    Tell em the price son!

    P. S. Price in title

  • How about battery life? I hate carrying camera during holiday and dead in the middle of a day.

Wait.. googling some review and found one dated 4 years ago? Is this very old model?

    • +1

Yes. Up to Mark 6 now.

    • Fairly old, they're up to Mark 6.

      • -2

        2014 model… Should be $300ish.

        Pass….

        • +2

          2014 model… Should be $300ish. Pass…

And yet you up voted the deal? Up vote first, ask questions later?

          • -1

@aja12: Let's focus on the item itself not some up or down thingie

        • +1

I wouldn’t mind some sub $400 Boxing Day deals

        • 2014 model… Should be $300ish.

          What makes you say that?

          • @p1 ama: With high end cameras you are paying for the size of the sensor, not useless features and marketing messages (38 megapixels!!!!!). This is why the cameras have not depreciated dramatically since release. Also because there has been very minor improvements in amateur photographic capabilities in the last 5-6 years imo.

I doubt you will see it much cheaper than this. But we can always hope!

            • +1

@hypie: I agree with you. I used to be a professional photographer. That's why I made the comment.

            • @hypie: The sensors may not have changed but the image signal processors certainly have and that can make a world of difference.

              • @BargainKen: I own the mk i through mk v of this camera.

They have improved over the years but even the mk ii is an exceptional camera and in my opinion the mk ii onwards is suitable as a point and click replacement of an SLR as far as image quality is concerned. The mk i is still great to be honest, but worthwhile feature upgrades in later models.

                • @Mortal Krumpet: I was replying to ChiMot.. sorry for the confusion.

But yeah, I had the m3 and then the m3. I didn't notice much difference in the processing. However the lense made a HUGE difference. I do think the ISO performance was better.

    • battery life is good.
if you don't record too much video, zoom in/out or use flash, the battery can last for many days.

      i had RX100 M1, M3
      and now using M4

      they are very good cameras.

M3 model and upwards is quite good already
(since from M3 model, you can get tiltable LCD & viewfinder)

      if you care for 4K, slow-motion, etc…
then you should go for M4, M5 or M6

but the price difference is high.

      • If you want 4K get the latest. Both the MK4 and MK5 have issues with 4K and overheating.

  • +3

Great little camera, I love mine, but yes this model is 4 years old. They want $1600 for the new Mark 6, there is no way I'd pay that.

You can buy a silicone skin case for these that help protect them from bumps on ebay for about $10, though you can't use the popup viewfinder unless you remove it.

You can charge the camera via USB or a power bank as well, but I do carry a spare.

Typical Sony, charging premium price. They could do that 10 years ago but not now. Sony customer service is crap on my own experience. also they are in trouble in many area of their Business arms (low sales).

      Could be Nokia part 2.

      • -1

There’s so much competition around this price point & a lot that have it over RX100 iii

        Especially at the nearly $600

        • +8

          For example …

        • This camera is about 5-6 years old. It is still considered best in class. So yeah, please provide some examples.

Sony customer service could definitely improve, but the overall quality of their products is significantly better than some of the competition (% of Samsung TV's with light bleed straight out of the box is phenomenal).

For anyone who didn't bother to look at the specs. There is relatively minor improvements as you go past the mark iii. The Mark iv added better video frame rates for slow motion etc. If you are predominantly using it for photos, this is still a fantastic camera.

          • +3

@hypie: Can you count? 2014 model doesn't equate to 5-6 years old.

            • @spiff: Cool released 4 years ago (almost 5). Announced 6 June 2012. afaik the sensor hasn't changed since the m1, I upgraded to the m3 for the Wifi and better lense.

        • There are lots of cameras around $600, but few with the combination of compact size (around 300g) a 1” sensor, a top-quality fast lens, brilliant autofocus and manual controls and RAW capture for the enthusiast.

In fact, you can basically choose from Canon G7x ii, Canon G9x ii (much smaller, but not as good) or the Panasonic TZ110 (slower lens but much longer zoom).

There is no reason it should be priced less than $600 just because it was first released 5 years ago.

All the RX100 models (maybe not mk 2) are still made and sold new, and are priced according to how much people will pay for that little bit of extra utility through each model. (The VI is a different camera with a long-zoom slower lens, so not comparable to the others.)

I still remember this review of the mark 1. https://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/28/technology/personaltech/a…
Each model only went on to build on this great cameras platform. Mark 3 is a great camera in its own right and good value at this price.

    • +2

The MK1 wasn't that good but the MK3 was truly the best.

    • I got the Mark I when the Mark V was out and it's an amazing camera for a point n shoot. I believe there's not much difference between the MK1 and the MK4 except the MK4 was better at night shots and at some point they added wifi to the camera.

  • +1

save thousands on the lens if you just want a reliable compact camera. still no one can beat it at this price against Sony

  • the night-time pictures on the RX100 are fantastic.
that alone is worth the price, but i would say the best price-point is a M4
M3 is a bit older, but it's still a very capable camera
(and has similar features as M4: tiltable LCD, viewfinder, same batteries, etc.)

  • Great camera, BUT this is very old and while its cheaper than retail i wouldn't say it's a good deal. I reckon you can surely beat this price overseas.

    • If you are going overseas you can get your tax back as well. I would be surprised if you can get it much cheaper overseas.

    • B&H Photo prices (Amazon US are similar)

      RX100-VI USD 1198
      RX100-VA USD 898
      RX100-IV USD 798
      RX100-III USD 648
      RX100-II USD 548
      RX100-I USD 368

It’s not a good deal, it’s an amazing deal.

  • Amazing camera!

    https://s-digitalimaging.com/RX/2017/winner-gallery-en/ (some are RX100M3)

Paid $900+ 4 years ago, retained half the value when I sold it for $450 in October.

  • I am just wondering why the deal on this camera has gotten so many upvotes? The last few times this camera has been on sale it did not get anywhere near the same amount of upvotes. For example it was $5 dollars more at Ted's with an extra battery not long ago.

Curious as I am looking to buy a camera in this price range.

RX100 line are amazing, still using the mark 1 from 5 years ago..
