    • +1

      Hi!
      3000k Warm White - 600lm
      5000k Neutral White - 670lm

      Colour Rendering Index: CRI >80

      Cheers! JD✨

  • How does the gimble frame work? My roof is on a 30 degree slope.. will these suit it? Thanks

    • +1

      Hi,

The gimble variant can be adjusted so that they point down.

      https://www.jdlighting.com.au/martec-genesis-gimble-12w-led-…

I have just opened a unit to check, and its safe to say there is at least 30 degrees of adjustment in them, so they will come close to pointing straight down on your ceiling.

      Cheers! JD✨

      • Thanks mate. Do you have these in white instead of nickel?

        • The only combination of these downlights left in Gimble are Brushed Chrome with 3000k Warm White.

How many were you after, and I can have a look at what else we can do a deal for you on. 👍

          • @JDLighting: After a few. It’s a combined, open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area. Prob after around 20. Slope of room is about 30 degrees, as mentioned. Thanks for helping, great service :)

  • Aldi's selling some next week - might be worth comparing them…

Good Pickup! But completely different unit.

Based ONLY on the pics from what can be seen on their website:

      Aldi Unit: in-built driver
Martec Unit: External driver (better for heat, as its seperate from LED chips and heat sink)

      Aldi: Plastic heat sink
      Martec: Metal Heat sink

      Aldi: 90mm Cutout
Martec: 70mm or 90mm versions available

      Aldi: 10w
      Martec: 8w or 12w

      Aldi: 10w 90mm $9.99
      Martec: 8w 70mm $7.57 , 12w 90mm Gimble $9.96

      Aldi: Warranty ?
      Martec: 3 Years

      Cheers! JD✨

  • We’ve currently got standard light fittings, is it expensive to get them replaced with these LEDs?
I noticed your website recommends surface socket outlets, what are they?

    • +1

      Depending what you have originally.
If you have 70mm downlight holes, these will be a straight swap. Only thing needed is an electrician to legally unwire your original downlights, and wire these ones in,

The surface sockets are the sockets that get installed in your circuit in your ceiling. This way the power gets wired to the sockets, instead of directly into the driver, As these lights have an Australian power cable attached to them, it makes installation/uninstallation easier in future as they simply become plug and play.

      Hope this helps!

      • Thanks for that, I actually don’t have downlight holes, just the standard incandescent light fitting.

        • Downlights shouldn't really be used for general lighting. It's not what they are designed for.

There's probably a better option than DLs.

I have 33 DLs in my apartment and it sux as half of them are unsuitable for the job they need to do

  • Aldi: Plastic heat sink

Never heard of plastic heat sinks, I wonder how they work?

    • +1

The top of the light has little spikes on it to disperse the heat. Some LED's just have a molded top with plastic spikes, and better quality LED's have a metal array on top. Metal = better. The main thing with OP's lights is the external driver. All cheap crap has that inbuilt, whereas an external driver allows you place it in a better location (ie on top of a rafter instead of stuck under the roof insulation).

        UFO nailed it. 👍

All comes down to manufacturing costs to bring the cost down to the end user. Plastic is cheaper to manufacture than aluminium.

        • Thanks mate. Only reason I know is because we built only a few years ago and already have had LED's dying on me. I get up there to have a look and sure enough plastic junk up there, and most with inbuilt drivers. Have replaced the ones that have died with a local supplier, but not the prices your quoting.

Will remember you the next time I need to buy some, as you've given good advice here and I like to reward good customer service.
I can only assume more will die as time goes on so I'll bookmark your page. Cheers.

@UFO: Sucks to hear about them failing already! Most of the LED gear that is being sold in Aus usually have around a 3 year warranty. See if you can get in touch with your builder to find out where they were purchased. You never know, you could see about getting them swapped over, or better yet upgraded to a newer model.

No Problem! Just let us know what you need, and we would be more than happy to help. 👍

    • They aren't heat sinks as such. The plastic ones are heat encapsulators which probably isn't a good thing in the long run.

  • Op, you mention https://www.jdlighting.com.au/cougar-lighting-predator-12w-l… is for sale at $19.97……how do I get this price?

Edit: you mention it here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/393242

  • When does your Black Friday promotion end? This deal has no expiry date and other "Black Friday" deals seem to go for various durations so I thought I would ask. I noticed that you are in Browns Plains so I'll probably drop in for a look next week when I'm out that way.

    • Hi JDR!
The Black Friday event has finished.
However, there is a current promotion listed here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/420898
It is similar, if not better than the black friday deal.

This deal for these downlights is while stocks last. We are hugely overstocked, and this is their clearance price.

These downlights are available in-store at this price. 👍

  • Hi rep, any cheaper on the slightly larger model? https://www.jdlighting.com.au/martec-infinity-10w-smd-led-di…
