Fantastic offer. Could easily do autobahn, e-store, BP, Flybuys and Wilson Parking.

  • +36

"So the cheapest way to get 10,000 bonus points is:

    $1 spend at Autobarn
    1L at BP
    Flybuys transfer
    Short park at Wilson Parking
    Something cheap at Velocity eStore"

    From the australianfrequentflyers.com.au forum

    • +14

Short park at wilson will set you back about $20 ;)

      • Better to just pay a weekend or evening $7-$8 flat rate

      • when I tried to book a bay, Cheapest I found was 7.5$ for 30 mins. This is in WA.

        • +4

you can do a short 30 min stay in Adelaide for $5 :)

not like you will drive in and drive out, they will charge you the $5 regardless if you come in or don't :)

          • @carhireglobal: so you can book online and not show up and still get the velocity points since you've paid already???

          • +2

@carhireglobal: Recently paid $5 from 6pm-midnight at Wilson Parking East End. True story, great night.

          • @carhireglobal: thanks mate, i checked each SA carpark.

cheapest was East End Car Park @ $5

        • Have a look at places like this in Adelaide:

          https://www.wilsonparking.com.au/park/5095_111-Angas-Street-…

Head to the new park on Angas Street - pay $5, come in after 4pm on Friday night, walk down the street to the Central Markets, catch the tram to Rundle Mall.

No brainer. Have to be out by 5am Saturday.

Will an "earn" from flybuys include the transfer though?? Or more the actual spend with flybuys of over $100 a month at coles to get a transfer?

anyone found any real cheap $1 thing to spend at autobarn and velocity estore to recommend?

      • Buy a bucket from Autobarn ($2 I think) and navigate to ebay from estore and buy something for $1. Should work

        • I found it hard last time around……buckets were $4 I think…..

          • @Coops1: Says $1.99 on the online store. Shouldnt be too much more expensive in store (if at all).

            • @Piranha2004: This was for an earlier promotion - 1000 points for a spend at a velocity partner -, I hunted high and low for something less expensive, trust me it was hard. Will do it again though, east points

        • +2

Thanks. Ill check out Autobarn. DO they accept your velocity card from your phone? LIke BP you need to bring the actual velocity card in to swipe??

I ended up doing a donation to starlight. $1 = 1 point, good cause, chuckd in $2, just to test, happy to do more given the cause anyway. It was listed on the velocity estore so i assume this is considered an 'earn' on the e-store? by clicking through to the partner store?

          • @SaberX: Not sure about the card stuff. I havent used it anywhere else except BP where Ive had to swipe.

          • @SaberX: Got a call in the evening asking if I wanted to go through with my order because of 'suspicious activity'. Then got an email saying my order was ready to collect.

Got an SMS from my local just now… lol

'AUTOBARN CHURCHILL - Due to a high volume of Click & Collect's from the Velocity scam, we will not be processing any orders under $50 until customer collection in store.

            Sorry for any inconvenience.'

            • +2

              @76F: Velocity scam 😂

            • +1

@76F: I just went instore and bought a $1.99 air freshener

              • +1

@puffinfresh: I did the same yesterday, but didn’t have my Velocity card, the lad manning the register was cool and entered the details himself. First/Family name and the Velocity membership number.

I’m waiting for the transaction to appear on my Velocity account.

                I’ll report back.

        • if i dont live near any of the stores will i be refunded if i dont pick up?

          • +3

@tara89: I've done that. Bought a $2 air freshener from Autobarn with no intention of picking up. Will see what happens.

        • +3

Just got back from autobarn Cannington, WA.. had a great laugh over the counter wit hthe staff, even the manager came by for a yak. They were surprised by the heaps of buys coming over to buy 99c buckets, even told me about a dude who produced 3 Velocity cards. I got them all up to speed and it was funny as - "this explains all the guys who came over for those buckets" + "It figures mate haha". After I paid for my buckets, offered to leave them in-store but the good blokes said it'd mess up their stock reconciliation lol. They wished me luck with the other velocity vendors as I walked out :)

      • Buy a fuse, light globe, windshield insert rubbers their all a few dollars

      • Doesn't the $100 spend earn status credits not points though?

      • +1
      • FYI - minimum spend at Autobarn is $3 according to an error message which just popped up when I tried to buy a $1.99 air freshener using “Click and Collect”

        • Just put an order through for pickup $1.99 bucket. Seemed fine for me.

          • @Fatboy74: My bucket order got cancelled :(

    • +5

Sending a parcel with Sendle is also very cheap (cheaper than AusPost) and something you'll probably be doing over Christmas anyway.

      • Good call, I may actually do this!

      • dammit just mailed aparcel yesterday!

      • +1

never heard of or used sendle, is it a physical store or place you go into to mail??

        • Courier picks it up from your location

          • @itsfree: interesting! will keep in mind for next time. tracking and signature on delivery included, and generally cheaper than aus post still?

    • +1

5L minimum dispensing on servo pumps if I recall correctly (might be 2 though - but it definitely is more than 1)

      • +2

It's 2/5L, as in two fifths of a litre.
        0.4L

        • … I have always read that as 2 and a half litres, figured they didn't want to put a full stop ie: 2.5L.

          .<

      • The OzBargainer in me thought “I wonder if there’s anything cheaper available instore” (you can also get Velocity points on BP instore purchases - eg. chocolate bar)!

