Just saw Dell dropped their price for U2711 monitor from the usual $849 to $799. I'm a NRMA member and with the discount code, I got it for $679.15. As this price looks set to stay, it might get even cheaper if you can wait. :-)

Can i get 7% MBC back if i buy it via phone from dell?
you have to access through the MBC site, not sure about phone purchases though…you could ask Steve or post up a new thread

Are you sure you can use a NRMA code and get a MBC refund? I heard the former cancels out the latter.
You can't use a motoring club coupon and MBC at the same time, it's either one or the other.
You can, however, get velocity points for the purchase using the shopandearn store.
U2311H is $254.14 with the same coupon; does not stack with the $50 off on the U2211H.
great….. i brought mine for $721 on friday …. i am truely deserving of my title …also +1 for beating the price on friday >.>
Japanese more commonly say "kusoneko".
What happened to U2411's? They are not on the website
That's the U2410?
Dell UltraSharpTM U2410
apologies if I'm missing something here
ed: ahh.. didn't notice the extra 1 at the end there, sorry :)
I purchased a Inspiron 15R last week and used one of the codes to get 7% off and also got the MBC as well - transaction was recorded.
There is another coupon for 15% off monitors - JH8$MTNRP2FW45 - so you might be able to use it and get the 7% MBC as well - note MBC calculate on the ex GST price.
Another option is if you are a Virgin Velocity member you can get 3 points per $, and they don't seem to mention not being able to use discount coupons.
Just coz its recorded doesnt mean it will be paid. I have had stuff recorded for a couple of months then cancelled. So not saying yours wont go through, just I would assume not (when its "rumored to be not allowed") till you actually get the cash back :)
You might want to put in the OP that the 15% off coupons are pretty common and that as $800 is the normal price, there's no need to buy it right now.
Am i missing something here??? $680 does not seem very cheap for a 27inch monitor and a dell too which is not a good brand really
Yes you clearly have no idea. Dell Ultrasharp IPS monitors are pretty much the best around.
I have not had much experience with Dell monitors but i know they do not make their own panels.
But I do have alot of experience with dell laptops and they are the worse going around bar compaq
$320 from MSY $480 for a LED 27 inch
different brand but will be better than Dell which in my opinion is one of the worst although im sure with LCDs you will be right as they would be re branded acers or samsungs or something and if it does not fail straight away usually they last for years, LEDs will never get dead pixels by the way
different resolutions
16:9 vs 16:10
That's aspect ratios….but most monitors including the Dell U2711 are now 16:9 anyways.
The U2711 though is a 2560 x 1440 resolution where as these cheapos from MSY will be 1920 x 1080 resolution most likely….
MSY will be 1920 x 1080 resolution most likely….
they are
basically same as comparing a netbook with a notebook
(reasonably) high quality IPS panel here vs the TN panel found in most monitors.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD#In-plane_switching_.28I…
Where did you hear that LEDs will never get dead pixels?
they're all still LCD, it's just the backlightlighting that has nothing to do with the panel that is different.and also with acers and sammys, the cheap ones would most likely be rebranded CMC's or other brands.
Yeah spot on, the panels are still very much the same, its just a LED backlight instead of a CCFL…
IPS has better colour reproduction whereas the TN panel has a faster response time.
I've had the u2711 for quite some time. The first one came DOA, second one has been brilliant. I believe they use almost the same panel in the Apple 27"
it is the same NEC panel, just different coating IIRC

so. many. double posts. X_X
whoops sorry, browser must've timed out or something….
haha, there just seems to have been an influx of them lately :P
Correct, the IPS has much better colour reproduction. 8bit vs 6bit for the TN panels if I recall correctly. If you are just gaming or doing office work, no real benefit. If you are doing anything serious with graphics/video then this monitor is the balls. I got mine for $670 last year and it is brilliant. I have used the 30" on feature films as well and they are also very, very nice.
Please convince me to upgrade my u2410 to this…
Pretty hard sell for an Ozbargainer :P
I have read of Whirlpoolians going from 1x U2410 to 3x U2311H in surround, so that's another option to (potentially) consider.
I hate bezels.
Apparently you get used to it, but I'm having trouble giving you a convincing enough reason to spend nearly $700 on something when you already have the U2410. Unless you're not really an OzBargainer ;)
I want 30" same quality for this price.
wait a few years ;P
it will happen just takes some time
For less price, can get 3x U2211H (http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&l…).
That's 3x1920x1080 (using U2211H) versus 2560x1440 (using U2711) - that's almost 70% more resolution for less price.
The only advantage I can see is that U2711 is 10bit whilst U2211H is 8bit colour depth, but since 99.9% people use 32bit (4x 8bit) "Color quality" in Windows, it'll make no difference.Yeah but we don't like the bezel separating the screens. 1 big is always > 3 small.
AlexF you are comparing 1 x S Class Mercedes to a container load of Hyundai i20's
Err, who's the Hyundai in my comparison and why? Better do your research.
Don't forget 7% MBC for a final value around $630.
