Some of the customer's review in iTunes

    Terrible

I got this expecting it to be a helpful tool for classes but its basically a cheap looking slides show. There are not the detailed drawings of the human body and systems that i expected from grays anatomy. It was a real let down for me and a waist of my money.

    Kind of old timey

Contains nice hand drawn illustrations. However, the supporting text contains many 'tells' that this is an antiquated text. For example:

"[the bladder of the female is said to be more capacious than that of the male, however the opposite is probably true]".

By this I would have to conclude that this is a late 19th century (maybe even original (1858?)) edition, in which a lot of provable assertions were still as yet unproven. Furthermore, the notation text is scanned from the book. While this may look fancy (lovely 'swoopy' letters and all) it needlessly adds to this app's mammoth (500 MB!) size.

Still, the illustrations are generally well made and labeled. It provides a lot of glimpses into the skeletal, circulatory and other systems, as well as early embryological development. So I gave it 2 stars

I won't talk bad about it much since I got it for free, but the information is very out of date. According to this, we have observed mitochondria inside animal cells, but we still don't know their function? Haha, yeah that is some outdated information. And that was just what I found after reading on the first page of embryology.

There seems to be quite a bit of good basic information in it though, still.

Don't they determine how strong the 'force' is with you? :p

        Midichlorians, young Padawan

        • I always get those two confused, no wonder I kept getting weird looks in Human Bioscience classes!

We can excuse Henry Gray though, coz the only "force" they had in his day was a 'colonising force'! ;)

  • Oh man - thought this was the latest edition for free (2008 reprint) - however, looks like an old version from the above comment - still a good find for a bit of fun though :D

  • 496MB that's huge!

    • that's what the nerd said

  • I agree Gray's Anatomy is outdated, so much so that it is now in the public domain for free. I would, however, strongly suggest buying Gray's Anatomy for Students by Drake, Vogl and Mitchell (either app or hard copy). I have found their simple diagrams the best for learning anatomy.

I thought I would point out the difference as people seem to get these two versions confused.

    Just my 2c

    • The 40th edition of Gray's Anatomy (9780443066849) was published in 2008…

Personally I'd take Davidson's (Physiology) + Marieb (Anatomy, but there are many others) plus a Coloring book for actual study.

Gray's, despite the reputation, is rather dated.

    • Netters is great

  • OK so Student version is free (& looks good), Premium version is $5.99??

My son is sitting the UMAT in July and recently bought the book, I expect he will like this. He's also doing German and I think will be interested in the German translation.
