Pioneer SP-FS52-LR Andrew Jones Designed Floor Standing Loudspeaker (Each) $162.98 Delivered @ Newegg

650

Buy a pair of those speakers for $325.98 due to Duty and GST. Cheapest I can find on the market at the moments. Digital Cinema is selling at $664 a pair, and denined to bring it any low as online chat, how rude! lol. Kogan price is $249 single + delivery.

====================================================
Worth to mention, Harvey Norman Woodville SA branch has Klipsch 5.1 Home Theatre with receivers for $1299 on CLEARANCE, with 5.0 Quintet V speakers set with R-100SW Subwoofer, Denon AVR-X250BT, in my opinion is a good deal and way better sound than these Jamo S807 5.1(credit to Being Askhole).

Denon Receiver AVR-X250BT $345
Klipsch 5-Speaker Sound System $1188 without Sub Woofer

  • damn, just bought the Samsung HW-M360 from Binglee.

    • -1

is it good? Pioneer speakers are very good price per performance but they are too big compare to soundbar or above Klipsch system. Trust me, when you listen, those smale Klipsch speakers are very lound and impressive, compare to Jamo S 807 system.

  • Why not put the price per pair in the title? Isn't that normal?

    • +2

it is normal to buy one, you can buy a pair if you want!

      • it is ridiculous when someone asked and I answered accordingly, then a jerk negged without saying anything. such an ass to do that.

      • +3

upvoted you to counter that :)

  • +3

I have a pair of these and they are great for movies as well as music. Will need a sub if you're really keen though. Bought during Kogan special pricing June 2018. Definitely worth the low price.

    • -1

I have those bookshelves, they sound very good, not colorful, just ….straight. They don't have strong bass though. How much did you pay may I ask?

      • +2

The Kogan deal was around this same price for a pair, $300.

        • +5

and you didn't post it?? Mate! give back your ozbargain badge

          • +3

@ntt: We wants it. We needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little Hobbitses. Wicked. Tricksy. False.

          • +1

@ntt: Ummm, it was part of this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/387377 $349 at the time reduced by 10% (now $399 on the website).

I didn't know if they were any good. But I suppose I could have posted it anyway - badge is in the post :(

  • Bought these a couple of years ago from eBay. Great speakers for the price. Make sure going for enough room for them though. They are quite tall.

  • how would these compare to a set of krix apex speakers 2nd hand?

    • pretty identical I would say, I'm not an expert. But this subwoofer is R-S100w (look at the photo I uploaded)

  • Pity the center channel speaker is out of stock, cost $200 in Australia.

    • it was available before I posted this. Ozbargained

      • Very strange tried again using a different browser and they came up in stock again. First one was not available to Australia shipped by Newegg, 2nd one shipped by Beach Audio available.

Picked up the 2 floor standing, sub and center for $709 delivered.

        Dont forget 1% cash rewards.

Now just need a receiver, any reccommendations?

  • Would those subs work ok on Australian power points or would I need a converter?

    • +1

Look at the same sub on bhphotovideo, it would be 120 V / 60Hz so would definitely need a converter…

      • well, make sure you ask the seller before click buy.

      • Oops already bought, what converter would i need?

        • +3

You will need a step down transformer, it's huge, unsightly and not cheap. Personally I wouldn't bother, better cancel your order.

      • Thought so, cheers.

  • +1

Why have you got the Klipsch marked at without Sub? The ad includes a sub doesnt it?

Anyone have experience with these Klipsch sat speakers. Need to replace the old Yamaha speakers i got with the basic pack i got from HN 3-4 years ago. I want something small for the wife factor but need some decent audio. These Klipsch seem like they would fit the bill.

    • -1

I think I got you confused. The uploaded photos which showed CLEARANCE 5.1 + Receiver for $1299. I just wanted to show everyone identical products selling on HN website so everyone get an idea how they look like.

And trust me, those speakers blow you or any "basic" home system any day! Even the Jamo S807 is nothing to compare to lol

      • Wow thats a good vote of confidence. What do these Klipsch sets usually rrp at?

      • Have you listened to the Klipsch and the Jamo side-by-side? Just curious

        • I did, hence my opinion. Jamo like cheap speakers when next to these Klipsch. If the price around 700-800 I'd jump into without thinking.

  • Can these be used on their own without the need for a full 5.1 setup? I have a 10 year old Sony Muteki receiver with a powered sub.

Also does the quality/thickness of cables determine the quality of sound?

    • +1

No reason why you can't run these as stereo off your amp.

Get the right gauge cable for the speakers / how long the cable is. 16 gauge should be right for them, do a bit of research if you want specific answers, but otherwise that will do you :)

      Edit:
Bunnings have 30 metres of cable at following prices:
      14 gauge $40
      16 gauge $26
      18 gauge $14

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/studio-acoustic-30m-16ga-speaker…

      • +1

thanks! the 16GA cables definitely look better than the ones that came with the Muteki. Will give them a go!