    • Whats cheap at velocity estore ?

      • Song from iTunes

      • +1

        eBay

      • By anything from Etsy and they have 4 points for every $1 at the moment.

  • Fairly easy

  • -1

    is this a target offer?

  • +3

How much would you value 10000 points at?

    • +6

      $67-$250

      • Thank you! Huge variance but the effort might be worth it

        • +8

~$67 is typically for the purchase of e-gift cards, $110-$130 is the range of point sale earning in Ozbargain classified, and $130-~$250 is where you are interested to fly in first class and use them to book (i.e. no money back)

          • @[Deactivated]: You can still sell velocity points nowadays?
I heard they're cracking this down.

            • @OzBestDeal: Don't know what the current state of play is, but I do recall a poster a few years back who had amassed 600k points…and lost all of them after they looked into her many and varied transfers.

              • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Yes this is what I'm scared about.
There's a thread in OzBargain mentioning people getting cracked down.
Not sure what condition triggers it, but could be large or frequent amount of transfers

                • @OzBestDeal: Or making a single transfer to someone who does frequent transfers and had their account cancelled

      • Thanks for sharing that

    • +1

You can fly between Sydney and Melbourne or Sydney and Brisbane using the Velocity Points you’ve clocked up (from 7,800 Velocity Points + plus taxes, carrier charges and applicable fees).

  • How do you do Wilson Parking?

    • You need an account.

    • +3

Use Book A Bay and enter your Velocity number

      • I can't find a book a bay during a work day in the Perth CBD :( I assume it only works out of hours. Has anyone ever received velocity pionts for booking a bay and not rocking up? I presume you've paid for it already anyway so they should still give you the velocity points??? Can anyone confirm?

        • I just did a Book a bay at Westcentre in West Perth for the early bird 12.50 the whole day

        • Book A Bay only works for certain conditions e.g. earlybird, night parking or weekend parking.

As for doing a Book a Bay and not rocking up but still being credited the points, I always cancelled my bookings if I wasn't going to rock up so I could get my money back

          • @kerfuffle: yeah, looks like there isn't a weekday hourly book a bay parking. I've booked for tonight, was going to park for free at work but will just park at night to see the Sam Smith concert hahha.

        • 7.5$ 6.5$ for 30 mins at Kings Complex in Hay St Weekend rate.

          • +3

@carlJack: Evening parking in Melbourne CBD at Flinders Gate via book a bay with promo code "MARRINER" - $7 for all night.

        • I noticed 152-158 St Georges Tce (Central Park) is good to go for Weekend Parking/Night parking at just $6.50. Book A Bay, then tag in using same Credit card used to pay for it. I'm not sure if Vendor reconciles the payment first before sending trigger to Velocity - I can't be arsed tonight else a 8-9pm booking tonight itself will do it

  • +2

Excuse my ignorance; how does Virgin know you've purchased something from their partners? Do I need to use a specific Virgin credit/debit card? Do I need to supply receipts to Virgin?
    confused

    • You swipe your velocity card at partner or enter details online when purchased online. You earn points on this transactions, velocity will know.

      • -1

I've never swiped my velocity card in store, I'm sure they'd look at you very oddly if you tried to do that?!

        • +3

I know you swipe your velocity card in store at BP, I do it all the time. Their eftpos machine pops up asking for it.

Also pretty sure I've done it at Midas once.

          • @Rusty4: does BP not accept stocard (your ecard stored on an app) still? Midas too? If so I'll have to load my velocity card into the wallet physically haha.

Is there anything at midas that is a few dollars? Or are they mostly servicing?

            • @SaberX: Nope. BP requires the physical card. Not sure how it works with the temporary cards they give out at the counter

            • +1

@SaberX: Careful about Midas, on their webpage they say "our partnership with Velocity means that Midas customers can now earn Velocity Points with eligible vehicle services, including logbook and maintenance servicing". So sounds like points is on servicing only, not on small purchases.

              • @adam: ok good point. I'll try and avoid midas. booked wilson parking for tonight's concert vs using free work parking. for $8.50 i figure it was a better way to 10,000 points than worrying about midas etc.

        • +3

In the case of Autobahn and at time of purchase, you can also tell them your Velocity membership number and they can manually enter it into the POS system.

      • Thanks. That's a good one

  • 10k will get you a short haul flight for free essentially

  • Velocity eStore is on the list of participating partners, so does that mean any point earns via any store on there??

    • I'd assume so, but can't confirm.

    • Nope you have to purchase some on their e-store. Cheapest someone has found is a nail filer.

      • 'some'? Am I interpreting it correct that only one transaction on there would count out of your 5?

      • Estore it self i can't see them selling actual items? SO you need to go through a 'partner' i.e. 3rd party store to buy something and earn velocity points?? So I am not sure if that's what you meant by your comment? BUt that's what I've done? clicked a partner on the estore and did a donation? It earns points on velocity so i'm assuming it ticks off that?

    • yes, would like to know what this means? Does buying on the estore with a linked partner i.e. if i make a donation to starlight, you earn $1 = 1 point for velocity, does this satisfy the e store bonus??

I would do a few dollars for a donation as a good cause and two birds with one stone.

Or does one actually have to physically buy something on their own estore and not a partner that is listed on the estore (and earns you points via cookie tracking)??
