The madness comes from when you drive 30 mins to get there, wait 45 minutes in line, all for them to say, sorry we have sold out. Here is a $300 one if you want it…. next please.

Good price, if you can get it.

Definitely agree, though it's not AS much of an issue now. You can order online and then they hold it for a few hours for you to make it down there, collect & pay.

      • +1

I've ordered on line before, but they take hours to get back to you. Every try and put together a PC using their on line stock. You need to get a different part from every branch. Hard work to save a few bucks.

        • Same, I've ordered online & even had an email confirmation of an order ready to be picked up, driven from Newy to Ultimo & arrived as arranged with printout of email to find half the parts not there! I'm normally quite placid, so I didn't go ballistic; I went nuclear!!! :o

I forced them to give me the more expensive brands/models at the previously agreed price, and they didn't threaten to throw me out like I've they do with other people coz I'm no little geek couch-potato - they could see how angry I was after driving 2.5hrs to hear that BS. They didn't like doing it, but I had confirmation in B&W from one of their own halfwits that emailed me. Ironically we're not talking about big price differences, but I wasn't leaving til they coughed up! ;)

They rightly knew if they didn't do the right thing something was getting smashed…I can be quite 'clumsy' when I have to go behind the counter of a dodgy business with all that stock about! My buddy saw them physically drag some poor little guy out & throw him on the little lawn outside once! I was actually kinda hoping they'd try the manhandling bit with me, but they are pretty pea-hearted like most bullies & would pick the easy mark! :p

FWIW, I no longer even consider buying from MSY, they have some stiff competition now that has - shock, horror - good honest service!

        • Ouch Stew, well done!

For the record, I don't shop at MSY anymore either.

        • Yeah I've given up on MSY. Used to frequent their Auburn branch, but now there's this nice little shop called PCDIY that's set up opposite where the Auburn branch used to be. Prices are similar or usually maybe a dollar or two difference. Hardly ever a line, the longest I've waited to be served was 5mins. They actually answer their phone too, so when I call up for stock they answer and tell me whether it is or isn't, if it is turn up and it's there, no fuss.

    • I agree however one the workers in Auburn Sydney branch said that you can check stock online by choosing the correct branch from the menu prior to going down for the queue

    • Dont remind me about it, went there just for one 5m lan cable to keep my order simple, they dared smiled at me and said out of stock, please take 10m!

    • hahaha, so true. i feel for you, dog.

    OW pricematch?

    • If OW sells Iomegas, I don't think they do. But on the upside of things, JB does!

  • Certainly cheaper than WD 1TB's everywhere is over $125.00

  • +1

Got one this morning from Mitcham MSY when I was grabbing some other drives for my NAS(extra 5Tb of extra storage now! Woohoo!)

    • Just out of curiousity, where is the drive made?

      • does it matter?

        • Kind of I'm avoiding chinese made hard drives. =) The S2 Samsung 1TB I own is Made In Korea.

  • +1

    its got on the box,
    'Assembled in China
    Further Assembles in Taiwan'

  • +1
    1. Went to Morningside and they didnt even know they had this deal so still had at least 7 there. I must be the first one there.
    2. IT says its a samsung when i plug it in
    3. Made in China and assembled in TW.
    4. It comes with 2 x usb so may be power hungry.
    5. Not very thin.
    • 2 USB? eehhh…

      • best than ac powered though

        • Generally I'd agree, but I'd prefer ac&usb for a laptop than 2 usb.

      • +1

I am sure its a 'Y' USB cable for older computers with insufficient power output with one USB socket to the hard drive to work. Hence you need two sockets instead if it does not work with one.

        • yeah it is like one long cord and one end it has 2 usb connectors (to the PC)

just like the ritmo HD enclosures

  • Can this be taken out of the enclosure and placed into the laptop??

    • 1) Locate Rubber Circle things(near the top of HD/near usb connection
      2) Take the rubber circles out(use your nails)
      3) You will now see screws, unscrew them and take them out
      4) Take HD out

      • +2

        Eh hem.
        1. Locate rubber do-dads
        2. Undo screws
        3. ???????
        4. Profit

      • I just bought a couple from Cannington WA, had to show the MSY guy their own website to get the right price.

They don't have screws under the rubber. You have to crack the case at the seams and you will definitely break the plastic clips holding it together.

I got Toshiba HDDs inside mine.

        • Oh.

Just though they were the same as the 500GB ones

          Screw
          Rubber

  • Good deal for those who missed out on the $79 Seagate JB misprint.

    • +1

=) And it is probably the cheapest LEGIT deal for 1tb 2.5" external drives.

      • Agreed.

  • Officeworks has WD 1.5TB essential edition drives for $89. not the same as the 2.5 drives but still ok?

  • not bad for those that missed out on the $79 JB pricing error

  • After the $79 seagate deal, this deal is just alright now. :(

    Is Iomega a reliable brand?

    • Well first of all that JB $79 dollar external wasn't a deal, since it was clearly a misprint and made some of us go to so much trouble to get one. IDK about going to OW and asking for a pricematch when I knew it was a misprint, I just wouldn't feel allright about that. On the other hand, this deal is 100% real and valid. There have been some mixed reviews, some say it does its job, whilst others say it is too slow.

      • I went to OW (over a day after the deal was posted on OZB) to get one of those $79, 1 TB drives. I walked in, without anything (ie catalog), said I saw it for this much, asked about getting a price beat, they looked online, found it for 119, or 117 or whatever it was, then THEY insisted they call JB to double check, whereupon, JB quoted them $79… straight from the horse's mouth as they say…. so i dunno… legit pricematch or not?

  • Just grabbed one of these no problems so far.

  • 109 now :(

    • Read the above description I had put. "NOTE: The price shows up on the BANNER on MSY but not in the product link."

  • If you shop at MSY auburn, go across the road to the little business park they used to be in. There is a shop called PCDIY that is waaaaaay better, same or better prices on pretty much everything and fantastic service with no lines!!

  • JB has this on there Web page for $79, but it's not available.
    www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/computer-accessori…

I'm having trouble copying large files. It pause during the copy. looks like it's running out of power. Could be my PC not supplying enough.

  • I bought the 1TB 2.5" Iomega from Orange IT for $99. They still have stock there.

  • I also grabbed one from OrangeIT last week. Worth paying the extra $4 for being able to get it in about 30secs vs going to MSY :D

It's MSY, and a Seagate drive inside. Can't get any worse.
