  • Will this give me better speeds than the 500Mbps Foxtel one which only gives me 10Mbps in reality?

    • Yesn't.

    • -1

Gigabit is faster than 500megabit, yes.

Also if per chance you're going from wireless to wired, prepare for a good time.

      • "wireless to wired, prepare for a good time."

As poxy001 said, the mbit rating on these products are unusual, and not related to the speed you actually get. with my 500mbit one I get about 80mbit/s , so if this 1000mbit does twice the speed it'll do 160mbit. Faster speeds are possible on 5ghz wifi.

        • +1

Faster speeds are definitely possible on 5ghz. Source: me as of yesterday.

I bought an Archer T9E for my desktop because my powerline adapter was underperforming, was only managing ~35mbps..

First speed test on the T9E pinged 12ms and 96mbps!

    • +1

Heap of factors affect speed, you'll only know by testing unfortunately..

      • Yeah agreed. These are rated under perfect conditions. So irrespective of the top speed rating you need to look at how well they perform on a noisy line or one with a weak signal. So an old 100M unit might give you 50M but this 1000M might give you the same or lower result.

  • i have an old similar kit like this, the problem is that if i plug the 1st one on the router, and 2nd one on the bedroom it doesnt work, then thanks for google, i found out that my bedroom has different electrical circuit from my router.

i tried it from router to kitchen, it worked, as it has same electrical circuit.

OP can yo confirm if this is item can be used on any outlet even on different electrical circuit?

    thanks

    • No, this will behave the same way as your older similar kit

    • Bdl is correct, gotta match circuits.

However what IS cool is if you share the transformer with your neighbour (you usually do) there is almost always a circuit that will repeat down the street.

Ive successfully made a neighbour network before. Was fun.

      • Depends on the house wiring, if it's a newer distribution board with circuit breakers and an RCD then it will likely not work.

If it's a distribution board with just common busbar and fuses, (like mine), then chances are it will.
Mine work between any circuit in the house, same circuit is fastest, different circuit is a little slower but since I'm only using them for file transfer, (not streaming), that's fine.

Type of equipment on the same circuit can also have an impact, eg. anything with a motor, (fridge, washing machine, etc).

    • It depends how sensitive the receiver is and how powerful the transmitter is. You need to compare the signal to noise ratios in the specifications to see if it has a better chance at working across circuits. Also the modulation type has a large impact on this.

  • My powerline adapters give faster (and more consistent) speeds compared to my 5g wifi currently. In this use case, they are trying to send 100mbps NBN to adjacent rooms. My current powerline kit is a 500mbps iiNet branded one and it gets the full 90+ Mbps that my NBN service provides. However when it was required to carry the signal upstairs to the second floor, wifi was better in that scenario. Likely due to being on a different circuit breaker/how the house is wired. Hope this helps someone

  • So to get my head around this. In my power box Ive got "Lights" "Aircon" "Pool" "Garage" "blank"
If I attach one to a power socket in the office, which I presume is wired on the "blank" & one in the Garage which i presume is on the "Garage" circuit it wont work?

    • It might work but you will not get anywhere near the rated speed.

    • The best way to see if it works is to buy a set from a place with a good returns policy and then test it. If you know they work, then you could always return it to that place of purchase and then shop around for a bargain set via MSY or eBay with their discount codes (:D) or wait 'til a deal pops up on Ozbargain.

I would not say that MSY has a good returns policy for change of mind. :)

    • I'm pretty sure it will work. Just expect a poor experience with speeds/consistency. You may be lucky however

powerline is a great product once you get it working and figure it out. very good price for these. shame officewroks have bugger all stock

    • I got one today. Last one but if it doesn't do the trick is going back.

      • +1

I get between 40mbs and 400mbs internally depending on outlet - no dropout

        • Get 8M. Got around 5M on the 500M unit.

          • @poxy001: are you plugged into wall? plugging into powerboard really slows them down or stops them working altogether.

            use tp link software

            • @petry: Yep. It's ok good enough for hd netflix.

Marion had 2, one with the shrink-wrap removed. That's the one they have left $46.55 later…

      • -1

        Who's Marion?

        • -2

          A distant cousin of Alice.
          She's made.

  • OW Carlton refused price match and claiming it is different product to MSY , PHOTO on MSY website Is the same as OW WEBSITE, but different look to actual product in Store selling for $148 in OW, even spec is the same as MSY.

    • Tell them all the other stores are price matching and that they are guilty of false advertising. Threaten to report them to consumer affairs.

      • +1

end up bought one from MSY, it is exactly the same as the one they sell in OW store for $148.
