Exactly same price at DS. Not sure how long for. I know that DS Castle Hill has quite a few, don't know about others. Printer's basically exactly the same as 2140/2142 but with wireless.

Been using the 2040 for years and love it. Been giving me a bit of issues lately with paper getting jammed when printing and thought might be time for an update.

No Airprint support directly but looks like some workarounds exist but needs to be shared via a PC which has to be on I assume - http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-20023976-233.html. Not a showstopper but would've been nice bonus.

    • same here. you might want to change your setting to "thick paper" for 1-2 weeks then change the setting back to normal paper. i used to use random papers that i found lying around, but then i changed to Reflex A4 and it's all good now

I do recommend this printer if it's essentially the same as 2140 (which I have) but with network capability. It's a good price and the quality of printing is accurate and consistent and I haven't had a problem with it in the 2.5 years I've used it.

I picked up a cheap colour laser printer today at Harvey Norman for $220. Fuji Xerox CP105b. Didn't have time to really check if I could get it cheaper anywhere else, as I needed to use it today. Quality is great and resolution is very good for a colour laser (1200 x 2400 dpi). Cartridge prices are typical, about $90 for 1400 pages, but you won't get a lot better price for other colour laser toners for other printers. It's a basic machine though, so if you're looking for speed or network connectivity then go for something else. But if you want something cheap but with great print quality, then this is a winner for sure!

how much the replacement cartridge ink?

  • +1

Hey, I was just wondering, do you guys change the drum in your Brother printers when it runs out.

    • Yes. Although the printer is ridiculously cheap, it's still much cheaper to get a toner cartridge. A 2500 page capacity cartridge is about $75 (+ delivery). I normally buy 3 or more cartridges to save on delivery. Check on Staticice for cartridge prices.

      • +1

he was asking about the drum, not the toner.

    • +2

nope. just throw the printer away.

The drum cost more than the printer itself.
But if you love your printer so much, you can always buy a HL2142 for $54 from officeworks, remove the toner and drum to bring home, and leave the printer in store :P

Where did you get that price for the hl2142? I cant find it on the OW website, is that a price match?

But yea he's right, definately just buy a new printer as opposed to a new drum, and you also may want to look into buying generic toners too.

        • It has been $54 for quite some time.

The HL2142 , 2150, 2170 has been on clearance at officeworks for quite sometime. You just need to find an outlet with stock.

I sure wish Officeworks clearance items were banned from OB. I have never ever been able to successfully purchase an item, without it saying not available after logging in!! Any different experiences please post, or if there is a store with this available at the moment.

    • Try DSE, same price as Office works.

YES! Exactly what happened to me when looking at 'clearance' items on their site. I went into the closest store, they had none in stock, so they stock checked by computer to which store had some in stock. So there was another store which 'had 6 in stock', so I felt assured and drove 12kms or so to that store, when I got there it wasn't on their display shelf, so I asked one of the guys in technology to see if they had any in the back. He said 'All we have is what we have on the shelves', even when I insisted on him checking he just shook his head and said the same phrase 'All we have is what we have on the shelves'. So I asked 'I got another OW to check if your store had any in stock, and I was quoted 6 in quantity, so how come you don't have any?' He replied 'We had this stocktake recently,' then I went further and asked 'And that means?', he replied 'We also have some cases of theft from out store, so the quoted number of stock may not be correct'. So I wasted 2 hours or so chasing an item, with never existed in store at any Officeworks. Seriously, OW should really not even have these so called 'clearance' items advertised on their website since it creates such nuisance!

      • The stock figures are not very accurate, best to call the store in advance and enquire about the quantity.

  • Anyone know if this model works with iOS Airprint?

    • +1

It does not work out of the box but some software can be installed on a pc/mac to achieve the airprint function.
