  • can we upgrade the graphic card for this??

    • depends on what power supply is installed, being an ex government pc they would have gone for the cheapest config, sure it's a little old and only comes with windows xp but it's damn cheap, especially if you can pick up

  • 2 pci slot
Probably but you would have to get a PCI display card. The newish radeon HD5450 would suffice I think

EDIT: It also has a PCIe slot so there you go..totally upgradable

OK deal since it comes with an LCD screen, but a bit cautious about the build quality.

  • Anyone know the cpu model?

  • what's that small port above ethernet?

    • +2

It's not a port, just a hole. (pretty sure) you can see on the top part of the hole how the metal has been bent back, which is why I believe it is just a hole.

  • what's the resolution of the screen?

    • Most likely WXGA, 1280×800

      • eww…

        • +1

Actually, it is 1280x1024 since it's a non-widescreen LCD monitor.

  • cpu is pentium D 3ghz, runs hot but can be nicely overclocked given the right heatsink…

    • Inside a small form chassis — your only options are low profile LGA775 sinks.

  • Optima does not exist anymore. My friend use to work there.
So who takes care of the warranty?

    • .

    • warranty? …

      ;)

  • Judging from my experience using an Acer government computer(pretty much the same spec as this deal), I'll never buy ex government computers.

Sure, if your tech savvy, you can probably get a good deal, for other people, if you run into problems, you'd wish you had spent the extra bit for a brand new computer.

    CPU: Intel Dual Core 3.0GHz

The old P4 Prescot dual-core also makes a good room-heater.

Misleading, why not put pentium D on spec, which is the worst intel CPU ever, low performance and high power 95w at least. really low performance just 812 in passmark, a 25W 1.20GHz Intel Core2 Duo U9300 score 781,
also, 1GB ram must be kidding for current applications, and impossible to upgrade as old memory cost more. This pc is also impossible to run windows 7 and consume much more power.

    • I'm running Windows 7 with Intel Pentium 4 :o

      • +3

run smoothly not suffer, 1GB ram to run windows 7? Also don't forget Optima is a company no longer exist around 3 years ago.

        http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/254405/optima_calls_adminis…

        • 2GBs of ram. I don't suffer because I use the computer to browse the net and play videos, no gaming.
I'm aware Optima no longer exist http://www.optima.com.au/ I've had this computer for about 8-9 years and only upgraded my ram. The ex government desktop will be a upgrade for me and its so cheap.

        • +1

I know someone who runs Windows 7 with 1GB RAM. He has never had a problem with it.

    • +2

      one word: linux

      • +1

Sure, Linux will work fine in 1GB, but I don't need a room heater. Over a long period of use, the electricity cost will add up.

    • +5

Well it states that it comes with Windows XP Pro, which will run fine on the listed specs. Sure, it won't be lightning fast, but it's under $200 …. What would you expect??

      • +1

if you are looking for a every day pc, I recommend pay,
extra $60 for brand new netbook
        or
extra $150 for brand new notebook

        • Actually, an older P4 @ 3Ghz would be faster than any Atom/Fusion powered netbook/notebook. But if you need portable, then sure.

        • A single core atom is roughly the equivalent of a 2.4ghz hyperthreaded P4.

But you also have to consider that an Atom only takes 10 watts compared to 95 watts on a Prescott

  • +11

As it's an ex-Govt PC it won't have done much work ;)

I have got a new core i5 comp in my office running windows xp pro…so it aint bad :P if you are fussy about the OS that is. My company didnt upgrade to vista as it was the worst thing ever. and too slow to move to windows 7 as all their softs are xp based.

my dream of a dedicated youtube PC is one a step closer, Peanut-Butter-Jelly time

  • Good deal if you ask me. < $200 for a complete PC with a LCD and a legit copy of windows.
