We have four sets of these. Great value.

    • +15

      nice 8.4 setup

    • +6

Yes, amazing quality for the price.

      • +2

Yep, it is good bang per buck. Just don't be deceived by the "THX" tweeter grills, there are no tweeters in these speakers.

    • Disagree. Mine went back in the box. The older 5.1 X-530 and X-540 speakers are louder for everything but the lowest end of the bass and have much nicer mids and highs.

  • +3

Still $95? Weren't these like sub $90 this time last year. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/351543

    • +3

      ikr, lol @ JB

If I didn't have free gift cards from my company, I would probably never buy from JB.

      • +2

        Truth!

      • -1

I would probably never buy from JB.

Don't lie, you'd still buy from them as they have really good deals.

        • +1

Not Really, they have rip off deals, only thing I bought from this at all this year was $10 clearance sale on wireless charger otherwise cameras, phones, TVs, games and dvds are sold way cheaper at eb games, big w, digital camera warehouse, officeworks etc.

        holy shit

      • Wow wth

      • That day will never come again

      • +1

Hahaha that’s the one I posted while ago!

    • +3

Can we neg for misleading post? Because I don't know the last time that I've ever seen:

The product usually goes for $230

On the other hand, at $95, these are good value. I just never use speakers…

      • +1

Most computer shops sell then around $110-129 dont know where $230 came from maybe HN his fav store lol

  • I got mine for $88 at OW sometime ago, defs recommend

  • +15

I don't think they usually go for $230. They're $119 at OW and Bing Lee.

  • +2

Great but the previous model z2300 was the best these are pretty good value. If anyone has Good Guys concierge credit. Would bring down extra $20. Making $75. Even for $95 these are great value. Hook up the Logitech Bluetooth adapter for $39 and u have a great little setup

  • +3

I grabbed one of these earlier when they were at this price point too. Currently using it for gaming / movies. Bass is LOUD. Great value. Only thing I would note is that there is very little in terms of mid-range. But at this price really can't complain!

    • How's the sound quality for music?

      • Good. I play youtube through these

      • +3

Great but mids are a little low imo. Overall you won't find any other speakers with this sound @ that price

        • I boughtthe crearive t5? 2.1 system a few years ago for 79 bucks, and they look nicer and have a remote unit, but the same issue of mids being low. Ok for music but if you are watching action movies it can be hard to hear dialogue

      • +3

Good overall. But I'll have to reiterate, this unit is quite bass heavy. So i find i turn the bass knob down a fair bit and let the tweeters do more of the load for music to get clarity. Mid range is slightly lacking but not a deal breaker. If I leave the bass switch at half way or more the house shakes. Literally. Its actually very impressive. Having said that if your music taste is towards bass heavy genres then you're gonna love these.

        • Awesome, looks like this is just what I need. Thanks gentlemen!

    • Mine are 7 years and still going strong !!

  • Any good speakers under $50? Trying to buy one for my mum..

    • +11

Are you going to keep the other one?

    • These are worth the sub $100 price

  • I believe I saw it for ~ $116 at BingLee yesterday. Didn't realise it was a good deal

  • +6

Power button could become an issue after a few years.

    pretty common i'd say

    • Very common issue. In my case my speakers stopped turning on after 2 years.

      • +7

My solution is not turning them off.
Theyre 4 years old at this point.
The volume knob causes some static-y noises but no signs of dying yet.

        • My gf has these and never turned them off and power and volume both became problems.

We got some contact cleaner and cleaned the button and potentiometer and it's been fine for awhile now. She's even started turning them on and off.

Nice set of speakers for the price. I prefer my Klipsch, but they rarely can be found for $95.

          • @crainger: I really don't see how the power button can become a problem if it's never touched.
            Hopefully I'm lucky.

        • +1

7 years here always leave them on too and yes mine gets the crakcly sound so i adjust volume on my scroll wheel on my keyboard

        • You can fix that crackly noise that the speakers have, rapidly turn the volume knob up and down. I heard it's because of small amounts of dust etc lodged deep in the knob. I've had to do it several times, like once every 9 months sorta thing and it fixes it every time.

    • +1

I didnt know mine i never bother turning mine off

    • +13

Best to use these speakers with a "green" power board, that turns them off automatically when you turn off whatever audio source you are using.

