell are not worth it. im sick of their shitty service and quality

    • I just seem to kick myself all the time in general due to all these missed out bargains :P

      • If you want to hear our bargains first hand, its best to sign up to our deal alerts and or facebook page, everything gets announced there,
I just cherry pick the ones I think are the best. Some maybe more relevant to others.
got to www.mln.com.au from there you can't miss the deal alerts signs.

        • Haha, no these incidents of mine are always months/years after I've already purchased it and see stuff like this which I wish I could've gotten for that price. Thanks anyway though

  • Is the Ram in one DIMM or in both DIMMs?

    • it is 2 X 2GB in total two slots.
I believe some upgrade options are also listed.

  • Does the current promotion - bonus upgrade to 8GB is valid with this one? and the warranty is global? what about the graphics card?

  • +1

Warranty on Asus is global for all notebooks,
    graphics card is onboard
8GB promo is different, it is part of our 4 Day Deals, which run twice a week, every week, from Mon-Thurs and Thurs-Sunday.
details on the current one can be found here.

Its great what you can get for $500 these days.

I guess the current gen i3's are being cleared for ones with a slightly lower power envelope? Regardless, I'm going +ve on this.

Personally, I'm waiting for either a 15.6 1080p or a 13.3" with min 6 hours real world usage and usb3 to pull the trigger on.

    • +4

Full HD screens are in shortage, I dont see this happening at all.
They are very hard to get a hold of in quantity, therefore they will not be overstocked resulting in them never being sold at a loss.
Also world wide demand other than Japan the US and Australia, do not want to pay for Full HD screen in notebooks so they are not produced as much, as they are not produced globally on such a large scale, the price is also a premium on them.
Even the Samsung 9 series which is a new premium 13.3" notebook is still only a HD screen, as globally the amount of people willing to pay for Full HD is not there.
Australia only makes up for around 1% of Computer sales worldwide.
I feel what you are feeling though "Justoreply"

      • Yeah, 1080p is definately not likely.

But I'm only asking for it to become easier to obtain in 15.6 models.
For a 13.3 it's not necessary (but it'd be nicer to have more than 768 vertical resolution, that's very difficult to do real work on)

That said, I've noticed that junk-grade TV's are now mostly 1080p. Hopefully the consumer mindset will change via the marketing of "full hd".

  • +1

doesn't asus laptops normally comes with 24 Months global Warranty?

how many hrs does it last with a 6 Cell Battery?

    • +1

Only G, U and N series come with 24 months,
all X, K and A series come with 12 months

      • -1

Wrong. U31 only comes with 12 months. However at the end it really depends on the models.

        • Yes correct, the U31 comes with 12 months, but the u36 is 2 years.
Anytihng below $1000 usually is 12 months with Asus the U31 is an exception to the U series rule, hence the price is a lot loweer also.

      • 6 Cell Battery = 6 hrs battery life?
does it come with Free Carry Case and Mouse?

        • No 6 cells does not mean 6 hours, 6 cells means its not a small 4 cell battery,
Battery life will vary between 1.5-4 hours.
It is not a ultra portable machine.

Great deal & even better timing. My laptop is in some dirty thief's hands, so I'll buy one of these.

    • lol, maybe invest in a lock or some sort of security for your new one.

      • I suggest prey as basic security software. Helped my friend catch the thief's face and the stuff he had accessed as well as the sites he went to( the retard went onto his facebook :D lmao)

        • I recommend you report this to the service centre, the brand for which your laptop was. You will be surprised, these stolen laptops end up in other peoples hands and sometimes they go faulty and they try to have them repaired under warranty.

        • Great advice. Prey looks good, and got plenty of good reviews. Just what I need … and needed!

  • I'm very close to buying this.

Is this a 'first gen' Core i3??

Also, what is the exact model number for this laptop? And how much does it usually sell for at MLN?

    Thanks

    • Also, what is the exact model number for this laptop?

Sorry, you will not be able to get a pricematch at Officeworks/JB/DSE! :p

    • +3

We previously had this for $699 its RRP is $799, so its around 35% off.
I will try to get the exact model number tommorrow.
I have been told by customers that other stores will not match this price or some of our other prices, for all sorts of reasons.
So just to clear up some of the things you may hear as an excuse from these other stores I will provide some more info.
MLN is an Australian registered company. We are 100% Australian based and owned. We are not based overseas.
We do not sell used or second computers as new, not only would this be silly and bad for business it is also very illegal.
This laptop as all of our products also are, is an Australian model, it has not been compromised in any way or grey or parralel imported, so if another store says otherwise, here is the proof.
      http://www.asus.com.au/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance/X52F/
it is listed on the Asus Australia website also.

MLN does not grey import or parralel import any product whatsover,

I thought I would write this from now just to dispel any myths or legends created about our products and services in the past or the future.

      • Great info. It should be collated into a FAQ of sorts.

  • I wonder what you will offer us next week! :D
    Keep up the awesome bargains!

    • There are Two 4 Day Deals twice a week, and one deal of the week every week, plus a good selection of stuff in the overstock deals section as well.
Maybe a good idea to sign up to the deal alerts. I am limited with how many I can post in a week and I am only picking what I think is best.

  • This looks like a great deal, been looking at laptops lately.

