Trust it to be not on school holidays.

  • Had the $269 one way from Qantas yesterday - hopefully a few more specials as it's a new route for Qantas.

  • so out of Sydney you have 4 airline choices

    1) Qantas - old Boeing 737, 4 times a week

    2) Virgin - old 737 daily & sometimes in peak season an A330 widebody

    3) Jetstar - old A320 4 times a week

    4) Fiji Airways - up to 3 times a day in new A330 or new B737max. In peak season 2 x A330s a day, with 1st one just after 6am, arriving just after midday.

Surely the Fiji Airways option would win out everytime ? Fiji Airways costs must also be lowest of the all & to maximize your time in Fiji, you could get the early 6am ish flight out of Sydney & 7pm flight out of Fiji back home.

The strange thing is Qantas is competing directly with Fiji Airways. They codeshare on all Fiji Airways flights to Fiji & USA. Qantas owns 46% of Fiji Airways, but wants to sell, but no buyers apparently.

It seems like a play from a spoilt child who didn't get his own way.
