Refurbished Condition-Grade B
0.5" dents and 3.0" scratches
Condition b…
B grade refers to units that may have dents, chips or scuffs on the body, keyboard may be shiny or worn down and hair line scratches or scuffs on the screen.
I'd imagine you'd up for a new battery pretty quickly too.
Pretty chunky.
Quick search on eBay shows L440 models, refurbished, with 8gb for around the $300 mark so the price is not bad but would want to allow for a new battery @$40 or so plus more ram as 4gb ain't great.
At least the battery is easily replaceable. This is a 2014 model, so expect to do it.
More and more laptops are following the Apple model of sealed and disposable.
Changing a Macbook battery can cost more than this laptop here is selling for.And you can upgrade the RAM!
Heh. I had an old Acer Aspire - for $6 I was able to do a simple CPU upgrade from a wheezy Celeron to a semi decent Core 2 Duo. After putting in a spare small SSD, a new battery, and replacing the broken keyboard, for under $60 I ended up with a decent laptop to give to a friend (single parent, lots of kids, no money) as an extra for her kids. OK, so they wouldn't be able to play Fortnite on it, but it was perfectly fine for word/excel/email/browsing the internet etc.
Also check out the T440(p/s) models which have better specs, more aftermarket parts and are generally more durable. They are around $50 more on eBay but the T series from Lenovo (not the Indian Youtube channel) is their flagship line for mobile computing.
Just make sure the listing says the computer has its BIOS unlocked with no supervisor password because the previous user (or their employer) can still track the device via CompuTrace if it isn't unlocked.
I bought one of these on fb with 8 gigs of ram runs well but it has supervisor password which the guy gave me but for the life of me I canβt work out how to change it. Does anyone know if it is possible?
I'm gonna guess that you're running Windows 10 which is annoying to use when trying to enter the BIOS menu.
When your computer is on, open the 'Settings' app/program and type "advanced startup options" into its search bar. Click on "Change advanced startup options".
Under the 'Advanced setup' heading, click the 'Restart now' button and wait a bit.
When you see the 'Choose an option' menu click on the bottom option 'Turn off your PC'.Turn on your PC again and keep repeatedly pressing the 'Enter' key.
Press Enter again when the 'Startup Interrupt Menu' pops up to pause that frustrating countdown.Press the 'F1' key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility and don't press anything else until the 'Thinkpad Setup' screen pops up.
Once you get to this screen, you'll be greeted with information about your machine like RAM, CPU details, MAC Address, etc. Here, navigate away from the 'Main' tab you're on to the 'Security' tab using your arrow keys.
Press enter on the already highlighted 'Password' option.Press 'Enter' on the already highlighted 'Supervisor' option and enter the Supervisor Password that the guy gave you.
Press 'Enter' and do the same with the next 2 fields, whilst not putting anything in for 'New Password' and 'Confirm New Password'Press the 'Esc' key to get out of this screen then navigate to the 'Restart' tab.
Press 'Enter' on the highlighted 'Exit Saving Changes' option.Select the 'Yes' option in the popup and press 'Enter' which will restart your machine.
My T450 which I got off of eBay luckily didn't have a Supervisor Password which saved me a bit of headache.
I thought part of a refurbish process for a laptop is to replace the battery?
Sometimes a place will say refurbished to 'as new' in which case maybe the battery will be replaced, but this mob just check to make sure the battery 'holds a charge' so it would be a gamble as to how much of a charge that might be. If the laptop is to be used mainly plugged into the wall then it probably doesn't matter, but otherwise best to assume you will have to get a new battery sooner rather than later.
With this price, you can almost get an X1 carbon gen1 or gen2
Rubbish, cheapest Gen1 X1 Carbon I can find on eBay is around ~$350.
He said almost, π
~$350 isn't almost ~$270.
@magic8ballgag: Just like when a salesman says it's only $xxx. Figurative speech. It's still a lot cheaper than what is something costing like $7600 and similar thing costing $10000. In both cases it's ~24% price increase.
The definition of almost is different for different people. For some it is almost the same and getting better stuff, and for some it is almost $100 more, so expensive. Whether something is almost getting better will depend on who you ask.
So you wanted me to be technical. And I was just making it light-hearted π
The definition of almost is different for different people.
They were generally speaking, so whilst it may be almost for them, it's certainly not the case for me, or anyone else. π
@magic8ballgag: π
@magic8ballgag: $350 is just one example for now. From time to time, there have been under $300 refurbished or used deals.
L440 is like rubbish comparing to X1 Carbon with this price difference.@magic8ballgag: T440P currently is on Ebay at $300
It's a good first laptop, if the specs get updated to help (battery, ram). Its very similar to the cheaper chromebooks
screen resolution is not mentioned in the ad. always a good sign
1366 x 768 pixel is standard for laptops for many years. More, and they will tell you :)
I brought a x230 for $170 put in a SSD and it flys. And it has 1920x1080 res and 13inch.
13inch
You mean 12.5"? π
It's ok, guys tend to oversize things anyway…
I'm waiting for some decent laptop deals. So far this year it's been dead quiet!
yeah me too
How much is it normally for this refurb?
