They are saying to buy rechargeable batteries to reduce on costs when using it portably. Buying standard batteries all the time is very expensive.

my current analogue radio does not work as well with rechargeables due to the lower voltages… the volume doesn't get as high…
The current crop of DAB+ radios with rechargeable packs are a rip-off. Fortunately I got my radio a while back.
I power mine from AC normally, but I would like to have it remember settings across power outages. For this I just have to put 4xAA alkalines.
If I wanted to be portable and save money, I could use 4xAA NiMH cells. They could have designed the battery connections to allow charging such cells, but no, they force you to use their overpriced proprietary packs.

Bing Lee had a matchbox sized DAB+ radio for $39.95 (OXX brand) in last week's catalogue. Got mine even cheaper after asking for a deal. I also got one a year ago with a Kaiser Bass brand that cost about $70 from Dick Smith. I don't think Bush is any better in quality than that one so I don't think this is a bargain at all.
