  • So is this refurbished?

$1795 appears to be the cheapest on Static Ice, but it is brand new. This is refurbished. Is getting a new one worth the extra $500 ?

  • Where do you mention ozbargain for the RAM upgrade? Do you still select it from the drop down?

  • warranty?

Not really a bargain. The higher-end version with the 1080p is a lot more better looking (which also comes in 8GB). Also having the option to customise the notebook would be better (SSD optional?) and if it is refurbished I'd say no deal. The G73JH tend to have a number of BIOS and vBIOS issues which will require updating, also they have an issue with heat when you compare them to the G73JW/SW series. Although the GPU is slightly better, I'd prefer something that doesn't hit 90-100 degrees Celsius on load and by not having to worry about updating the vBIOS/BIOS on the machine.

a number of bios/vbios issues? i had only 1 and took me less than 5 minutes to update. never had any heat problems

      • I agree with the update from ASUS I've never had those issues but I can see someone who isnt "into" computers probably having a problem.
Tho if you were looking at buying this then you probably know what you are doing and would have this stripped of bloatware and updated in no time.

        • i cant see why anyone who isnt into computers would pick this particular model. they would buy something a sales rep tells them to

The resolution has pros and cons, the pro is that it still looks great and that you are going to be able to play far more games at native resolution, gives you a degree of future proofing.
If these are refurbished by ASUS (guessing they would be) then they will have the latest BIOS. I don't know where you are coming from with heat issues, I have never seen a laptop with better cooling than these, there is a huge cooling section at the back and it runs cooler than my wife's dell C2D.

      • I think the heat may also have something to do with what you use the laptop for.
General use, np's…smashing shit up in BC2 for a few hours, it heats up.
But, those massive fans on the back do disperse it quite well.

    1. it WAS one of the worlds fastest gaming laptop.
    2. 1600x900 is PATHETIC for a 17.3"
  • For a laptop aimed at gamers, it's pretty damn ugly!
Nice specs though, If I didn't spend $1400 on my a660 already I'd be tempted, but then again I love my 3D screen. :)

    • The A660 is a great laptop. I loved it when I still had it! (had to return due to a faulty hard drive and bought a HP DV6 which looks nicer but has a terrible keyboard, trackpad and poor quality display - but for (DV6)$700 vs (A660) $1400 I shouldn't really complain.

  • I have a G73JH, plays BC2 np's.
It weighs at least 5kg and is more of a portable desktop than a "laptop" due to its size.
With this as my carry on luggage o/s I dont have much room for anything else :)

  • -3 months warranty
    - supports full HD on big plasma or LCD

firmware has already been upgraded - hence most likely why they were
    refurbed in the first place…

a grade - hence no wear and tear

We sell the New A665 which is the latest model for $1100 for customers paying EFTPOS or cash.
