Same as here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/427657 but a little cheaper.

Why it's better than an Xbox and most other 4k players on the market @ HDR playback ATM.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTw_Toh0PzA (ub820 got the same HDR Optimiser as ub9000).

And it's got Dolby Vision (that works on Sony X1 TVs) and HDR10+.

Xbox one S can be had for $200 and can be used for a lot more than just playing 4k movies.

And apparently they are going to notice a massive difference 😂🙄

    • I've got an xbone s
It doesn't do Dolby vision for 4k Blu rays

      • It currently doesn't do Dolby Vision for Bluray, but supposedly it is coming.
Cant say that about Panasonic DP-UB820 about any "new" features it will get, other than "play disks" LOL!

  • the cheaper Ub420 is also on sale at a few places with the hdr optimiser but dont think it has the dolby vision.

  • But its Panasonic !!

  • Man these are somewhat expensive. But the hardware requirements for ultra HD proper playback is very high..

    • It actually isn't that high. Back in the day it was high because most of them used cpu decoding. But nowadays with hardware (GPU) decoding, it actually doesn't take much processing power to decode UHD. There are plenty of SOC's out there which the sole purpose is to provide better hardware decoding, which means it actually doesn't cost much to decode it.

  • I had a look at that video and he showed some comparisons between HDR on/OFF and… It's a tiny subtle difference. I mean if you're blowing 10k on a TV and money is no object sure it's a tiny bit better but for the average person who values their money this is absolutely a waste of money compared to an Xbox One S which you can often find under $200 which is actually an awesome media box for Netflix, YouTube, and 4K Blueray. At the same price you can get the One X and have an awesome 4K gaming device as well.

    Don't recommend the product personally.

    • Only gripe i have with Xbox One S/X is that they don't allow Plex or Kodi to passthrough HD audio (Atmos, true HD, DTS:X).
I wished Xbox One S/X worked closer with Plex and Kodi to get this functionality.
If they do that, they would easily pull all the Home theatre customers away from Nvidia Shield (overpriced android box).

      • Is there any technical reason it can't? I'm an Xbox insider and I don't use any of those features but I may pass it on as a suggestion, the Xbox team is pretty good with listening to feedback.

        • No technical reason. They just haven't "opened" up that part of the API to other Xbox Apps.
They currently only allow it in Netflix i believe.

          • @lplau: I'll pass on this suggestion in the insider forums, another person has mentioned it to me so hopefully they look at adding it.
