    what kind of ice coffees?

    • +11

I did some searching. It’s the one where there are frozen cups with ice and you use the machine to add coffee.

  • hmmm, good apmol hey

  • +10

    Foodary is the worst word.

  • +14

    Mufnutz doesn't sound too appetising.

Is there a list of participating stores?

    • +1

Probably just the ones that have the coffee machine.

      • I would hope so. I've just checked the website and a search for stores won't show non foodary Ampol servos.

        • +2

I just updated the deal description with a link to the participating service stations.

  • Anyone tasted it to compare with 7-Eleven?

    What’s the normal price?

    • While not 7-Eleven the Reddy/Coles Express one is $2.50 and I'd rate it higher than Ampol.

    • +1

      Normal RRP is $3

  • +3

It's showing as $1.50 in my app.

    • +4

That is a separate offer exclusive to the Ampol app and can only be claimed once every 24 hours.

      • How to claim it? Scan QR code doesn’t work.

      • Who'd wanna drink more often than that?!

  • +1

Somewhere some advertising or marketing exec that came up with the wood "Foodary" gets a hard on everytime they drive by one in their Porsche/Tesla/Whatever, probably on the way to another round of Golf

    • +1

Wouldn’t put Porsche and Tesla in the same sentence esp for a highly paid exec lol

  • +2

Can we get a tier-list of petrol station coffees? Never gotten one from Ampol, so I don't know how it compares to Coles and 7-Eleven (also I'm a tasteless troglodyte)

  • What muffins do they have

    • +2

blueberry, chocolate, banana and orange poppyseed

  • Holding up drivers who just want to get back on the road without delay…

  • +2

Just bare in mind that the caramilk muffin things don't seem to count, even though they are made by the same company as the chocolate brownie things.

They just won't scan for the cheaper price, at least at my site. The Mufnutz are best anyway. Think I'll buy another one now, in fact…

  • Had the normal latte $2 a few days ago and we didn’t even know what was it, not even milk, not even coffee, worst coffee we ever had, ended up throwing right away.

  • Looks like breakfast is sorted for tomorrow. I love their caramilk muffins.

    • The $2 unfortunately does not include the caramilk muffins and the Cadbury dairy milk muffins in this deal, just the great temptations range

  • Why did they change names to Ampol, but still have 2 separate groups not affiliated? Why not just change only Caltex Woolies ones and leave the other ones a different name?

Why did they change names to Ampol

It was due to Ampol no longer having the rights to use the Caltex trademark.

The current company that is called Ampol was formed in 1995 when Ampol merged with Caltex (which was owned by Chevron, the company that owns the Caltex trademark), and this merged company changed its name to Caltex Petroleum Australia Ltd in 1997. In 2015, Chevron divested their ownership share of Caltex Petroleum Australia Ltd and left the Australian downstream market, but allowed Caltex Petroleum Australia Ltd to continue to use the Caltex trademark under a licensing agreement. However, in December 2019, Chevron terminated the licensing agreement, which meant that Caltex Petroleum Australia Ltd was legally required to stop using the Caltex trademark by 31 December 2022. By this stage, Chevron re-entered the Australian downstream market by buying out the Puma Energy network of service stations and wanted to rebrand those service stations to Caltex (which it is still doing at the moment).

but still have 2 separate groups not affiliated?

What two groups are you referring to?

Why not just change only Caltex Woolies ones and leave the other ones a different name?

The question is what are you referring to in regards to Caltex Woolworths?

If you are talking about the old joint venture between Woolworths Group and Caltex Petroleum Australia Ltd, that ended around late 2014 when Woolworths and Caltex decided to end the joint venture and run the Caltex Woolworths service stations separately.

      • The Woolworths-operated service stations used the Woolworths Petrol brand until 2019, when Euro Garages (EG) took over operations from Woolworths, eventually evolving into EG Ampol.

      • The Caltex-operated service stations were rebranded to Star Mart or Star Shop, but most of these service stations continued to accept the Woolworths fuel discount offer. These service stations now use the Ampol Foodary branding.

The general rule of thumb nowadays with Ampol service stations is:

      • Ampol Foodary service stations are owned and/or operated by Ampol themselves, where they set the fuel prices.

      • EG Ampol service stations are operated by EG, where they (not Ampol) set the fuel prices. In other words, EG is an Ampol franchisee.

      • Any other Ampol service stations are almost always operated by independent operators (i.e. are also Ampol franchisees). However, there are outliers to this: for example, the Ampol in Exmouth (WA) appears to be now operated by Ampol, even though it has never used the Ampol Foodary branding.

      • "The question is what are you referring to in regards to Caltex Woolworths?"

So thanks for your information it sounds even more complex than I had understood. There was a stage when there were two types of Caltex gift cards and I could never work out which to use at which station. And then there was the ones which were branded Woolworths and you can use the Woolworths $0.04 off and other ones which were not. I thought it was because there was one group which were working with Woolworths and one group which were not. And I hope that the name change meant they stopped this nonsense. It seems not the case and we continue to have a bunch of different prices and rules and accepted coupons and gift cards under various Ampol brands.

It's not a such a big problem nowadays since they all seem to be way more expensive than independents. I have my 10 cents off because of electricity and it's still usually small than the nearest independent.

There was a stage when there were two types of Caltex gift cards and I could never work out which to use at which station.

Ahhh right, I think I know what you are referring to.

          • Caltex Woolworths gift cards: these were issued by Woolworths Group and could only be used at the Caltex-branded service stations operated by EG. These service stations were the ones that previously were operated by Woolworths under the Woolworths Petrol brand. These gift cards were rebranded to the Fuel gift card in 2021, before being rebranded again to the EG gift card around 2023.

          • Caltex StarCash gift cards: these were issued by Caltex (now Ampol). The physical version could be redeemed at all Caltex-branded service stations with EFTPOS terminals (including the ones operated by Woolworths/EG), whereas the digital version only be redeemed at participating Caltex- and Ampol-branded service stations that chose to accept them (and at that time, service stations operated by Woolworths/EG did not accept Caltex StarCash Digital gift cards). These have been replaced with AmpolCash gift cards.

And then there was the ones which were branded Woolworths and you can use the Woolworths $0.04 off and other ones which were not.

The Woolworths fuel discount is accepted at all EG Ampol service stations across Australia, as well as participating Ampol Foodary service stations. The Ampol store locator will show which Ampol Foodary service stations accept the Woolworths fuel discount (and a lot of these were originally part of the Caltex Woolworths joint venture).

As an aside, Everyday Rewards is accepted at all EG Ampol and Ampol Foodary service stations on mainland Australia. All EG Ampol and Ampol Foodary service stations in Tasmania are currently excluded from the Everyday Rewards program.

It seems not the case and we continue to have a bunch of different prices and rules and accepted coupons and gift cards under various Ampol brands.

Each service station operator within the Ampol network generally set the rules on what gift cards they accept and which fuel discount offers (if any) they choose to accept. For example, the fuel discount offers Ampol accepts at Ampol Foodary service stations are mostly different to the ones accepted at EG Ampol. If you have not already, have a look at the dedicated wiki for fuel discounts to see what I mean.

In terms of gift cards and payment methods accepted across the Ampol network, have a look at this FAQ on the same wiki.

It's not a such a big problem nowadays since they all seem to be way more expensive than independents.

Lucky you, I am glad the independent service stations near you are actually competitive on price!

The independent service stations around me are only around 3-6c/L cheaper when compared with Ampol, Shell, United, etc. I also live in an area with no fuel cycle, which means fuel discount offers become more valuable.
