  • For eg…For one way direct flight, SYD-DPS, the Trip.com price is $250 with no luggage or seat choice and using the $60 voucher. Booking direct with Jetstar the total comes to $270.86. So still a $20 saving. But then probably a bit of a faff adding luggage if required later on, thru the Jetstar website? Or selecting seats so that can sit with friends or family?

    • That is a good example, the unknown variables about seat select etc through Jetstar probably make it not worth the hassle if that is important… each to their own.

In theory you should be able to do this by using the flight reference number in the "manage booking" section of the Jetstar website but no guarantees it will actually work and do note there will be a cost to seat select.

I think you're new to OTA. If you travel often you will know when to buy from the OTA and when to buy directly from the website.

OTA the fares will be slightly cheaper, but the add-ons make it expensive such as luggages (if travel with LCC), meals, insurance, customer services fee, SMS fee, no shown fee, dog fee, cat fee and rhino fee.

Generally speaking, only buy from OTA when you're travelling light (carry-on only) or full services airlines (that included luggages and meals), and FIRM with your travel dates. The rest I will just stick with the website directly.

Good advice. I agree with you. 100%. Not new to OTA however, my husband and I actually lived overseas for 10 years and had to take flights every month or two and have travelled all over the world, in fact done two RTW business class trips on QFF points as well. I was just giving an example, hoping it would help someone.

Definitely have to have your wits about you if wanting to book with OTA…those cat fees and rhino fees and the 19 different useless insurance policies will get cha every time. :)

Possibly some tiny savings to be had if booking two seats separately (and requiring check-in luggage) like for the above example of SYD-DPS, and using the $60 voucher twice, (so a saving of $40)and then logging on via Jetstar and only adding 20kg or 30kgs to one passenger only, and putting that $40 towards the cost of the luggage and/or seat selection. Probs fractionally cheaper than booking 2 passengers direct with Jetstar. Normally I hate supporting these OTA just on principle. They a bit too much like leeches for my taste. :)

The second part of your comment proven you are travel a lot haha.

Two more tips for you that I usually don't buy seats, Just rock up to the airport very early and ask to seat together. Usually granted without a fee. Save that $20 for a beer. Unless the flight is full, you can ask your neighbour to swap later on the flight or log in to select seat on the spot (at the counter).

And how you say adding luggage for each of you. Merge the luggage to one person, buy 40KG and the other person just carry on. Happy Travelling

          • @AnyFurtherDiscount: Haha yeah agreed again. We have probably sat next to each other on a plane and never known it! Haha. Agreed about the luggage…that's why I wrote "only adding 20 or 30kgs to one passenger only". Happy travels to you too. Any trips planned for this year?

            • @HappyPants: Fully booked for 2025, total 16/24 flights left. My manager declined 2 of the trips but thanks Fair Work, I have enough sick leave :)
