  • Works out cheaper if you price beat it at Bunnings.

    • How does price beating special order items work? Can you do that in store?

      • +2

Not sure didn’t come up as special order for me. I’ll probably try it today at Bunnings and report back. It’ll have to be in the evening though.

          Cheers mate.

I might go and try to procure this tomorrow morning at my local Bunnings

        • Did you have any luck yesterday?

          • @0FoxGiven: No didn’t get a chance to go yesterday. How many cameras were you looking to get?

            • @nightelves: I went to bunnings today. Total of $525.54 paid due to delivery cost on amazon.

              • @kurichigo: That’s still good value! Thanks for checking man. Did not have time this weekend.

  • Cashback terms..

  • Meh, was available $440 from Good Guys eBay in December.

    • With the cashback redemption and price beat from Bunnings it works out to be $425.

      • Still would have expected less, especially since the 4K version is coming out soon

        • The 4k version is priced at $500 just for a single add on camera. Even with initial prices coming down, the difference in price will likely be enough to not affect Arlo pro 2 prices much.

  • should become cheaper when the 4k versions become available.

  • If you buy this from Amazon you'll need to get a transformer and power adapter as it's the US version.

    • The link points to Amazon Au

      • Yes but it's from Amazon US - read the bit just below where the price is:

        International Product from outside Australia
Ships from and sold by Amazon US.

  • Better read reviews and do not buy

    • I've got a system at home and it works great.

      • so how good are they?

        • +1

          Great apparently.

        • -No need for wire
-Hub act as a high pitch alarm
-Able to retain 7 days video recording without subscription
-Able to view multiple video feed at the same time with the app
-Motion detect captures movement right away without delay

          • @nightelves: Every review says exactly the opposite what you just wrote

          • @nightelves: How long do the batteries last?

            • @Twisty: I’m sitting on 62% after one month and motion detect is activated between 12AM-5AM if that helps.

            • @Twisty: Every situation/setup is different… depends on quality, where you have them setup, how long you record, etc… some setups they might last 3 or 4 weeks, others 3 or 4 months….

              • @sarakoth: Do they alert you when battery is low and is it as easy as taking out and charging ?

                • @Twisty: I have Arlo Pro (not 2) and yes I get an email when camera is down to 15% battery.. then another when it basically runs out… they can charge in place (take camera down and plug USB into the back of it), or you can buy an external charger to take the battery out.. you can also buy spare battery so you can just swap in a new one straight away if you like and then just charge the flat one…

Personally because I have the silcone sleeves it is easier to just take the camera down and plug it in for a couple of hours. So it depends where you mount them and how accessible they are.

                  • @sarakoth: Thanks

Have they got some sort of secure feature to stop someone taking it?

                    • @Twisty: They give you one attachment for outdoor use that screw into the camera and the rest are held together by strong magnets.

                    • @Twisty: Short answer… no… I initially was going to put it up high on the roof but would then need a ldder and get dirty getting on the roof so I ended up just putting under the eaves… as with anything, only a deterrent… then could just walk up and unscrew it themselves (though the vid would be up in the cloud) .. likewise they could come up and spray paint over it, or any of the usual ways to disable a camera I imagine. Same with turning power off would kill the wifi and the internet unless you have them on UPS… so certainly not commercial grade.

I also found RACV sells them for $699 for 2 cameras, but are offering a free camera and free premier plan too

    https://www.racv.com.au/in-your-home/smart-living/smart-home…

Also, best to call them to make sure they have the free camera in Stock.

And while looking at their site, they seem to do Samsung smartthings too if anyone was interested

    • A good deal if you're in a hurry. It's all been cheaper from Wireless 1 though unless you really need that subscription.

      On OzB I saw:
$440 seems to be the sweet spot on OzB for 2 cameras (multiple deals)
      $629 for three cameras (wireless1)
      $799 for four cameras (wireless1)

Vs $699 for 3 cameras from RAC and 1yr recording plan [or $1299 for 5 cameras which is laughable]

In case anyone is interested (especially since this deal seems to weirdly be for US version), the same pack but for Arlo pro is $380 at Ebay with computer alliance code. Cheaper if you bought Ebay gift cards earlier of course.

Note: pro1, not pro2. If you run on battery, there's not much difference though as you probably won't run on max picture quality as it drains faster.

Am I better off going with a unifi camera install on a new build over this?

  • Able to use one outside front door, without making it alarm, but notifying me?

  • Price is up now to $601