Power usage when turned on, with no audio, is about 8W. Over a year, that's about 70kWh, which is about $18 of electricity at QLD rates (26c/kWh).

So always remember to turn them off when not in use, or get a "green" power board that does it for you.

By "green" power board, I mean something like this, that senses when you turn off the device supplying the audio:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225334
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/eco-solutions-6-way-master-slave…

      • That $18 is pretty expensive

    • was looking for this comment! very common issue it seems, I have a pair in the garage waiting to go to the tip as seems they also have something else busted other than power button :( (found out about power button whilst researching why mine won't turn on haha)

  • Bang for buck speakers and much bigger and better sound than speakers twice the price…My only gripe though is no optical out or Bluetooth, otherwise could had hook'em up with my TV.

    • +2

I purchased one of those optical to analogue converters from eBAY was < $5, gets USB power from the TV. Did the trick for me.

  • +5

    $230? Lol no it doesn't.

  • +3

I've been using these for years with my TV for movies and gaming. Lots of bass, but it lacks that mid range clarity. Difficult to watch movies without having to continuously adjust the volume between dialogue scenes and action scenes. I still can't decide whether to upgrade to the YAS-108.

    • YAS-108B is awesome. Not as loud obviously but super clear and crisp for tv/movies.

    • +2

Thats not the speakers fault, they balance movie audio for cinema rooms and speakers. And they often (profanity) that up too

  • These newer sets, the bass doesn't drop as much as the old skool versons ie Z2300.

    • Probably better for the neighbours though

      • My Neighbours love my music!

  • +2

The cable between them is very short, just in case you are thinking of putting them far apart (eg. both side of TV).

    • Get an single rca extender adaptor then ??

  • +1

for a certain amount of time, but we don't know how long, so how is it certain. English is weird.

    • You're not wrong. It's full of inconsistencies, like:

Main ingredient of a fishburger is fish.
Main ingredient of a chicken burger is chicken.
But the main ingredient of a hamburger isn't ham, and main ingredient of a cheeseburger definitely isn't cheese.

  • +1

I have this. However my main gripe is the power button. Its become faulty, i have to press the button a few times to turn it on. Then it'll work intermittently. Anyone else had the same issue

    • common issue apparently, but I've had mine for 3 years and no such issues. I rarely use the power button though.

    • Just leave it on

  • +1

Awesome speakers. Have had mine for like 8 years. Bought my 3rd set when last @ $90. Now have one on both PCs and the TV. Easily better value than a sound bar if you don’t mind the sub being there.

  • +2

Have had this on my watch list for a while, got it for $85 after using the free $10 JB Hi-Fi voucher.

    • +1

      Did you buy it online?
If you purchased it instore, you probably get another $10 voucher. :-)

  • How do these compare tot the creative gigaworks t20 series ii? I know the creative don't have a bass, but I tend to dislike big bass units that take up space.

    • Creative have a great sound if you don't care for rumbling bass (it's still punchy enough) but the Logitech have an insane amount of bass for the price (awesome for feeling like you're at the movies). If you want another option that is a space saver consider the Yamaha sound bar YAS-106/7/8 which I think is better than both (but a little more pricey from memory).

  • Have the people recommending these ever put them up against a 5.1 system x-530, x-540, z506? As I noted above, mine ended up going back in a box and I really should sell them.

    • I haven't tied a 5.1 set up. How is the wiring for the back two?

      • The wiring is…well extra wiring. The older ones you could set up in stereo mode. (X-530 required an included adapter, X-540 just had a switch).

  • +1

    Nice speakers for metalcore

  • +4

    I still love my z5500.

  • +1

What would be a good Bluetooth adapter, that can run while charging? Want to use it as the Spotify speakers in the kitchen or for a BBQ and don't want to have issues with battery and Bluetooth… Any suggestions? Very tempted… As I missed out on the edifier bookshelf speaker deal…

    • The Logitech bluetooth adapter is pretty good.. it’s $31.20 in JB Hifi when i bought it 3 days ago.. price matched in OW..

      • Thanks!

  • Nice speakers for a nice price

  • +1

I use a set to upgrade my TV audio, they sound amazing for this price

  • Would the difference between this and a X-530 from 2006 or so be noticeable? Only used 2.1

  • Best speakers I have owned.

  • Back again.
