and this my friends, is why Australia and mainly NSW, is now a nanny state… comments and views like this.

      • what… as of today ?
Thanks, but I don't think I'm that influential - although yes, maybe I should bring this weapon to the attention of my local MP.

These are an accident waiting to happen.
        1) These are marketed as toys for kids. Sure, they'll use Coke bottles (instead of beer bottles as in the OP under Toys & Kids), and they'll aim them at other kids unless you're naive enough to think they will use practice targets only.
        2) Bottle tops scattered far and wide "over 5 metres" will end up rusting, primed for stepping on and inflicting Tetanus.

We don't need a Nanny State to legislate in place of common sense in this case, but common sense isn't so common - reading through this post.

        • no, no need to say any more, you've already proved my point beyond any doubt…this is just way over the top…

Oh, now I get it, you're trolling! (as no one in there right mind would say anything like this!)

Now this explains why there's so many bottle tops at the park.

Aside from the emergency bottle opener on my key ring I have a Joseph Joseph bottle opener - holds 16 bottle caps.

So you have to empty it twice a day?

  • -4

    These surely should be banned.

    • +2

Won't somebody please think of the children!

      • Thank you

    • +1

yep. once kids buy one of these guns they no longer need age ID to go buy a slab of VBs, slam it back and fling out 24 caps.

    • +2

Why on earth should these be banned?

Don't act like an idiot and it's just a bit of fun. Looking at the video it wouldn't be hard to flick a bottle top further and faster than this thing

      • Shoots over 5 metres - straight into another kids eyeball. Great fun.
You do realise bottletops have multiple sharp edges, all while spinning at speed.

        • 5 metres isn't far and aiming at another kid's eye isn't exactly falling into the "don't act like an idiot" category.

You do realise bottletops have multiple sharp edges, all while spinning at speed.

Multiple edges yes but not exactly sharp. As for speed, come on.

          Can't legislate for stupidity.

@OzBragain: At 5 metres I'd imagine a bottletop would run out of velocity - but at 2-3 metres and heading straight for an eyeball could cause severe damage. Even a lens scratch would be unacceptable.
As for sharp edges, I've cut myself on a twist top many a time.
No, you can't legislate against stupidity, but you can ban them - in fact I'd be surprised if these get through customs and you don't receive a prohibited/confiscation notice instead.

            • @MITM: All comes down to acting responsibly.

As a kid we used to make blow darts made from cactus spikes or sewing needles, sling shots, skewer guns, throwing stars, bow & arrows, smoke bombs from ping pong balls etc. We would use air rifles, BB guns and fireworks. None of my group of friends were severely injured, maimed or killed and I have a theory…it wasn't because all things potentially dangerous were banned but because we were taught how to use these things responsibly. We didn't spend hours in front of screens looking at everyone's narcissistic selfies and videos, we had parents who encouraged us to play outside judging and taking risks. We all got scrapes, bumps, cuts and bruises. Generally the kids at school who ended up in hospital were the ones whose parents kept them wrapped in cotton wool most of the time.

Blow darts, throwing stars, sling shots, bb guns and fireworks are all banned (or heavily restricted) in NSW and kids still manage to hurt themselves…can't stop it champ!

All the nanny state approach achieves is the dumbing down of society.

    • They banned pull ring tabs from cans.

Thanks to the mods for removing my neg. NannyBargain.
Reason for my neg is the Posts combination of:
    A) Posted in Toys & Kids.
    B) It's not for kids and it's not a toy - it's a weapon (look it up)
    C) To be used during the consumption of alcohol (namely beer).

The community revoked your negative vote, not the mods.

Thanks for making that clear. Hope your day got more interesting.

Yes I bought 2 of these.

  • Not the cap gun I had as a kid…

    That one used gunpowder.
