Totally different machines and slightly different uses - get both! The stick vacuum is great for anything above a robot Vac's reach, e.g. Couches or ceilings (spiders), or as a way to tidy up a spill of cereal or something.
Robot Vac runs every second day in my house, great way to keep on top of the floors. I'd get the s50 or earlier model, you'll love it
Hey so I believe the only difference between V8 Animal and V8 Absolute is the inclusion of the "soft roller cleaner head" tool (as per http://blog.mchardyvac.com/2016/12/dyson-v8-animal-and-v8-ab…)
I went to the Dyson website and couldn't find the "soft roller cleaner head" to buy, where can I buy a legitimate (preferably new) one? I can see a couple on eBay for like $100-150 but I'd rather get a new one from Dyson…

What's it being discontinued for? A dyson V9?
A quick Google brought up some articles saying that since about May the Animal is the only type of V8 that's still in production. The V10 came out at around the same time. I suspect they're trying to simplify their product range. There isn't much separating the V7 and V8 so one of them could go.
V7 using v6 motor so much less power. Only difference between v6 and v7 is there battery where v7 gets a longer life battery.
@JCRALLYART: That's not quite true. The V7 has more brush bar power, but it appears that the suction itself has a similar power. The V7's physical design is a lot better, essentially the same as the V8.
@kranix: I wonder if a next gen V8 will get any battery or power upgrades, its approx 2yrs old?

Dyson do price matching directly! I called them up and pointed them to TGG deal online, and they sold me the same deal over the phone. No extra cost for delivery.
They were as surprised as I was at the $479 price.

One hour after making the phone order, I still hadn't received the confirmation e-mail. I called them up again, and they confirmed that the order is in the system but it's taking longer than usual to move out of the "pending" state. She sent me an SMS as an interim confirmation and she's keeping an eye on the order.

I cant find the part on the Dyson website, do you have to call make the order. Do you know approximately how much is the soft roller head? It is selling around $170 on ebay and the Absolute is only selling $699, so is not a much different.

Buying dyson 1st time. I ordered v7 animal for $369 from amazon yesterday. Is this v8 animal and better than v7 ? Can i still cancel my order from amazon ?
The V8 has more powerful suction than the V7 and has a longer battery life. Otherwise, they are very similar. I nearly bought the V7 myself.
When I spoke with Dyson, they said that the V8 and V10 are intended to be complete replacements for corded vacuum cleaners, and the V7 and V6 are more for spot cleaning.
Also consider that the deal here is from Dyson Australia, so you're going to get the full local warranty. The Amazon one comes from the USA.

V8 Animal is better than V7 Animal; the battery will last longer. The higher the number after the V, the better it is (allegedly)
