Melbourne to Queenstown, New Zealand from $196 Return on Jetstar @ Skyscanner via @ FlightScout

930

The Jetstar deals keep coming, and I've not seen it below $200 before to Queenstown.

The super cheap ones seem to be in March, but there are also deals in May/August.

I've found them via FlightScout's search page (https://flightscout.co/au/cheap-flights/melbourne-australia-…) but the prices are actually even lower when you click through to skyscanner. Use whatever engine suits you better.

I dunno, experienced sheep know what they're doing, might be better over there.

Also I don't want to know how you know that.

@Xiaomi: You clearly don’t know anything about culture, it’s much more than Bintang t shirts and Singapore slings

I just came back from Mt Everest and without a doubt NZ mountains/glaciers are just as nice if not more impressive

              • @Xiaomi: What is a Singapore sling? Oh my god, what has happened to Aussies?

                • -1

@Wardaddy: Well we're in Australia not Singapore daddy. Secondly, OzBargain are full of non-european Australians, so being familiar with Singapore makes sense for them since their background is the Asian culture anyway.

                  Check any OzBargain meetup photo.

Edit: here is my reference before y'all jump on the racist train for pointing out the primary demograph for this website which is absolutely not racist, but a fact

                  • @Xiaomi: What point are you trying to make?

New Zealand's culture is apparently "vulgar" and a reason why you should "just Google" the sights instead of going there but you don't cite any reasons why.

Did you or someone you know have a bad experience there which has resulted in you writing the whole country off? If so, based on that logic you can probably write off every country in the world. Vulgar people are everywhere.

                    • @Pantagonist: I made this point in an earlier thread that was concluded on my own experience. Go through the thread, you'll see I'm not the only one that agrees the N.Z culture hasn't really changed much from the movie 'Once were Warriors' whilst your there, checkout the statistics of the deportation rate of New Zealanders in Australia due to domestic violence, assaults etc which holds the record as a whole for the country with the highest deportation rate out of AU.

New Zealand have the highest rate of Domestic Violence incidents in the world sitting at 525,000 per year or 288 a day.

New Zealand is beautiful, the scenery is spectacular but the people of N.Z - Especially the men are violent, vicious and have a very bad relationship with abuse, in-fact the statistics due to DV and Violence as a whole speaks for its self.

                      • @Xiaomi: So what you're doing is taking the behaviour of a small slice of the NZ population and judging that the whole country's culture is toxic by extension?

Yes, Australia is deporting more NZ citizens than we used to as a result of us changing our own laws a couple of years ago. Some of the people we're kicking out have never set foot in New Zealand as they've obtained NZ citizenship through ancestry and have moved directly from various Pacific Islands to Australia.

This NYT article goes into more depth about the intricacies of the deportation issue.

I understand that you've been directly affected as a result of the verbal and physical altercations you outlined in that other thread, but my original point still stands.

All cultures have aspects to them which are undesirable, but it's not a reason to avoid travel to countries.

                        • -2

                          @Pantagonist:

So what you're doing is taking the behaviour of a small slice of the NZ population

525,000 incidents of domestic violance per year from a population of 4.47m and you're okay with that statistic?

Do you agree with domestic violance? Do you think it's okay to assault women do you? Absolutely disgusting comment in my opinion you may think it's okay for domestic violence, maybe you come from a culture or religion that thinks this is OK but here in Australia, this is not okay.

1 in 6 deaths in Australia is domestic violance, and you want to publicly state its a small percentage and not really a big issue for the New Zealand culture..

                          How disgusting

                          • @Xiaomi: Calm down and stop creating a straw man argument. Nowhere did I suggest that any amount of domestic violence is acceptable. What I did say was that the presence of domestic violence in a culture is not a reason to avoid visiting a country, otherwise you can pretty much write off the rest of the world.

Even if those stats represent 525,000 separate individuals out of 4.47 million (which I doubt they do), that's still about 12% of the population which is a small slice / minority by any definition.

I think what's more offensive is you trying equate domestic violence and the long term abuse endured by its victims with your experience of being abused at Starbucks and while walking back to your hotel during your visit to New Zealand; as if it's even close to being the same. You were a victim of a completely different crime.

"Once Were Warriors" was an examination of poverty and issues within the Māori population of New Zealand, who make up approximately 15% of the total population of the country. To say that the whole country "hasn't changed" since that film was made in 1994 is an absurd statement, seeing as 85% of the country aren't part of the culture that the film is about and the Māori culture has been dealing with cultural issues for much longer than 24 years.

@Pantagonist: You sound like you support domestic violence. You don't deserve any more attention, how pitiful.

@Xiaomi: Not sure if trolling or serious.

At any rate, it's pretty hard to have a discussion with someone who doesn't read what I write, so I'll take my leave at this point.

                                • -1

@Pantagonist: Where you are here purposely defending domestic violence at a rage of 525,000/year to a 4.45m population you lost my respect. Maybe mention this to your significant other, and see how that conversation goes.

