Shuttle SA76G2-V2 Barebones $199.95

60

What is a barebones?

This shuttle barebones consists of a Case, a motherboard and a power supply which are already assembled.
To make it a fully working computer, you will need to fit a CPU, memory, hard drive and DVD drive. You will also need to install an operating system.

Why?

The idea is to have a pre-assembled, tested platform on which you can add components that suit your needs.

Why the SA76G2?

As this barebones takes DDR2 memory, SATA or IDE drives, we think it is a great platform to upgrade an older P4 or similar computer and transform it into a new stylish one. Even if you have older suitable spare parts you can fit them.
If you need a CPU we recommend the AMD ATHLON II X4 Quad Core 640, 3.0 GHz (available in our website).

Highlights:

  • Aluminum chassis, black color
  • AM2+/AM3 (supports up to Phenom X6 CPU)
  • Integrated Cooling Engine 2 (ICE 2)
  • AMD 760G+SB710 Chipset
  • Dual DDR2 800 (8GB max)
  • Integrated ATI RV610 VGA (DirectX 10 Support)
  • 1xPCIe, 1xPCI slots available
  • Dual DVI/VGA output

No HDMI output is a bit of a shame for those HTPC goers.

it has "Daul DVI/VGA output" probably means it has both dvi and vga so you could fit a dvi 2 hdmi adaptor and voila'!

    • Not going to be able to Bitstream HD Audio with that setup though.

      ASRock HTPC's FTW!

      • but it is possible to combine DVI with Coaxial Digital or Optical Digital audio to produce a full digital surround sound connection.

        • Not good enough for some people.
Like the fairytale of the princess with the pea under umpteen mattresses, they insist they can hear compression artefacts in DD5.1 or DTS, and only bitstream will do.

  • Rep, do you have any barebones model for Intel CPUs?

  • $12 shipping to Sydney, $13 express.
    Not bad.

  • Just purchased this with the Express Post option. Will let you guys know how it goes. sent it to work so should get it Monday.

Rep, by Dual DVI / VGA i imagine it has a VGA port available where i can plug in my current VGA cable.

    • Sure, it has a standard VGA output which you can use to plug your current VGA cable.
It also has a DVI connector, which you can use to connect a second monitor.

      • Brilliant thanks for the confirmation

  • I'm guessing you can't add another GPU because that would make it all better
No HDMI for HTPC setup is like shooting yourself in the face ( with a machine gun for added effect)

    • I think you can two extra video cards if you like. It has a PCI express slot, and a PCI slot. I think if you add an ATI card it would support hybrid cross fire for extra GP grunt.

for an HTPC I would add a radeon hd5450 or so, an AMD Athlon 240, and 2 x 1TB HDDs in RAID.

its got not too bad room for expansion for such a small case.

just makes you sound like a 12yo with a new toy.
Even VGA or component is more than good enough for HTPC. The problem is in the display - some LCD/plasma do not produce the best picture from VGA-in. e.g. they rescale (no 1:1). Its not the fault of the PC.

      • just makes you sound like a 12yo with a new toy.

        That really answered my question!

No way I would use Component but yeah I know VGA cables can do 1080p but they can't to DTS and 3D. Also I have had problems using mkv files over VGA. HDMI is heaps better at audio and the newer v1.4 allows ethernet channels for all those with IP-enabled home entertainment devices.
For people with 4K monitors( not too many of them) HDMI is the only way to go

For the added convienience I would definitely go HDMI over VGA, so I say spend a few bucks more and add a video card for future proofing and stability

        • yeah I know VGA cables can do 1080p but they can't to DTS and 3D.

Component can do 1080p also. And S/PDIF does DD and DTS.
          Sure HDMI has advantages.

        • never got that same quality with components plus the ports are troublesome

  • Hi Again,

Any idea if this system supports a AMD X6 1090T 3.2 Ghz CPU?

Also any idea if the Nvidia 430 GT fits in this form factor.

I can't see it on Shuttles supported list. Would be nice to know.

    Thanks,

    Adrian
