  • is this the same as a paypal premier account? been using a premier account for years with my ebay seller account

  • It's different but features are pretty much the same: https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/cps/general…

    • Am i correct in saying that if people set-up this account to get the rebates, the items sold would then be classed by the ATO as taxable since you are presenting yourself as a business instead.

        Not necessarily.

There is more to being a business for tax reasons than having a paypal business account.

        But.
Paypal business account or not, anything you sell on ebay is still part of your taxable income.

        • -1

          No you dont.

        • -1

          Yes you do.

Australia uses an income tax system which means you are taxed on income.

Income is what comes to you.

When you sell on ebay you are receiving income. It does not matter if you only sell 1 item it is still income and therefore taxable as income.

Recently the ATO has been targeting high volume sellers who have not been declaring their ebay income on their tax return.

Ask an accountant or an advisor at your bank, they will tell you the same thing.

Pretty useful summary of what is and isn't assessable income.

I would suggest most casual sellers (e.g. getting rid of your old clothing or furniture) would not be businesses (unless every single piece you sell generates or is aiming to generate profit - pretty much impossible for second hand stuff), regardless of what Paypal account you actually use.

  • Any proof that this is legit?

The URL is paypal-offers.com.au (ie: not paypal.com or paypal.com.au) and whilst the smallprint on the page says

The PayPal service is provided by PayPal Australia Pty Limited (ABN 93 111 195 389)

the website's SSL certificate (which appears to have been legitimately obtained from VeriSign) is registered to

PayPal Pte Ltd, 89 Neil Road, 03-01 Singapore

The PayPal Singapore site has an SSL certificate registed to PayPal Inc. (The USA corporation) but so is the PayPal Australia one.

    • Any proof that this is legit?

      paypal-offers.com.au is legit.

You can have a look at the other deals they have made which have been submitted to ozbargain here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/paypal-offers.com.au

The differenced in SSL certificates would come down to what server each site is hosted on.

    • Not 100% sure, but there have been plenty of Paypal deals coming from this domain name: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/paypal-offers.com.au

EDIT: Beaten by 19 seconds haha

    • Domain Name: paypal-offers.com.au

      It's legit.

  • I am smelling a scam:

To qualify you must between the date you received the advertisement (three months free transaction fee rebate promotion) and the end date set out in the advertisement:

To qualify you must between -

    I must what between where?

    Proceed with caution….

  • -1

To me it looks like a scam site (phishing for emails) that then redirects you to the genuine site to sign up for an account.

  • +1

no its just written in a legal way, 'to qualify you must (blah blah blah), open a paypal business account, (blah blah blah).

    • Yep - when I re read it (without a port in the right hand) it does make sense.

I will still get confirmation from Paypal just to be safe though!

      • I'm pretty sure the deal's legit, the site's been around for ages and seems to be the source for all sorts of PayPal promos (see http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/paypal-offers.com.au)

If you are to verify, I think the phone number will be the quickest: 1800729725/1800PAYPAL. I think depending on the promo code / advertising source the expiry date of the offer changes, which is why the actual Paypal site only says "date set out in the advertisement" rather than the actual date?

  • What about the phone number:

    call 1800 729 7725

Another red flag - I tells ya - I think this one is scammy…

  • We sign up paypal few years ago, been offer $5000 marketing promotion fund, never received any credit/rebate till today.
