No way that's an official Xiaomi eBay store

I'll buy it in a heartbeat when it is legal to use electric scooter in NSW.

    • +1

Can we do anything to make that happen?

      • +17

        Donate scooters to politicians' children

      • Far out!! Neg vote to my above comment. That was a honest question. Can we do anything to get pollies to allow this.

        • "Soon".

eScooters are currently undergoing a limited trial in Manly and Bondi council areas. If nothing too bad happens, expect to see legalisation in NSW.

I'm more surprised that this deal has been going on so long without the half dozen self righteous negging it already to death because it's illegal to ride on Australian roads blah blah.

  • +1

Banned in almost all states in Australia. Would you risk the fine?

    • -2

Not banned, but classed as a motorbike so need a motorbike license and cannot ride on footpath and such.

      • +2

You'd never get a roadworthy and rego for it.

      • +3

how is this a motorbike is beyond my comprehension,

    • I just saw some people riding these in Sydney the other day, not sure if they are aware of the ban.

      • Honestly I don't think the cops actually care considering these are slower than most bicycles.. I've been really surprised to be in the Sydney CBD and Parramatta seeing people ride these past cops and nothing happened. Didn't even raise a blip with them and I've seen this at least half a dozen times already.

    • More nannies in Australia than in Singapore nowadays as I saw so many of scooters zipping around the footpath

    • only $539 with delivery

I don't think it is a Xiaomi scooter though, only the fitness band is Xiaomi.

      • Errr, yes, it is bullet! cheater seller!

I met a few of the guys from Lime a few weeks back in Melbs. They are pushing hard, working with govt and the head honcho of VicRoads to get them legalised. With 700 scooters sitting in their warehouse, I’d say they’re highly motivated to get this happening asap.

Had a ride on their 300w offering and would definitely buy an e-scooter once legal. Too risky right now as if you get nailed by the Police, it’s treated as an unlicensed vehicle, so $809 fine.

  • In China, it is only $350

    • -3

Flight to China at least $400 + transport + accommodation

Don't quite understand why this gets so many upvotes. For >$600 it is not a deal.

    • $20 cheaper the other week with less upvotes, so I'm confused too.

    • Agree it seems expensive. Imagine the build quality .. I have bought Xiaomi stuff before and the build quality was shocking. Admittedly that was years ago and I haven’t dared to touch a Xiaomi product since.

  • Saw one of these being used in East Melbourne, Vic. Looks really nice.

  • So cool. Would be great for a uni student.

  • Where can one ride it in suburban Sydney? Of course, you can't commute to CBD using this. Looks cool though but not sure if it's worth that money unless you can use it regularly.

  • +1

Hmm…my house is not big enough to use this scooter..so i will pass.

  • I wonder how is LIME - electric scooter sharing going in Sydney ?

  • I am waiting for Aldi to release an 80V scooter using 4 x 20V 4A batteries.

Seems expensive for a Chinese / Chinese electric scooter. What are you going to do when the motor dies or catches fire ? How are going to sell it 2nd hand when you need to ? I have bought Xiaomi stuff before and the build quality was pathetic.

  • Can't wait to use one in ACT. Going to wait a little while to see what rules they come out with. Hopefully something that's common sense. There are plenty of bike paths in CBR and these things go much slower than a bike, so I don't see any issues. The only reason why I don't ride is the sweat and the need to shower and change, with this, that wouldn't be a problem.

Two thumbs up from me, less road congestion for shorter commutes, less pollution, less problems with parking which makes even long car commuters happy. I'd say a 'no brainer' but we know how governments work sometimes…

    • Any timeline of when this will happen? The laws bizarrely only allow for 'segways' at the moment (even though Segway is a brand). And the only criteria that the scooter doesn't fit, is that it's not self balancing, which seems pretty inconsequential.

Despite this, I see so many electric skateboards around (and to a lesser extent, scooters). I saw someone ride past the AFP headquarters on a electric skateboard the other day. The two officers stationed out the front we're watching closely, and looked pretty impressed. Though it only takes one grumpy cop to ruin the fun.

  • Xiaomi really does have everything.

  • I think We need Xiaomi big box tv deal in ozbargain …

  • Do you need to buy a lock for this scooter?

    • Dunno, how trustworthy are the people where you park it?

  • Something to consider about if you've recently purchased this e-scooter. Someone just got done at Bondi with one of these.
