Republica Organic Coffee Beans Signature Blend 1kg $18 (Was $30) @ Woolworths

101

I have to say that I've been getting my coffee at Aldi but then was concerned about the ethics behind it, so looked elsewhere.

Was looking through ethical guides to find coffee that doesn't involve forced, child and trafficked labour and came across Republica, which also happens to be an Australian company.

Typically, this is $30 for a kilo.

  • Do these have a roasted date on them?

Great find OP. I would typically pay more like $60 per kg for decent fair trade beans.

My only concern is that these are roasted in Sydney before being warehoused and distributed by Coles, so they would lose flavour in the transport process and warehousing times. Without knowing the actual roasting date, you run the risk of getting stale, flavourless beans.

But at this price I'm happy to try it out!

    • "distributed by Coles" I know you meant Woolworths ….

      • Coles sell it too

        • OH Ok ..

    • I love these beans and are my favourite readily available coffee and always grab a kilo when on sale for last few years.

Have purchased about six of these from various Woolworths and/or Coles and every one was acceptably fresh ( I look for newest date at back

of shelf of course lol ).

I'm going to throw in the suggestion for Aldi Lazzio coffee.

I first tried the ground coffee 500gram for ~$6.50. I found the flavour to be full. not bitter. very enjoyable.
finished that and bought Lazzio beans 1kg for $13 to grind in my home cheap grinder machine. -taste is not as good. not sure if the batch of coffee or the grinder/grinding.

will go back to the ground coffee once these beans are finished.

roasted in Melbourne it says on the bag.

Get a better proper Bur Grinder and you will love the Aldi Lazzio coffee beans even more whether having the Medium ( my favourite ) or the

dark roast. It is important to grind to even consistency and to the needed fines/coarseness level for your coffee maker. Fresh is always better

      when done right.

yeah, have ordered a better grinder. see how it goes. cheers

Im loving the newer Lazzio Brazilian and Columbian blends.

      • Agree, especially the Brazilian ( to my surprise as I thought I might prefer the Colombian ), but both nice with fruity notes. I actually also really like the regular Lazzio Medium Roast beans too when I nail the correct grind lol.

Vittoria Organic beans are great too, normally $37kg but fairly often are on sale for $20. Give them a try too when you see them on sale at Woolworths or Coles.

Lately $18. the ones in the paper bag.

Also Grinders (Coke Amatil) is often a similar price and has all the right logos on the bag.

As a rule of thumb, if it's on offer fairly regularly at the Big 2 then it's owned by an equally big corporation that has a bucket of industry money available.

    • Could be a state by state issue? Works perfectly fine for me, and just came home with about 6 bags @ $18 each.

      • Hi, could be. I purchased the Vittoria Organic @$15 about 30 mins ago. Republica still not working, annoying thing is Google adds keep advertising the Woolies, Republica coffee at me now….
