    Thanks! Just in time.

Not sure to go for CFLs or these LEDs in covered light fittings.

My LED globes in fittings have been fine.

Even if the life is slightly shortened, the price of LEDs now is so close to CFL it doesn't matter.

…and I can't stand the warm up time of CFL.

    • Yeah, why would you go for a CFL? Is there ANY advantage over LEDs?

  • Price beat at Bunnings.

  • Why would you go for a CFL?

      • Yes. And compact fluorescent lightbulb.

That was supposed to be a reply to phinkydude’s two comments above.

    Dimmable Bayonet/Edison

    Link states:

    Product Details
    - Not Dimmable

    • Yeah, same on the box if you check the pics. And here as well: https://www.lighting.philips.com.au/consumer/choose-a-bulb/s…

    • They’re technically not dimable. I don’t think they’d work on a circuit with a dimmer.

They have three brightness settings that you can cycle through. You just turn on and off quickly to get to the next setting.

I’ve got a few in the house and I’m happy with them.

      • I don’t think they’d work on a circuit with a dimmer.

Their website says they can if you leave dimmer at 100%

      • They have three brightness settings that you can cycle through.

        Aren't they different colour temperatures?

        • That’s what the website says.

I used to have the previous (?) generation of these. Was a pain to use them - always two clicks to get the warm light, with a flash of ugly white light beetween them.

This model seems improved, but I wouldn’t get these unless I really needed that white light. Oh, and the yellowish and yellow are way less powerful, so… yeah, that’s still for bright white LEDs fans.

        • Yeah, the dimmer light mode is more yellow.

They will remember the last setting you used so that’s handy.

  • The switch dimmable seems better value, for the same 806 lumen at a lower wattage (8.5W vs 9.5W), cheaper ($8.50 vs $8.75), and of course, extra switch dimmable feature.

  • I actually prefer warm white to cold white. Would be a nuisance to continually have to switch on and off twice to get warm white.

    • It seems it worked like that with the other/previous model of those. This one is supposed to remember the setting.

Still, yellow is only 10% power of the white.

No go for people who don't like/need white light.

For the model with 3 brightness settings, they are all yellow (warm white).

The 9.5W model "will alternate between warm white (3000K) and cool daylight (6500K)."
Sounds good for a bedroom that doubles as study.
