Alienware AW3418DW 34" UWQHD IPS Curved 120hz G-Sync Gaming Monitor $1,500.14 Delivered @ Newegg AU

100

My second ever deal post, I have been watching this monitor for a long time and found this deal on Newegg Aus. Although I prefer to buy through Dell Aus, they refused to price match or to even drop the price very much.

Best price from Dell live chat was $1937.40. $1500 was too much for me and the Newegg website is stupid in that it displays the price as $1400 up until the last step, so don't get as excited as I did.

FYI Dell US has it for $999.99USD
And Newegg US has it for 749.99USD

If you are keen on shipping forwarders, that is a possibility but then the warranty is an issue.

Cool story bro, still a deal

Just a quick note to say that Nvidia is releasing new drivers this week that will enable g-sync on freesync monitors, this should open up quite a few cheaper monitor options for nvidia card owners as the g-sync versions are usually more expensive.

    • +2

Not every freesync monitor, there's only a select few right now.

      • +3

You can enable it on any of them you like, the list is just Nvidia approved ones.

Wether the ones that aren't on the list have tiny errors, didn't pay to be on the nice list or explode with Gsync is unknown.

        • Yeah because freesync manufacturers are going to pay to be on a rando list? The listed monitors have been tested and work, so if you buy one that hasn't been tested and you're shit out of luck then.. bl (Y)

          • @Kozhutki: The latest Nvidia conspiracy theory is that Freesync monitor manufacturers paid for 400 monitors to be approved for use by Nvidia and only twelve were certified and that means Freesync is just as good as G-sync.

@Diji1: The point worth noting here is that freesync will be supported on some monitors, but gsync is still fundamentally a "better" technology. Don't think all of a sudden freesync=gsync.

Freesync has a much more limited refresh range. Typically on a 60hz panel it's about 40-60hz. If your fps drops below 40 you'll get distortion. Gsync is at any fps. 1-60fps, no problems.

Would I pay the extra for a full gsync monitor? No chance =p

          • @Kozhutki: They all work. You will just have errors and artefacts with some of the worse panels

    • Now all I need is the name of a 34" UWQHD IPS Curved 120Hz monitor with Freesync (or better) that has good warranty support. tbh, I haven't looked, Suggestions

Dell had it on sale for ~$1400 after cash-back during Christmas/Boxing Day sales.

  • 1 Powerball 😉

  • I'm waiting for the LG 34GK950F-B to be released in Australia.

    • Same, I've talked to the web chat thing on the LG au site and they say between Feb and Apr this year.

    • What's the benefits/advantages of the LG over this alienware and the Acer X34P? I see HDR support, anything else? Are we expecting better image quality from the panel?

      • +1

The LG is Freesync and 1ms at 144hz compared to the Acer at 4ms at 120hz. You're also not paying the G-Sync tax. The equivalent G-Sync version 34GK950G-B costs $200 more.

  • 1440p 240hz monitors are out this year! these might drop even further in price hopefully

  • LG 38GL950G looks good, depending on pricing when released.

    • Most likely, your first new born.

  • Good deal, the last deal was from dell's website during boxing day. am rocking the less popular 1080p version, and like some have said, once you go wide screen you never go back. its really good on games that support this wide.

  • Tiny warning, the 120hz is not guaranteed. They only guarantee it'll hit 100.

My one won't go over 106.

  • +1

    Now $1,399 from Dell eBay

  • Cheers!
