Cheaper Netflix Via VPN for Existing / New Subscribers (E.G Basic $4.07, Standard $7.11, Ultra $10.16 Per Month W/ No Fee Card)

9530

Greetings everyone, I was trying to figure out a cheaper way to get Netflix easily (rather than use iTunes billing and other avenues) and I found this thread over at MyDealz, I thought it was worthwhile to share it.

You can get Netflix for significantly cheaper by signing up / renewing via a quick VPN trick. I only just updated my plan 30 minutes ago, and signed up for the Ultra plan (UHD, 4 Devices) via Argentina and got charged 229 Argentinian Pesos which equated to be $8.99 for the month via my no fee card.

This works out to be approximately 50% of the pricing of Australian Netflix (Basic $9.99, Standard $13.99, Ultra $17.99).

Neil also completed a great write up a few years ago about this, check that out for further reference to assist with getting the deal.

Some examples of the pricing can be found here (I have highlighted the cheapest for each package in bold:)

Turkey:

  • Basic: 15.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$4.06 AUD Per Month)
  • Standard: 27.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$7.11 AUD Per Month)
  • Ultra: 39.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$10.16 AUD Per Month)

Argentina:

  • Basic: 129 ARS (Equates currently to ~$4.97 AUD Per Month) Now 149 ARS
  • Standard: 169 ARS (Equates currently to ~$6.51 AUD Per Month) Now 219 ARS
  • Ultra: 229 ARS (Equates currently to ~$8.82 AUD Per Month) Now 299 ARS

Argentina has now been updated to a new pricing structure. Turkey is now the cheapest.

Hits has kindly made a spreadsheet with the current pricing in AUD from the cheapest countries.

If you have access to a VPN, it is an extremely easy process:

For New Subscribers:

  1. Connect to a VPN that has the cheapest pricing for the package you require per the spreadsheet above.
  2. Go to Netflix and enter your details to sign up to a new account.
  3. Go through and select the package that you would like, make sure the prices are in the desired currency per the VPN.
  4. Continue through and sign-up, your billing will now be in the currency per the VPN.
  5. Turn off the VPN and your account will be Australian, but will bill in the cheaper currency.

For Existing Subscribers:

  1. Go to Your Account and Cancel your subscription. It will expire at the end of the billing period.
  2. When the billing expires, Connect to a VPN of your choice, login and click reactivate your subscription.
  3. Go through and select the package that you would like, make sure the prices are in the desired currency per the VPN.
  4. Continue through and complete the reactivation, your billing will now be in the currency per the VPN.
  5. Turn off the VPN and your account will be Australian, but will bill in the cheaper currency.

Your account will only have titles from a different country if you are connected via VPN. With this method, It will charge in the foreign currency, but your account will have Australia titles :)

It is worthwhile to continue to check which country is the cheapest each month to get the best price :)

There's heaps of VPN deals around if you don't have access to a VPN yet, I used Windscribe for reference and connected to Argentina with ease.

I really hope this helps people out, it's definitely helped me out :)

All credit must go to Luca Lutz @ MyDealz for the help.

As always, enjoy!

I dont know if this will help anyone…

NordVPN - 7 day trial.- Argentina
CyberGhost - 7 day trial - Argentina (someone said they have a 24hr trial but i didnt see it)
PureVPN 3 day trial $2.50 - Argentina Servers
    SaferVPN - Argentina - Free 24hr Trial
ExpressVPN - Argentina - 30 days moneyback full refund
    Windscribe free - No Argentina
    Windscribe paid - Argentina
    ProtonVPN - No Argentina
    SigaVPN - No Argentina
    Mullvad - No Argentina
    Hide.me - No Argentina
    Trust.zone - No Argentina
Private Internet Access - No Argentina
    Betternet - No Argentina
    VanishedVPN - I couldn't easily find a server list

I will try SaferVPN friday - need to go to bed now.

    • Thanks! Good night mate

    • Ahh now I understand… CyberGhost 24 trial is via the app rather than via the webpage.

    • Great work, cheers.

