[NSW] Large King Prawns $12/kg, Med. Tiger Prawn $11/kg, Small Tiger Prawn $6kg, Oysters Dozen $3.20 @ Woolworths (Double Bay)

650

Hi all, first post so if anything wrong apologies in advance.

Was in Double bay Woolworths today and oysters and cooked prawns were on special. The lady behind the counter said they were clearing as they had purchased excess stock. She said the large king prawns were suitable to freeze at home but the tiger prawns were not as they had been defrosted.

She advised that they had lots of stock in the coolroom and prices as follows:

Large king prawns $12kg - down from $32kg.
Medium tiger prawns $11kg - down from $28kg
Small tiger prawns $6kg - down from $28kg
Oysters $3.20 per dozen - down from $19 dozen

Hope this can help someone out if craving some prawns and oysters and advance happy new year to all.

Link is to the Woolworths original price as appears only available at Double bay store

    Double Bay…double pay!

In this case ~30% pay :)

  • I love oysters, tempted to try my luck and get my local woolies to price match,

    chance of success 0.001%

  • Thanks all for the help with editing the post, have picture of price but don't know how to upload

    • Click on My Account on the menu bar. Then, click on files on the menu bar. Then, click on Upload New File. Here you go.

  • Should still smell ok this far out from xmas.

If they had lots in the coolroom you may be able to ask for a whole 5kg box of the stock that comes frozen (on the price tag it says fresh/frozen). Some products that do come frozen are possible to separate into smaller slabs while still frozen (so don't expect exact quantities) but the prawns are generally not in that category as they are pointy and difficult, with the red ones being the most pointy and source of stabs requiring bandaids - former deli chick

    • How old are they? As in, when have they been caught.

  • Man I'd buy 10 dozen oysters and cook up a savage batch of Kilpatrick. Love that shit. Too bad I'm Queensland, but i might ring around

  • Holy molly!!! epic deal. Its like the day before x-mas I went to coles and got salmon for $9 per kilo… too little seafood on mainland

    • Which is weird considering the mainland is practically surrounded by ocean

      • There's a lot of mainland a long way from the ocean though.

    • just curious, what time did coles have the discount on salmon?

  • She said the large king prawns were suitable to freeze at home but the tiger prawns were not as they had been defrosted.

As long as the king prawns have been kept refrigerated they can be frozen again.

The quality might suffer a little however they will still be safe to eat.

    • Still ok to freeze again :) Really depends on the persons tolerance/look of the food at time. I'm for the belief to many ppl throw out good food due to it passing one day over that expiry and so on .

      • Lol those water crystals when it forms ice will make it softer and more mushy, good deal for older generations

      • Passing one day over that expiry I understand as there a chance it could make you sick.

But throwing food out because it's past the best before date is such a waste.

Then there's the sell by date that America has which tells you nothing.

        • Sell by date is the same as our best before date.
Its the date the stores should clear it by to still guarantee the quality is still up to their standard.

Dates are a joke, half the time they're on the pack because it has to have one, not because it needs one.

          • @2024: Sell by and best before are not the same.

Sell-By is aimed retailers, and it informs them of the date by which the product should be sold or removed from shelf life. This does not mean that the product is unsafe to consume after the date. Typically one-third of a product’s shelf-life remains after the sell-by date for the consumer to use at home.

Best before is a suggestion to the consumer on which date the product should be consumed to assure for ideal quality.

  • WHAT???? 3.20 per dozen for oysters????

  • any1 else found other woolies discounted or is it just the snobby area where they can afford to pay full price??

    No offence OP, great deal…!

    • Comes down to how busy the individual store or the stores stock level control and ordering was for the Xmas period.

My local had fresh tiger prawns for $25kg, or a tub for $100.

  • Top Ryde Woolies has cooked med crystal bay at $21.5 per kg. Great deal OP!

    • Yep, had them. Unfortunately wife bought only 1Kg.

  • Curious, how long do oysters keep? Assuming they bought them before Christmas.

    • Staff at the counter said oysters keep till latest tomorrow

All those products are nearly due date. I rang they are all gone. has to eat them right away.
I would not buy it because seafood has to be really fresh.

    • And what happens if theyre not really fresh and just fresh??

  • There aren’t any left, all gone

  • This was a great deal - bought about 6Kgs of tiger prawns and 8 dozen oysters for $100, paid for with Dan Murphys e-gift cards from the Amex deal.

    • Dan Murphy's sell seafood now?
