Free 90 Day eBay Plus Trial

6182

It appears that the Free 90 Day Trial of eBay Plus is back. This is not targeted, unlike the previous 6 Month Free Trial.

Easter 2019 Promotion – Free 90-day trial

The terms in this section 8 apply if you sign up for a free trial of eBay Plus for the first time between 8 April 2019 and 30 April 2019 (“90-day trial Offer Period”).

eBay users who have previously cancelled or completed their eBay Plus free trial and are no longer a member of eBay Plus can re-join as a paid member via the link

By signing up for a free trial of eBay Plus during the 90-day trial Offer Period then you agree to be subject to these eBay Plus Terms and Conditions as amended as follows:

All references to “30-day trial” are replaced with the words “90-day trial” throughout.

If you cancel your eBay Plus membership during the 90-day trial period, you will incur no fees or other charges for the membership. You will continue to receive all eBay Plus benefits until 30 days after you initially signed up for eBay Plus, at which time your eBay Plus membership will end.

All other terms in these eBay Plus terms and conditions remain unchanged and applicable.

eBay Plus cops a lot of hate, but I have personally found it very useful. Don’t forget you can disable the automatic payment via PayPal to avoid any future charges.

Please note: This promotion is for accounts that have never before received a free trial of eBay Plus. If you try to sign up using an account that has previously received a free trial, you will most likely be charged the annual fee ($49), as per the terms.

For those that are getting the "Unfortunately this promotional offer isn't available to you" message, try signing out of eBay, then whilst you are signed out, click Activate Offer from the promotional page. It'll ask you to sign in, and after you do, you can specify you payment method for when the trial finishes and then complete the sign up for eBay plus.

Just received this email from eBay too

    Dear Member,

We are contacting you because you recently signed up for a 3-month free trial of eBay Plus as part of our eBay Plus Easter promotion however you had already taken advantage of an eBay Plus free trial prior to this promotion.

As per the eBay Plus Terms & Conditions, the eBay Plus Easter promotion was available only to ebay users who signed up for a free trial of eBay Plus for the first time between 8 April 2019 and 30 April 2019.

As a courtesy we have provided you with a second free trial until yesterday, 30th April 2019, however, in the next 7 days, you will no longer be entitled to receive a free trial of eBay Plus and your ability to access the benefits of the program will cease.
Our customer service team has been made aware that users such as yourself have been given the benefit of the additional free trial period to the end of April. They have also been instructed that no extension to the courtesy free trial period is available.

You can still sign-up for a $49 annual eBay Plus membership.

    • just received this too :(

      • +1

Received the email as well, didn't use it though so I won't miss it.

      • "Second free trial" - it was actually my third.

    • Just got one of those as well

    • +1

I got this too, but my ebay plus account still says it will expire on 8th July? Doesn't bother me that much as ebay plus is useless

      • It will probably be cancelled sometime in the next 7 days

  • +1

Received an email informing of membership until yesterday 30th April 19 and my membership will cease in the next 7 days. I have since cancelled it to prevent being charged.

    • Same email I received but I cannot find the cancel button anywhere =/

      • -Log into ebay in browser.
-Top left click the 'ebayplus' icon
-Under the huge 'eBay Plus membership' there should be 'edit membership'
        -cancel

          • Remove authorisation from paypal in case they decide to charge you anyway.
        • I have no cancel button only "View Invoice" when I click it

    • Same

      • +4

I think if you signed up and cancelled straight away like 99% of everyone, then it'll just expire in 7 days or whatever it is.

I like how the email says, you can still sign up for $49 - conversion rate for this will be interesting to see. What a shit PR exercise, would it have hurt them to let a small proportion of users to have a second 'free' trial

  • +1

Got the same email, oh well not missing out on much since eBay Plus is useless.

    • +4

I'm still a little annoyed that they took away the free thing that I wasn't going to use ;)

  • Thought I was the only one.

Hi Skramit. You are now connected with the eBay Plus team.
    Skramit8:26 AM
    HI eBay
    eBay8:27 AM
Hello. I believe you are contacting about the one-timee that was invoiced, even though you already cancelled the membership, right?
    Skramit8:27 AM
    Yes
    eBay8:28 AM
Thank you for the verification. We are definitely receiving several contacts with the same issue and no worries, this has been reported and will be sorted out soon.
    eBay8:28 AM
Rest assured that this will not be taken against you and you will not be billed for the one-timee fee.
    Skramit8:28 AM
    okay thats good
    eBay8:28 AM
We will definitely sort this out as soon as posssible.
    Skramit8:28 AM
    thanks
    eBay8:29 AM
Indeed, Skramit. I will include your eBay username to the report for affected members.
    eBay8:29 AM
    You are welcome, Skramit.

    • Got the same issue here… Skramit - How did you get to online chat with eBay Plus?

      • +1

Contacted the normal chat and they transferred me to the plus team.

        • +2

          Thanks Skramit

For the benefit of others. I received the cop out message "I just had a look in to your account and it looks like the system has detected that you've previously taken advantage of two free trials when you were only supposed to take advantage of one as per the terms and conditions of eBay Plus. With that being said, the following free trials you had were considered as invalid by the system and is now charging you for those."

          I responded:
"Can you please provide those terms and conditions that clearly state that? And show where those were accessible prior to signing up for the trial?"

          Their response:
"However, given that you are no longer with us, I'll help you out on this by requesting the invoice to be invalidated."

    • +1

Oh, I got the exact same responses as Skramit. I wonder if they've intentionally done this to get the names of those who got the trial twice? Hope my name hasn't been added to some black list. That being said, I don't think I ever made use of eBayPlus at all…

      • I got the $48 invoice from eBay this morning. Instantly jumped on chat, transferred to ebay plus team, my username was added to their list of complainants. They said they'd hope to have it resolved by early next week.
This really stressed me out, I thought I might have had my account compromised.

        • Yep same. I spoke on chat and they will include my name in the list of affected members. It is being worked on by their technical team.
Apparently I will still be charged but will get a refund.

  • a credit has appeared in eBay under Account Summary:

    Latest invoice amount (31-May-19) : AU $
New activity applied to the latest invoice noted above: -AU $48.99
    Credits
    -AU $48.99

  • Ok going to try dot point this as a TL;DR, wanting to see if others are in the same boat…

    • So like many I was able to take up this deal even though I had previously used the trial before. Happy days!

    • It was free for a period of time, until eBay noticed and sent a message/email on 01/05/2019 to advise they'll be removing my Plus privilege as it was an error. Fair enough. This is what they advised…

As a courtesy we have provided you with a second free trial until yesterday, 30th April 2019, however, in the next 7 days, you will no longer be entitled to receive a free trial of eBay Plus and your ability to access the benefits of the program will cease.

    • Even though this notification was received, they never removed the Plus privilege as I was still able to continue to use Plus.

    • Come 06/06/2019 they issued an invoice for $77.99 for charges and fees pertaining to Plus subscription

    • I raise a query through their live chat and they acknowledge it was in error and refund will be provided

    • Refund for $77.99 given on 07/06/2019, so I'm thinking it's a done deal I no longer have Plus privilege and checking the landing page of Plus (https://pages2.ebay.com.au/plus/) it doesn't indicate I have it anymore

    • As at today, I tested out of interest the Plus Weekend code PLUS99 and it still works on my account

Is this the case for anyone else?

I'm a bit reluctant to proceed to use the code as I'm thinking it may trigger another invoice. Thoughts?