                                  • @Xiaomi: Again, huge comprehension fail on your part. I'm honestly not sure where you get the idea that I'm defending DV in any form. Please feel free to directly quote where I've said that to prove otherwise.

I've explained myself pretty coherently, it's now up to you to glean meaning from what I've written.

huge comprehension fail on your part

Of course it is, the bloke defending DV on such a scale would absolutely place such a title on other people, after all you don't really care about the 525,000 victims? Pathetic.

                                      • @Xiaomi: Yikes. This is getting embarrassing for you now.

Still waiting for you to quote where I said that I approved of DV or made light of the problem. If your next post doesn't contain a quote from me then I'll assume there's no evidence.

                                        • @Pantagonist: Yeah pulling up a country for its disgustingly violent history is embarrassing for anyone like yourself who is chauvinistic and support such a disgraceful act of violence.

                                          How embarrassing

                                          • @Xiaomi: OK, then I assume you'll be renouncing your right to live in Australia and become stateless if residing in a culture or travelling to a country where DV exists means that you tacitly approve of it?

You keep making these assertions about New Zealand having a violent culture but you've avoided acknowledging that there are a number of cultures within New Zealand and some of them have bigger problems with DV than others. One over represented culture in the DV stats makes up 15% of the population but you choose to tar the whole country as having a violent culture.

Doesn't that seem like an erroneous conclusion to draw?

For those going to Queenstown, you must try Fergburger, they have really good burgers but the line up to eat-in can be quite long so best call ahead for takeaway and go down by the lake to eat

    • +2

I took 1 look at the line and went elsewhere. Have heard good things though

      • +1

Yes locals told us to order take away cause of those that

    • +1

100% agree, the line up is big, but insanely worth it.

      • Our hands were covered in incredible burger juice lol, grab loads of napkins!!

    • +1

Best time to go is like 23:00 to 02:00

      • Haha

        • No jokes. Have a light dinner. Go for a few bevies (I recommend yonder bar) and get a burger on the way back to hotel.
          Less of a line

          • @dasher86: I doubt I could have another meal by then but great recommendation

    • I just googled it, it looks pretty average. Is this just a case of people only trying a decent burger place when they go travelling and hence overrated?

I've eaten at dozens of burger joints in my home town then tried 'famous' burger joints other places but nothing really different.

      • The 4.5 star rating from 12000 people put you off? I’ve eaten a lot of burgers, ie pub burgers etc and this is well worth it. But then again taste is subjective.

        • +1

          The giant ques haha

You're right, taste is subjective. I've sometimes enjoyed lower rated restaurants more than higher ones but often the higher rated ones are super popular which I think makes it appear better than what it actually is because people try to only go for 'the best' and don't try anything else…kinda like how my cousin went to the Louvre without ever visiting an art gallery over here.

      • +4

If you try this and find it average, might as well quit burgers, because it must not be your thing.

      • +2

Like the entire South Island in New Zealand, it's a case of people reading it in a guide or blog somewhere and therefore assuming it's true. It's a very good burger, it's not life changing as many people would have you believe (use some common sense - if it was THAT amazing it would have been copied long ago!).

Same reason why several spectacular sights are almost empty on the North Island - everyone repeats the mantra that the South Island is better so most don't even bother looking. A shame really.

        • I've read gone to so many places that people consider life changing and have never failed to underwhelm. I've made lots of random pit stops that ended up being a lot better but that's probably it, high expectations vs nothing haha

    • Then go to the opposite side of the block for cookietime I think it was called

      • Indeed we did

    • +4

I went to devil burger next to nomads and they’re we’re alright. Saw the line at fergburger and didn’t bother.

Also I’d recommend hiring a car and drive to Glenorchy. It’s only an hour and it’s so beautiful.

      • I hear Glenorchy is nice

      • *were. Sorry autocorrect grammatical error

      • We stayed in Glenorchy in a rustic cabin through Airbnb and it was way better and cheaper than staying in Queenstown.

    • -1

I thought it was spelt furburger.

    • +2

Am I the only one who found Fergburger overrated? They are good, but not that good to do that long queue imho.

      • See, I’ve never queued so…

      • I tried it. Worth the queue. That was when I didn't know you could call for a takeaway. Won't wait in the queue any more. Very juicy and fresh burgers.

    • Been there and tried it, its ok from memory… maybe its the fact you have to wait for hours to get anything that by the time you do you just tell yourself its awesome lol

  • Any tips for the best way to make use of these deals from Adelaide (snow season)?

Adding a domestic leg means baggage needs to be paid twice, plus we can't get a too early departing flight from the eastern states, or past 8:30pm for the return (unless adding a stopover).

Maybe an open jaw, via Syd/ Mel to ZQN and out of chc or vice versa…Or via AKL.

Nice place Queenstown. A very relaxed, cheerful culture.