I'm also liking the look of this Lenovo with i5 and 8GB ram during the promo. For an extra $100 after cashback it seems quite good. However, I know that Asus are one of the better brands for quality/reliability, how does Lenovo compare?
    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=380&typeID=

    • On par or better I reckon.
And why not this one: http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=2a…
Pretty the same and 1GB of graphic card more…

      • +1

Took the plunge and ordered :D Although perhaps one of the Lenovos mentioned above may be slightly better bang for buck, I've gone with this one for a few reasons:
        - I'm a desktop man, when I want something with a decent bit of power, I'll probably just get a new tower at home. This will just mainly be for casual web browsing and uni work.
        - Expect to be carrying this around, so I assume the i3 would get a slightly better battery life to the i5.
        - The extra ~$100 I don't actually have accessible before that sale closes LOL (poor uni student :P )

Oh and I read this afterwards from the Asus website that the rep posted above.
        "Intuitive Multi-touch Touchpad

A multitouch touchpad allows you to zoom in or out of pictures, or even scrolling up and down pages with minimal effort."
If it's anywhere close to the Mac touchpads (the only ones I've been able to stand), I'll be very happy.

        +ve for the deal
        +ve for the good rep
and +ve for the helpful ozB posters :)

      http://www.rescuecom.com/2010-2nd-Quarter-Computer-Reliabili…

Although I am doubting the reliability of the survey due to Apple rating

Shows that it is ok but not as good as Asus or Toshiba
Personally I wouldn't get any other brand than Asus or Toshiba, have used a Lenovo only a few times and I didn't really like the screen hinges :(

      • Thanks Spawnpoint,
all of these articles are based on information taken from the actual report I posted a few posts below if you want to see more detail.
Apple is no way near as reliable as people think it is, our service data (we have repair centres in every store) match the report as posted lower.

        • I actually bought my own Asus based on the one you posted but since It was 2009, thinking people would get butthurt on a 2 year old survey, thought I would find some newer ones. Although PCworld one has been done separate to the squaretrade one. The PCworld one was more of a user experience survey(apple fanboi defend) while the squartrade was done based on warranty/repair centre experience.

        • +2

Yes, user experience is something very hard for us to measure as its based on opinions, but I can tell you the reliability of hardware has not changed since this report was published as it matches our own out of warranty service jobs done in store. It matched it back then and it is the same ratio now.
Asus is the only vendor who makes their own equpment one of the last manufacturers amongst a few others.
Toshiba and Samsung also make most of their own parts and bits and pieces for others.
Brands like Apple and HP have all the manufacturing done by third part companies.
for example around 45% of the Ipad 2 is made by Samsung, the remaining 55% is made by other companies like Asus and Toshiba, none of it is made by Apple.
This I beleive is what the main reason for hardware reliabilty being better in these brands.
Lenovo also makes their own equipment and hardware.

No matter what the deal, they are one of the worst to deal with once the order is placed and payment is done, plenty of emails and not one response to order acceptance or when delivery will take place. Just my two bits but this has always been the case.

    • Oops… Already ordered… Hope there won't be any drama.

      • Their order system is fine. She is being dramatic.

    • Web orders are pretty straight forward guys, there are no additional emails,
one email sent when you order,
      one when you confirm payment
      one when accoutns confirm payment
and another when it is sent
total process is 5-14 days, as listed in the title, if your near a store, best to run in.
If you order online, the faster you pay and the better you follow the instructions the sooner you will receive your order. While I admit it could be better, we can only process so many orders at once.

Nothing more or less is promised. If your request is for something to be changed, such as the address or ordered products, it will alwyas be delayed.

If you have a problem with your order, please allow 2-12 hours for a response, we process up to 500 orders per day sometimes. As also posted in this listing please contact your point of purchase to have any issues you may have resolved.

    • -8

yep and ASUS makes rubbish notebooks so not surprising they are running a deal on rubbish laptops rather than on the better quality laptops.

      • +3

        Completely disagree
While this study is getting a little old now, it is still the best independent study based on over 40,000 machines. (see below)
Please read this study to have a better understaning as to which brands are actually really the most reliable, while individual experiences are important, usually only those people who have a bad experience are the most vocal, so these are the ones you hear from. It's not normal for people to go out of their way and say, "wow my laptop works", "or this company did such and such on time", your more likely to hear from and about bad situations.
The norm goes un-reported. People don't talk about about what's supposed to happen, as in most people expect their computer to just work so they don't talk about it when it does.
I think this report is very good, it also most definately reflects our own fault rate at MLN with brands reported to us in store, and this is why we are confident with using it as a reference publically as it matches our own experiences.

      • wow…joined just to say it

        troll

  • +ve for an awesome deal and a great rep

  • Good deal.
HPs are so bad that to remove a bios password from a friend's HP netbook, they have to replace the MB. WTF

  • +4

    Another gr8 deal, MLN.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend your company to anyone wanting to buy a new lappy.
Also has the most active and knowledgeable company rep on OzB.

  • oooooh shiny. I've been looking for a work/university laptop at about this price range. Tempted…

  • Is the screen led or lcd? The asus material on mln indicates its led but everywhere else says otherwise.

  • Great deal. Tempting, even though no independent graphics, and i'm against laptops over 15".

  • does anyone know if this laptop has a webcam

  • Our model has a hard drive that is 100% bigger and 33% more RAM while the processor is 10% different,
    All for the same price.
Plus MLN has 0% credit card surcharge on Visa and Mastercard.
So we could potentially be even less if your not paying by cash.

  • Is it better to spend an extra $50 and get this?
    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=1002
It has a smaller hard drive but looks to have the new gen i3 processor and dedicated graphics??

Would this be a better choice?

    • Same Gen, but it has dedicated graphics, so I think it is better

  • +1, bought one yesterday :)

once you get rid of the asus-mangled version of windows it's quite quick

  • +1

This deal is back by popular demand and available again.

    • Hi MLN,

Very, very tempted by this offer - are there any "special deals" available on upgrading the RAM from 4GB to 8GB?

      • Hi,
yes there is, if you click on the item, on the right hand side are the upgrade options.

  • nevermind

    • I remember it was advertised on their website as 'Deal of The Week', and looking at MLN's post on 9/6 that the deal was back on, i'd say it would have ended in the last couple of days.