        • +1

Honestly likely be right with the 18 too, if you wanna save a few more dollars (we're on ozb Afterall)

    • Also does the quality/thickness of cables determine the quality of sound?

Unless you're doing +10 metre runs, no.

  • What's a cheap amp that can run these?

  • +3

What am I doing wrong, total comes out to $325.98 (2 x $139 + $47.98 duty/tax). It does initially say $305.80 but when I go to check out the duty/tax jumps from $27.80 to $47.98.

    • Same for me.

      • +1

        me too

      • +1

thanks for pointing it out, fixed

  • How is it possible to ship a 15kg speaker from the US for these prices? And by Airmail!

    • +1

that's nothing until you try to send them back for repair!

  • Tried to order but order was cancelled. Looks like only a single speaker is left :(

    • Yep, only 1 left in stock.

    • maybe some guy bought 1 to piss off this guy

  • Kef Q150 or this?

    • Kef Q150

KEF and their bookshelf is more expensive than this.

I am very happy with my Infinity Reference 162 bookshelf

    • Kef by daylight.

  • Nice price but reading the 3 stars review from Amazon is consistent with poor bass which can improve with a subwoofer, but more worryingly poor sound-stage which makes music boring.

    • And subs aren’t cheap

  • +3

I think I bought these in a car park on a Thursday night from a white van and with ATM cash. Well they look similar anyway.

    • And you didn't have to pay GST which is a win-win. Now you're happy because you are a wise man.

  • Pretty cheap deal for a pair of towers.

I bought a pair of ELAC bookshelf speakers last year and they absolutely SPANK!

  • I was going to buy these a few years ago due to their excellent reviews. Ended up getting second hand Dali Zensors - picked up bookshelves, fronts and center all separately through gumtree etc. Ended up with a fantastic system under $800 but I would have jumped on these in a heartbeat at this price. Good luck if you bought them, hope you enjoy!

  • Still waiting on the Andrew Jones active version. Have they come out? I recall he may have shifted to another company

Edit: find us a bargain on these ELAC Argo F51 floor standers designed by him https://darko.audio/2018/05/andrew-the-argo-nauts-elac-munic…

    Is this better than accusound

    • eh? why did i get negged?

      • Because accusound are something of a meme speaker. Somebody probably thought you were trolling, accusound is bad… Like fell off the back of truck bad.

        • people in whirlpool seem to like it for its value. i thought this is being ozbargain, value is king

          • @OzFrugie:

i thought this is being ozbargain, value is king

They have closed down, I have their 5.1 set. It is OK for movie, music I can only said OK. I love my infinity 165 with Hi-Res music, it is a lot better than accusound for Hi-Res music.

            https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2534268

            • @superforever: yeah i heard that they close down. i actually have their 5.1 as well.. i think it cost around 600 bucks several years ago, which i though pretty good value.

while i never have other speakers, i think accusound 5.1 is OK as you said. I cannot compare with other speakers as i never own others.
so, im just getting some info what speakers are worth upgrading to..

              • @OzFrugie:

so, im just getting some info what speakers are worth upgrading to..

Speaker is a bit hard, you have to listen to it to feel it, also depends on how much you want to spend?

I mostly use it for Hi-Res Music so my Infinity bookshelf is very good for me.

                https://www.amazon.com.au/Infinity-Reference-Bookshelf-Speak…

                • @superforever: mostly movies (and TV) for me. probably 80/20 (movies vs music) usage.
If I can spend on 5.1 less than 1000 then it's ideal.
                  do you have any suggestions?

                  • @OzFrugie: What's wrong with your existing accusound 5.1? What amp you have at the moment?

                    • @superforever: nothing wrong but i find that the mid speaker bit weak. dialogue can be bit hard to hear, but if i make it louder then when the action scenes come up, it's too loud.
this is although i have made the centre speaker 3dB louder than the rest during calibration.

i know i may only need to change the centre speaker but if i can sell the whole lot and upgrade to a better one which is worth upgrading to, then i'd consider it.

My AV is also a budget one.. Pioneer VSX-524 .. got it on discount back in 2014 jb hifi deal, i think i knew it from ozB also lol

                      • @OzFrugie: Thoughts on using the floor standing also as the middle channel? So essentially buying 3x of the FS52? I read a few people use matching LCR…

                      • +1

                        @OzFrugie:

i have made the centre speaker 3dB louder than the rest during calibration

May be just make it higher or otherwise lower the rest.

If I can spend on 5.1 less than 1000 then it's ideal.

You will have to spend more if you really want upgrade otherwise just keep it.

Like KEF speaker? My infinity speaker even it is only bookshelf but still a lot better than my accusound 5.1 floor stand.

                        • @superforever: what would u recommend for my next-step upgrade of 5.1 speakers? how much would that cost?

                          • +1

                            @OzFrugie:

                            next-step upgrade of 5.1 speakers?

I don't play with surround a lot. The only 5.1 I owned is accusound.

