Decent price but it's worth waiting for the new refresh with better cooling and no trackpad issues.

    • Any idea when that would be?

I am typing on a the i7 version.
        no issues whatsoever.

Very happy with the purchase. I dont game on it though

        • Whats your main uses ?

          • @guccigang: daily driver. youtube, browsing, office, email

@winXPHE: You must be seriously loaded. Chucked out $1500 just for general office applications. Even a 3rd gen 2nd hand laptop, around $200 , can handle the work as good as your "matebook". Don't understand how you are VERY HAPPY with it.

@ITveteran: Coming from an "IT Veteran"

I have a life and I don't upgrade my laptops every other year. This was an upgrade after 8 years.

Like I said, very happy with it.

      • Should be available by April so long as no delays

Could you please provide a link/reference?

It's confirmed the new model uses the exact same fan setup (although with a new shark fin fan) and a perforated base plate. Neither of these will produce much better cooling performance. People were hoping for the dual fan setup used in the 13 inch. Best thing to do is undervolt using ThrottleStop, it's very quick and can reduce top temperatures by around 20 degrees (reducing fan intensity at the same time).

New model reportedly still has the trackpad issues as well (although it's a super easy fix).

Much better to buy this deal imo. Even the new MX250 is a tiny upgrade over the MX150.

        Good informed advice.

      • "Although it's a super easy fix" - do you mean for Huawei to fix, or can you DIY fix it?

        Cheers for all your info!

        • +2

          DIY.
There are two options (there should be YouTube videos for both). One is to open the back up and slide a piece of paper underneath the trackpad and secure it, and another more recommended option is to place some folded paper underneath the two clips holding down the trackpad. Should only take 10 minutes and it'll be perfect.
Keep in mind this is only if you notice it anyway, a lot of people think it's fine as is.

Am I correct that the only difference between the i5 and the i7 (for $500) are:

    • .2Ghz CPU
    • 8GB DDR3 Ram
    • 250GB SSD
    • Different GPU (Is there even much improvement?)
    • +3

As for the GPU - yes there is a significant difference of over 100% improvement: https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-MX150-vs-UHD-Graphic…

MX150 in this is the energy efficient variant, so it will not perform as well as some other MX150's equipped in thicker laptops.

I don't recommend spending the extra $500 unless you really, really want the discrete GPU. You're probably better off spending your savings on a Thunderbolt eGPU accessory?

    • +4

Yes the NVIDIA GPU is much better than the stock Intel GPU even though it's the low voltage version of the mx150.

Worth noting that the hard drive is removable and can be replaced as well.

  • Anyone using the i5 and rates it? I would just use it for PowerPoints, emails, browsing, basic photo editing etc. I can get trs in a few weeks which makes it pretty attractive to buy.

  • I just purchased the i7 - can anyone recommend a reasonably proced notebook dock (dongle)? Need ethernet, usb 3 and hdmi

Also, i dont think the australian stock includes the matedock 2 - correct me if im wrong

    • It comes with the Matedock included. No ethernet port on it though.

  • still waiting for Intel's 10nm or 7nm….14 is depressing

  • The price would've been sweetened a bit more if I had any ebay gift cards left… But glad I didn't jump on the previous deal :-)

  • This or x1carbon?

  • Dell XPS 9575 2 in 1 or this?

    • +2

Hey bud, not sure about thr xps but ive jist received my matebook x pro i7. Great build quality, with an exceptional screen. The mx150 runs light games like dota2 at maximum settings around 60fps. The matedock2 is also included which is worth $60-90. My last asus laptop which i bought 5 years ago was around $1200. Ive never spent $2100 on a laptop but i must say its worth it for me

      • Awesome hopefully there is a big sale when the new one comes out

  • When does the new one get released?
