  • This or a CoolCabanas sunshade? Anyone have any experience with what they prefer?

    • I have a cool cabanas one and it does seem like this one would be more effort with all the pegs and things.

      • Well the shape of the Shadee Moana looks more awkward to use.

I would consider a coolcabanas for our lawn, keeping toddlers in the shade. But height is limited… its shorter than the (presumably) short-as model standing next to it. I mean the low point of the roof, not the apex. Refer pics on manufacturers website. https://coolcabanas.com.au/collections/all/products/coolcaba…

The coolcabanas one looks like an umbrella with legs. Dunno how they patented that idea..

Except it's not actual legs… it's just fabric with sandbags in the end. Bought a similar one from big w last year thinking they were actual legs.
          Returned it soon after opening…

Not sure how they can charge $179 for that. Seems insanely expensive for what's essentially a beach umbrella.

          • @NigelTufnel: That was one thing that put me off them, it's just one pole, it would never stand up to any sort of wind

            • @Dubbin: We purchased the cool cabana - granted it is considerably more expensive - but based on my experience it will work far better in windy beach conditions than these units - assembles in a minute, and also doesn’t block the view of persons behind you. Good luck taking this to a crowded beach (e.g Noosa at Xmas) and setting it up in front of people without those people behind getting pissed off. I think we got our cabana for $149 delivered

@mshanann: I don't understand, people behind you…….?? your beaches are that busy that you have rows of people, everyone doesn't have a front row seat??

Haha only joking, but it is great being in WA, plenty of space on the beaches here, have actually considered the Coleman Event 14's before, knowing it would only annoy people as they would be jealous!

If you want a very easy to put up shelter get this https://www.snowys.com.au/fiesta-sun-shelter-large

Though it is just lycra so no idea how long it would last in the sun before it degrades, plus it's double the price…..

    Thanks, I grabbed one.

    • Yep missing a few things though that are included in this, the mallet, the beach bag, I'm guessing the peg/pole bag won't be there as well and it also doesn't have the zipped pocket on the inside. The quality of this one will be better than the Big W one by a large amount.

Could probably use this as a cheaper car awning for those with roof racks or rails.

  • Has anyone gotten something like this to actually stay on the beach? Or, are we just super-wind charged here in WA?

We have to put them up & then quickly try to find something heavy to plop on the corners. That's if we can get it assembled & not ripped out of our hands as we go- lol.

    • Check the cool cabana YouTube videos

    • That's why I got 2, also in WA, from the look of the pictures these do look strong though, a nice thick webbing all around and ones crossing over the fabric in the middle x3, got some oztent sand pegs though as well as I didn't think the ones supplied would work too well in the sand, could be wrong though.

    • Just bought a slightly more expensive one from Snowy's which is larger and has a heavy cotton fabric. I see these on the beach all the time in South Australia. What impressed me was the fact they stand up great in very strong winds. Sand pegs are a necessity.

  • Thanks grabbed one too!
