iPhone XR 64GB w/ 100GB Data Per Month | $69 Lease or $84 Owned Per Month (24 Month Contract) @ Optus

90

If you need heavy download GB, then this is a pretty decent deal for the latest iPhone XR 64GB.

Personally I'm not a fan of the leasing and paying $99 to swap every 12 months but it might be attractive for some.

If you do the maths breakdown on the $84/mo option, it's $32.80/mo for the plan of 100GB, plus the $1229 handset ($51.20/mo). $84/mo to own it after 24 months is a decent deal with 100GB.

It's not as cheap as getting a cheaper XR handset from an ebay sale and going on a cheaper plan, but this means the cost is spread over 2 years which is preferable to many than a $1200 upfront cost. There's also not many 100GB plans for around that $32 mark.

Vodafone had $71 with 15gb and 2 months free last December, I didn’t sign up and I don’t know why I waited for Optus to somehow has a similar deal

Was that a 36 month plan though?

  • I think the prices quoted are for the 64GB phone (not 128GB)?

    • What do you mean sorry? I think i said 64GB phone yeah?

      • That was my bad, I put in 128gb because the title was missing a size, but I put the wrong one, fixed it as soon as I saw that comment :)

      Thanks - never knew that!!

    • What about if you’re an Optus customer but adding a new line? E.g. I have one Optus post-paid mobile and I want to move my wife’s Optus pre-paid mobile to post-paid so both wind up on the same account? (To take advantage of data sharing)

    excludes tradeup customers

    • Came here to make the same comment. That's pretty dodgy of Optus to do that. The flexi plans are alluring to those that want the latest and greatest but when they start excluding plans from trade up the shine starts to fade on deals like that.

  • Sorry, off topic, but anyone with an Optus data Sim only can confirm if they can receive calls & SMS on a data Sim only? Don't need to make calls/SMS, just receive. Thanks!

    • Yes I believe so.

data sim won't be able to make or receive any calls, they are programed to be data use only unfortunately.

      • you can send sms from data sim but it’s about 20c per sms …..

I have two of Optus data sim from ipad plans which signed from last year, they cannot received any phone call, but can receive sms by iMessage only between apple devices.

FaceTime audio is fine not issues at all

      • So basically what you're saying is it CAN'T receive sms?

        • no, it cannot, but imessenger is fine. it means between two apple devices are fine.

I have a data only sim in a OG Pixel phone. I just tested this out. I can confirm it can send and receive SMS only but calls to and from do not work. I guess you could use the phone number to register whatsapp / Duo accounts etc. hope this helps.

      • Thanks for testing, appreciate it. My 2nd SIM is in a 4G routeur (dlink DWR922) Currently I forward calls through Optus web interface to my primary number.
I want to downgrade my plan to the $15/3gb plan or the $17 data Sim + Samsung A8.
As I want to being able to receive calls at least, I guess it will be $15/3gb one.

      • it’s 20c to send sms from data only sim , so you wouldn’t want to be replying to anybody …..

it will probably be better off going for the $90 per month (50GB data) with unlimited international calls, plus getting $10 off if you are adding this as a new service on your account. in the end of the day the data is being pooled, potentially you can add this plan as new connection for your family members or staffs to obtain the $10 off monthly and take advantage of the data pool.

  • Does anyone know if buying in Harvey Norman with 10% off you can also get the 10% off as a student? Cheers

    • From what I've read on other posts, you have to do online optus chat after signing up to have student discount applied. Not 100% sure though. Hoping to do something similar myself.

      • If you do please post how it went.

        Thanks!
