just buy a quilt? much cheaper in the long run

I actually agree. The heat from electric blankets is not comfortable for me at all. It's so artificial and horrible.

I think they should only be used for warming up a cold bed just before you slip into it (like the brass bed-warmers of yore) and not for sleeping with them on. However, the manufacturers clearly had other ideas, for they would not be adding a 12-hour timer otherwise.

Saw some at ALDI with similar pricing last weekend. Saves you the delivery charge if you're interested.

  • EDIT: So much cheaper than the market e.blanket?

    • I think you can find these price any where, except fitted queen - hardly to see one in the market.

Guys, I know we're all bargain hunters here, but an electric blanket is one thing you do NOT want to skimp on. I have a background in electronics and can assure you that a huge number of house fires and deaths are caused by poor quality and malfunctioning blankets. Honestly, it's not worth the risk to buy a cheap blanket such as this IMO.

I agree. Generic electric blanket is a poor idea when you are going to be sleeping on top of something that could electrocute you, burn you or start a fire.

I'm not going to get into the argument about if they are worth it or not, as clearly a lot of people buy and use them.

In relation to safety, there are clear laws/standards in this country, but also some very simple rules to follow including NOT using it while you sleep. And they are a common cause of house fires (so are dryers and smoking in bed), so read and be careful.

I just posted this as I thought it was a pretty good deal. I personally do not use them ^_^

  • electric blankets are for warming your bed before you get in

I love mine but it has 9 heat settings (lit), is fitted and more importantly has a timer of 75 mins (or 12 hours).

once you get used to a warm bed its hard to give it up!

My experience with catch of the day was very poor product..will never ever buy from them..

  • I'd probably steer clear of really cheap electric blankets. I'd only use a fitted one too so there is less movement. I'm going to see how I go not putting one on the bed this year as I am using one of those puffy pillow top mattress overlay things and I don't think that and an electric blanket are really a good or safe combination. Plus I tend to have no self control and end up cooking myself. Ultimately, it's really not healthy.

One word Aldi Aldi Aldi Aldi Aldi!!!!!
Go there, get one and avoid crapoftheday

  • Well, I like my bed super-heated. I turn it on max a few hours before bed so when I get into the bed, my skin sears just a little and the dry sheets get close to burning my back.

Is it healthy? Possibly not. Am I toasty warm and happy? Yes!

I guess the main issue with this deal is the delivery time. I've heard (not personal experience) that COTD can take a while to deliver - this is the sort of thing you'd want at your house ASAP if you live down south!

I bet you also have a steaming shower before that.
Ever wondered why you always look blanched in the evening and toasted in the morning? ;)

      • OMFG! I'm an almond!!!!! :-D

"this is the sort of thing you'd want at your house ASAP if you live down south!"

Nah, I think you will be disappointed with these COTD blankets. For your purposes, I'd recommend a 4-slice, 64-element, 2400W, body-contoured, Teflon coated blanket with a fast-acting control dial for pain-threshold in place of heat settings.

  • I purchased the best ever electric blankets last year at the Sunbeam Factory Outlet in Sydney (110 Botany Rd, Alexandria), - I believe there is also one in Maribyrnong, Melbourne. They were $99 which was less than half price, and have a thick fleecy pile which is so comfortable to sleep on. Sunbeam had quite a few cheaper ones to choose from, but we went for a bit of luxury this time, so you don't feel the wires like you do with cheaper blankets.
