Nice. Cheers
I don't get this, everywhere I look sources say Avengers IW, for example, is shot and 6.5k then remastered to 4k… this website says otherwise though. What's the deal?
CGI movies in 4k is almost non existent, most CGI heavy movies are done in 2k, they do it in 2k because it's very time consuming do to in 4k, I'm no camera expert but I haven't heard of a 6.5k cam but I could be wrong. Watching life of pi and then wonder woman , the difference is definitely there in quality
Edit: life of pi is native 4k
Arri Alexa is 6.5k and of course there are Red and Canon cameras that do 5k and 8k
Most of the Disney movies are upscale unfortunately
What's diff between Blu ray vs 4K?
Pros and cons?
It seemed Blu ray player is required, which I would think is a con point..4K's better quality but as when DVD's arrived, the benefits can vary based on how the film was mastered. Some companies do a very lazy job where they take the old version of the film and basically just resize for the higher resolution and call it a day. A lot of other films were shot at higher resolutions so an go direct to disk at that resolution, or have analogue film which can be rescanned to produce a proper high quality transfer and bypassing the loss of image quality associated with resizing an image. The reason the 2K upscaling is relatively unimpressive is that your home theatre system will do this automatically for films anyway and probably produce reasonable results in the process.
Not to say there may not be some advantages to the 4k version still. You may see better audio quality and the like. Unsure but I think in some cases you'll get HDR etc in there too.
Both BluRay and 4K need a player capable of playing the media so its neither here nor there. Given BluRay players have been around for over 10 years I wouldn't say its a con…they're far more common than UHD players.
Thanks now I'm thinking why discs? Just get digital high res copy played instead :P
@capslock janitor: Basically any digital copy available today via streaming services will be lower quality than the disc counterpart. From what I recall even 4k streams won't match a Bluray copy.
@Smigit: Chuck on a USB stick for "direct input"? :P
Here's a searchable one that applies to Australian releases:

Terrible deal.
Movies that were recently $16.00 (when it was 20% off the 2 for $40) are now $40-$49.
This is the perfect example of price jacking to make a ‘sale’ look enticing.
….someones been keeping tabs on prices….
Good work
Yep I've been keeping an eye on the prices and some have increased dramatically as you said.
It's not on every 4K movie (only stickered stock) as I found out this morning.
Hence the list that comes up when you click the link…
Good deal, if anyone is curious about what's upscaled 4k and what's native 4k there's a site with information on a huge list of movies and which are worth buying in 4k and which to avoid and just purchase the bluray version. Bought wonder woman in 4k and it didn't look like a good 4k movie.

Hope this helps some of you out there
