My phone already does this, I think all Samsung phones at least do.

Ur phone does blood oxy - er no!

      • ER Yes!

Why post if you don't know?

List of phones that have blood oxygen readers

        https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?sFreeText=SpO2

TLDR: All Samsung flagship phones since 2014.

        • I suppose you also believe that your phone reads the electromagnetic frequency of the electrical signals your brain is creating. That's how it knows you're in an REM sleep state of course.

Phones are amazing when you believe in magic!

Last I checked a few phones (S7 and another Samsung), it wasn't accurate.

      • Mine is accurate if you measure it correctly.

Its not hospital level accurate, but the product listed here isn't hospital level accurate either.

        • Most fingertip Spo2 meters with PI (perfusion index) displays are hospital level accurate. It's the same tech. Mobile phones use reflective measurement. Hospital devices use passthrough, such as this unit.

  • FYI - Purple same price also.. Pink & Grey ~$2 more…

    • Any link to the grey version please?

  • samfisher5986 thanks for the heads up! Just installed Samsung Health on my Note 8 and it really does do SPO2!

Be warned though, I had to remove my phone from the case and retest a few times. My initial readings were a worrying 86% (I know my SPO2 readings from the hospital were in the high 90s). Had to re position my finger over the red light and sure enough subsequent readings came up 98%.

From memory it explains somewhere how to measure it correctly.

Mine is fine as long as I don't use the tip of my finger or push on the reader

    • The results are slightly different. Mobile phones use reflected readings, which are influenced by ambient light. These devices use passthrough readings, which are much more accurate. The point of them is to ascertain your spo2 at this point in time. Comparing your phone reading to a reading you took at another time in hospital is not exactly an accurate test.

My $1000+ phone can do that too! :D

    Edit: Well, it's $1500+…

So what about all the people who don’t have a smart phone capable? You’re negging on the pretence that everyone should instead buy a phone like yours for $1500+ instead of this useful $14 device? I think your comment deserves a “-“

What's the difference between the one above, and one for $9.78 from eBay? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/163379133857

      • link?

  • For thoss who say use your smartphone, I've tested a few and they're hit and miss. Something like this is much better, especially for kids/adults who have asthma, etc.

  • Just a note, you don't really need to know your Sp02 unless you are chronically hypoxic. Your own body has check and balances to let you know that you're in respiratory distress.

    • Some people with sleep apnea like to use something like this to keep an eye on the effectiveness of their therapy (no idea on whether that's useful or not, just that it's a thing).

    • You mean they faint…? Would you say the same about heart rate and temperature? Some people who exercise use spo2 to gain a better understanding of how their bodies recover after strenuous exercise and when at altitude. And some need it because their bodies don't function as well as they should.

  • You're much better off getting a reader with a perfusion index score (PI blood flow strength). This tells you how accurate the spo2 test is. A low index below 2.4 generally indicates an inaccurate result, but this unit doesn't report the PI so you have no idea.

  • :( doesn't do alcohol levels :(
