Review from a random youtuber

Looking at replacing some dud LED downlights given to us. The size of our current hole is 90mm so this light might not work as it requires a 3-inches cutout and is 3.5 inches in width. We made sure that when the electrician installed them, that they included power plugs in the roof.

Interested to hear if anyone else has come across these and if they have any thoughts on them, as it seems significantly cheaper than other downlight options out there ($50-$100 AUD).

If you just want smart on/off you could get regular down lights and plug it into a smart power point.
Can't adjust colour or temperature this way though.

    • I'd like to adjust the temperature. My wife prefers lights to be daylight - 4000k and I prefer a much more yellow light - 3,200-3,500k.

I'm confused, do you change the temperature based on who's in what area of the house?

        • It's a dark house, so we'd have daylight temperature lights during the sunlight hours and change them to be a warmer at night

        Sounds like you want these:

Warm and cool white selectable from wall switch. No wifi needed.

        • I have them in Downlights in a set of 4 if one becomes out of sync to drive my nuts to unplug them all and put in again. They are very good as one light

          • @nikey2k27: I thought you just had to leave them off for more than six seconds and they reset to default colour. Same model?

    • There's always the PIXIE BT Dimmer

      • Expensive though if you’ve got a few downlights like I do

        • You can put 350W per switch. You may be able to combine multiple circuits if you have them in the same room, given they can dim.

  • This seems like a really good buy but Im no expert

  • These arent smart like yeelight

  • If you already have a 90mm cutout, I think these are too small. Also they seem to be only 200lm.

  • Do you need a sparky to install them? What if you are just using it to replace an existing down light?

    • If you have power plugs in your ceiling you don’t need a sparky, you can wire them yourself. But you MAY want to get a a sparky if you aren’t confident you won’t burn your house to the ground.

If you are wiring these directly into your mains you need a sparky. Seems like an arbitrary line in the sand… “which side of the power point are you cutting raw 240v power cables” determines if it’s illegal or not.

      • Trouble is these aren’t fitted with the required cable and plug, AFAIK. Also they may not have an Approval Number for use in Australia, so you may be on your own in case of an insurance claim. Low likelihood I know, but…

      • So a hobbyist that knows what they're doing could install a socket plug on each one, plug it into the socket and everything would be legal?

        • I’m not an authority on the matter, just a hobbyist myself, and AFAIK anything on the user side of the power point is open slather.

      • There is no cord attached

    • Yes as there is no power cord connected, so you technically need an electrican to attach, otherwise if you do yourself your liable under doing your own electrical work

  • I'm looking for some wifi downlights also but seem to be very limited for choice. These look to not have enough lms. You would want 400 or 500lm at least.

    • Nue make an inline downlight controller that's compatible with a few different protocols. I'm about to wire some up and connect them straight to my Hue hub.

  • Does price include GST?

  • This one is not as smart as me.

  • Google Home compatible?

    • Maybe under philips hue app

  • These would be illegal in Australia as they have exposed 240v terminals. The terminals would need a secure cover.

    • I would stay awaj because I would doubt they have the Australian tick mark.

      • They are chinese, ofcourse they wont have the australian tick

    • They come with a clip on cover.

  • Am I the only one who saw the picture first and thought this deal was for some kind of bucket?
