He is saying that the quality of sound is not that great.
The built in speakers are rubbish. Good for podcasts, but that's it. However, they can easily be paired with good speakers via the 3.5mm jack or via Bluetooth. So if you've got an existing sound system that you want to bring "smart" functionality to, these Echos are fantastic.

That's a good deal but I really only needed one.
The best thing about these is you can connect them to "dumb speakers" via the 3.5mm audio jack port, or via bluetooth (if your speakers are bluetooth). It's a pretty easy way to turn a set of decent speakers or spare speakers into "smart speakers". I've got mine paired with a bunch of UE Booms around the house, as well as my studio monitors in the edit suite.