    • Haha wtf

  • If you want free netflix just sign up to 30 days free trial every 30 days .
Using PayPal is fairly easy for this. You just go into PayPal settings immediately after signup, and revoke automatic payment permissions for netlfix (or any other trial service) then at end of ftee trial, it will attempt to bill you for another month etc, but PayPal won't allow it. Will get message saying trial over.
Repeat, another 30 days free trial. Can have Stan, Netflix, Amazon Prime, GooglePlayMusic, etc , all free for that month (or usually 3 months for Play Music).
Note, you must REMOVE CARD from paypal, then CLOSE that account You will get a message, sorry that you are leaving PayPal your welcome back any time.
Sign up again with PayPal, same card, ALL YOUR REAL DETAILS, do not lie about name, date of birth, address etc when creating a PayPal bank account, as this would likely be criminal fraud
Note. It might be frustrating as you maybe lose track of the stuff favourited in your list, from previous months netflix/stan etc. If this bothers you, I found the simplest option is to download netflix on mobile phone, then have old netflix logged into tv, then add everything to you new netflix account (logged in on phone) . If you only have about 20 items saved, this is fairly quick, if you have hundreds saves, night take a while. Similarly, if you want to move the save of which ep you are upto over to new trial subscription, just navigate in new account to episode you're upto then play into it (fast forward) a couple of minutes, then you have a marker for you to go back to :)

    • This looks promising. If it's free then nothing to complain!

      • True, especially something like Stan, where I rarely even use it,and IMO definitely not worth $10month, but for free.. Might as well have it :)

        • Would I have to create new email addresses aswell?

          • @ramona: Probably. I just create new everything each month. Netflix ain't the police or ATO etc. I don't like giving out any of my genuine details online tbh. No need to risk identity theft in such a way.
Call yourself Mr Joe Bloe , make an email joebloe782 joebloe783 joebloe784 (it's easiest to have some sequence to your disposable email addresses, that way if you need them again, not hard to remember) .
Make sure you use real details regarding name etc for PayPal as that is a bank account of sorts, shouldn't be making bank account in fake name for obvious reasons

  • Do you have to reconnect to VPN every month to do the billing or just once only and it’ll automatically charge at that foreign price forever?

    • +1

They will just continue to bill you in your sign up currency.

Tried both Argentina and Turkey but no dice with any of the following cards:

    • Macquarie Debit MasterCard;
    • CitiBank Debit MasterCard;
    • CUA Visa Debit; or
    • GEM Visa.

Also used both SaferVPN and Getflix VPN's.

  • Wow. Thanks for this. Will swap my Ultra subscription over when it expires!

  • Just tried and no luck with CBA platinum MasterCard.
Anyone have this card and got it to work?

  • +1

Just worked with my Bankwest Qantas Platinum debit MasterCard

    • which VPN did you use mate?

  • +1

Tested on these cards and NOT working.

    • Macquarie Debit MasterCard (Platinum)
    • 28 Degrees
    • Coles MasterCard
    • ANZ Visa Platinum (Rewards)
    • CBA Normal MasterCard
    • CBA Debit MasterCard
    • 28 Degrees was reported as working.
I also tried ING orange everyday, ANZ visa frequent flyer and CBA platinum debit none worked

Now a list of of cards that worked please

      • yet still you need to wait a few days for the card to be delivered until you can start using it

  • Any one want to share their premium family account?

  • Waits for accounts to be blocked.

    • They'll probably introduce a location-based time restriction like Spotify did. I can't see Netflix not being aware of this workaround.

      • To my knowledge Spotify retracted that restriction after publicity backlash. I may or may not be on a phillopino Spotify family plan right now.

Thanks. I've gone through Brazil as my VPN didn't have turkey or Argentina. Still get a free month so see what happens in a month :)

I figure this should work with Stan also. ANyone tried?

    • +3

Stan is only in Australia though, so I doubt you'd be able to sign up via in Argentina.

  • What happens to your personalisation when you cancel /rejoin?

    • +1

      It stays exactly the same

An update to this post from me earlier:

Tried both Argentina and Turkey but no dice with any of the following cards:

    Macquarie Debit MasterCard;
    CitiBank Debit MasterCard;
    CUA Visa Debit; or
    GEM Visa.

Also used both SaferVPN and Getflix VPN's.

Managed to get it work first time when using the iOS app for SaferVPN and my CitiBank card. I was using the Firefox browser on all the above attempts so it might be worth trying different browsers or devices to sign up.

    • Interesting, so you're saying the issues people are having are down to the sign up method rather than the credit card?

      • Tried with nordvpn and exressvpn CBA ANZ and ING cards with no luck.
I find hard to believe is the method rather than the card

      • +1

I'm just stating what didn't and did work for me, not saying it will work for all. After issues last night I tried again on my iPhone this morning using a card that didn't work last night and it went through.

        • Thanks for sharing, just tried SaferVPN app + iOS Safari (non-Private) + 28 degrees. It's saying Sorry, something went wrong, please try again later. Might leave it for a bit and try again later.