I did listen to my friend KEF 5.1 floorstand before it is so much better but they are talking about several thousand dollar just for the front pair. I also heard that ELAC is good but I am not sure.

But if you up to that level you will have to get a very good av receiver and than you will need Hi-Res music player, etc. which I don't think I will spend that much of money.

This Pioneer seems quite good a lot of people recommended but I have never listen to it before and my personal prefer I won't go for Japanese speaker.

If you don't want to pay a lot Infinity is always my favours with that price range it can compare with a lot higher price brand name. You better find somewhere to try it but not many place have display units. I am in Sydney the only place I can try it out is at JB HiFi Hills Super Centre they still have the bookshelf listed for like $600-$700 but I bought it for $2xx.

    back in stock guys :)

    Back in stock

  • So i bought the Jamo kit last wk that was mentinoed above https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/427440 .. but not picked up yet.
The HN that has it waiting for me, also has the Klipsch 5.1 kit linked at top by OP https://www.harveynorman.com.au/klipsch-5-speaker-sound-syst… ("without subwoofer" - i'm still confused by that comment ;)

Anyway, so I'm going to go there on Satday and try to listen to both - see if it changes my opinion of the Jamo purchase.

Now this Andrew Jones Pioneers set comes up… so it's added to the mix (i realise they are not 5.1 comparable, as is)

Anyone have any guidance to help a final decision? Too many options, and I'm nowhere near up to speed on all the features and technicals.

    • At that price range and for watching movies mainly, I think they are all very similar. I felt you are creating unnecessary stress in your decision making. Stay with the Jamo. In general, the smaller the speakers the smaller the sound. You cannot cheat physic.

      • yeah i know i'm complicating my decision process a bit .. just trying to be as informed as I can be, considering what I know and can undertand based on limited experience ;)
        Thanks for your advice!

        • +1

no one bite you if you ask them for a try, and "the smaller speaker the smaller the sound" not all true. Speakers and fragrances cannot rely on someone review, you have to try before decide!

          • @ntt: You have left out "In general". Bigger speaker could displayed more air if you kept everything else the same. Have you seen any small speakers use for large concert :)? It is just not possible to break the law of physic.

            • @Black Hole: mate, I'm not here to argue with you, just trying to be helpful. As I said many many times, it won't cost anyone here anything for just go to a store and try, don't read spec on paper or judge by the look and try to work out like a math nerd. And I am sorry if I hurted some Jamo fans or owners feeling, because I got many negs whenever mention Jamo on post.

    • Let me sum up what I know.
Jamo is smaller than pioneer set and look nicer, but sound very mediocre to me
Klipsch I mentioned is quintet 5 with s100sw sub and Denon receiver on store clearance, you can ask to price match, good luck. You should listen both before you go.
Your link is very confused, it says 5 speakers but shows 5.1 also in description. Harvey at it's best again. Accc triggers lol. Anyway that look like this http://www.klipsch.com.au/products/reference-theater-pack-au
Which is quintet 6, cheaper quality made as I read somewhere

      • Did you remove the photos of your deal? Went to my local HN to listen and was impressed by the klipsch. Was gonna ask them about the bundle you had posted but coming up as image not found now.

        • I didn't remove, it still there.

          • @ntt: Wierd. I couldnt open it on my mobile but yes they are there. Want to see if anyone locally is doing this deal. An extra $100 for the amp is a good deal.

  • +1

    I have bought 4+ a centre speaker. I already have a subwoofer.
I will use 2 for the rear and 2 for the front.

    • what did you buy?

      • +1

        4x Pioneer SP-FS52-LR
        1x Pioneer SP-C22

Thank OP. I can't resist. Worth to test this out.

        • Man, you are really a big fan of big speakers. Are you going to build a house using 4 floor standing speakers or what?

Anyway, you won't regret how those sound. It can beat a lot of $1500 5 set easily.

  • Side note RE: Klipsch 5-Speaker Sound System for $1188 at HN.

There seems to be confusion on whether the Klipsch set includes a subwoofer.
Based on the images and description, there seems to be a subwoofer included:

With a built-in all-digital subwoofer amplifier, this 5-speaker sound system provides optimum power efficiently with precise sound reproduction.

If anyone has purchased this set would like to confirm. I think all the speakers are routed to the amplifier in the sub-woofer.

    EDIT:

The version HN are selling are actually this model:
    http://www.klipsch.com.au/products/reference-theater-pack-au (REFERENCE Theater 5.1 Pack)

Which may have superceded the Quintet 5.1 Speaker pack:
    eg. https://www.videopro.com.au/p-11298-klipsch-quintet-51ch-spe…

One giveaway is the driver colour. Black vs bronze

I think all the speakers are routed to the amplifier in the sub-woofer.

This is not true based on the manual I just saw. This set requires a receiver.

  • Expired.Price has gone up now.

  • Received mine today. Too big to carry in my vehicle so I have to leave this at work today :(