  • Anything similar for anime?

  • Nice. Still paying in usd when originally got Netflix many years ago. Might have to change to this process

  • +1

Is this against the Netflix terms of service though?

    • I'm also curious about this, is this technically fraud? Could I get my account banned for doing this?

  • Using NordVPN for turkey but it still shows me prices in USD starting from 7.99, what am I doing wrong?

    • Are you positive it’s connected to Turkey? Try ipleak.net to confirm unless you’re using an email address you’ve used before possibly.

      • Yes iPleak shows Turkey. Its an existing account that I'm trying to subscribe from. Do I need to create a new account?

        • I think NordVPN are one of a few that doesn't seem to work. Tried Turkey and Argentina, no dice.

          • @dingdong3000: what did you use then if not NordVPN to get it working?

            • +1

@amsaini15: I use NordVPN normally for Netflix and I can confirm that Turkey/Argentina doesn't work for NordVPN.

I got this to work via CyberGhost VPN (1 day free trial) via mobile

  • If I don’t use a fee free card roughly how much extra would the cost be (MasterCard me bank)

    • circa 3%

      • +1

Ok thanks, I think I’ll be able to weather the 26 cents

  • +1

Still not having any luck… tried Chrome, Chrome incognito and firefox.
Comes up with "something wrong with your payment method" with ING, CBA debit and credit cards.

    :(

    • I’ve been having this exact issue. With and without VPN for months! What the heck I don’t understand. This is with my bank credit and debit cards and my 28 degrees.

Looks like Netflix wants be to obtain their content through “alternative means”.

  • +1

worked for me using amex, thank op!

    • Which Amex do you have?

      Didn't work on my Explorer

28 degrees worked via cyberghost app on android.

    • 28 degree doesn't appear to work directly! Thanks will try this.

    • Thanks for that, I just tried exactly the same (28Deg on Android via CyberGhost) and it worked a treat!

    • cyberghost vpn not working for me on android, netflix website keeps redirecting to au

  • Great deal OP!
Will be sure to keep an eye out on exchange rates now.
Also FYI as it would be an overseas purchase, If you want to avoid the foreign transaction fees, you should be using a card with none. e.g. 28degrees

  • Success!! Had cancelled my subscription to share-in a friend's plan. Subscription luckily ended today, renewed for $4.11 (actual charge on CC) for basic plan. Connected to turkey on PIA, paid via 28degree.

  • Now I need a credit card. Which ones can be used the same day it gets approved/registered?

    • Not aware of any physical card. Maybe some sort of virtual card?
Or grab a prepaid debit and load it with some cash?

  • Nordvpn free 3 day trial

    https://free.nordvpn.com/

  • Tried Turkey with Private Internet Access and 28Degrees. Didn’t work. It said something wrong with payment. Worked with Torguard and 28Degrees.

  • Using NordVPN, cannot open netflix site. Did youtube thing and it worked fine.
Is anyone else having problem opening netflix? Have tried Turkey and Argentina.

  • +1

Can you use paypal for this?

    • Not an option.

      • Darn. Thanks for the help

      why r u here then…

  • Finally, managed to subscribed after several cards error
Ios via saferVPN - argentina - citibank debit.
    BOOm. Tnx OP

    • what browser mate?

      • iOS by the looks of it, the same process that worked for me after many failures.

        • What browser in iOS? Or was it via the iOS Netflix app?

          • @Ge3ks: The SaferVPN iOS app did the trick for me followed by accessing Netflix via the Safari browser.

            • @MaximumEffort777: Ok, thanks Jonesy. I guess my Commonwealth Mastercard or Woolworths Visa aren't accepted then.

        • Did you try turkey?

  • +3

Get 20% off lifetime Windscribe VPN through stacksocial for $47.20.

Tried SaferVPN through PC/iOS/Android with no luck at the payment method using multiple credit cards.
    ANZ Black Frequent Flyer
    Bankwest Platinum
    Westpac Altitude AMEX
    AMEX Essentials
    Bankwest Debit Mastercard
    Macquarie Bank Debit Mastercard
    Suncorp Visa Debit
    Anz Visa Debit
    Coles Platinum Mastercard

    All these cards have failed

    • You can add;

      Woolworths Platinum Visa
      Commonwealth Mastercard

These don't work either. Tried them on PC, Android and iOS. SaferVPN and Windscribe Pro in Argentina.

    • +1

Windscribe and Bankwest Platinum worked for Turkey on Firefox
Initially said: "Sorry, something went wrong, please try again later."
But credit card details saved and linked to account when VPN turned off and logged in as Aus

      • This is brilliant! Tried both Turkey and Argentina with my ING card with no luck. So I did this:
        - Connected VPN on iOS and got the error.
        - Disabled VPN and it passed to the last step (DON'T CLICK "START MEMBERSHIP"!!!) It'll show price in AUD - DO NOT PROCEED!!!
        - Enable VPN
        - Change Plans to Argentina
        - Click Start Membership

    • Finally worked.
      Safer VPN via Argentina.
Searched Netflix Argentina and went through https://www.netflix.com/ar-en/login
      Logged into my old account.
Tried my ANZ Qantas Frequent Flyer which failed.
Tried my Macquarie Debit Mastercard which WORKED.
      $6.59

  • +1

28 Degrees and SaferVPN free trial worked for me on IOS Chrome.

  • Commbank mastercard isn't working. Does the payment have to be via card or can we use Direct debit/paypal at all (turkey)?

  • +1

    Safervpn + 28 degree + iOS safari.

  • Worked for me. Existing account. Used cyber ghost on Android to Vpn to Argentina. 28degrees card accepted. Ultra 4k plan for $9 now

VAT on top of the current monthly fee (showing pre-tax now).

    Any idea?

    • I didn't get charged any VAT, I got charged the pre-tax amount

      • Maybe soon next year.

        • If that's the case, will just have to change to another country then..

  • Not sure if Netflix is blocking the credit cards or our credit card provider. I wonder if we advise our credit companies that we are going overseas if the credit cards would then work?

    • I think its Netflix. Youtube deal worked like a charm. Many people have tried multiple cards for this one, no success. I have given up tbh.

      • Yea think i'll throw it in the too hard basket. Was going to order a 28 degrees card or try turkey VPN but I'll wait and see if anyone else has better luck…

        • I tried to apply for a 28 degrees card. The form requires a landline number before you can proceed. I haven't had a landline for years. Neither has my workplace. I could add a fake one, but all the personal financial questions are too invasive for my liking. Think I will just pay for Netflix via discounted Aussie iTunes cards.

    Hi Guys

Give you update on my experience, I have tried some countries that VPN could be connected with….turkey, us, HK, and estimated exchange rates and credit card transaction charges etc… once you input credit card details and all shown errors. I have used about 10 different credit cards and debit cards from variety of OZ banks…all did not work. There is only one conclusion, you must use the bank card that originated from that country to be able to go through the process. If you hold turkey bank card or HK bank card, you should be right. AD$18 per month for premium membership is not too bad, at moment only a very few counties membership is cheaper than us, once you add exchange rates, international converting fee, bank fee charges, you would be expecting even or higher than paying in Australia. Plus all the hassles.
I could not get vpn connection to Argentina, if you could get through, that is another story. Because the money value gaping.
    Good Luck All

    • There is only one conclusion, you must use the bank card that originated from that country to be able to go through the process.

Well it's not the only conclusion as quite a few of us managed to sign up with AU cards. Seems like there's been some luck over the last few posts using the SaferVPN app on mobile devices.

What personally worked for me was:

      • SaferVPN app on iPhone using Argentina;
      • Access netflix.com in Safari browser; &
      • Used CitiBank debit MasterCard.

All previous attempts failed using my PC and various cards.

      • -1

More information on connection, seemed very one had good luck on VPN to Argentina and paid alright with all your bank cards.
I stick to my situation and conclusion, as far as I tried, you have to use the credit card originated from that VPN country. At the end, I used HK VPN connection on www. Netflix.com/HK/. Memebership HKD 93 per month, tried all my OZ bank cards and credit cards without success. On last thought I had HSBC debit card with multi currency account, include HK dollar currency. I tried this OZ debit card and it went through without any hassle. Horay! This had approved what I said about card that you use to pay. Must be in the currency for that country. Now I am watching Blight on Netflix.

        • +1

Your situation doesn't prove anything about what you said. It only proves that cards that have local currency work. It does not prove that cards from other countries don't work.

My Australian Qantas Bankwest debit MasterCard worked for Argentina. That proves that it CAN work.

          Your logic is flawed.

          • @NoApostrophePlurals: As I said in my post earlier, I could not VPN to Argentina, so your case in Argentina is exception for me. You are trying to say I am wrong, but at least you have tried my path before your judgement. Different countries has different regulations on using foreign credit cards. Don’t concentrate on argument afterall we enjoy value added services. This should be only logic for all.
