  • This vs Nokia 8 vs Pocophone

I just bought mi 8 SE after searching for so long. mi 8 SE has AMOLED display compared to Pocophone F1 which has LED. The built quality of mi 8 is much better than pocophone f1. however, the pocophone f1 is using the state of the art CPU. No idea about Nokia 8

      • +2

Build quality is better on Nokia 8 + you get clean/stock Android but not Android One. The 710 in the 8SE is newer than the 835 in the Nokia 8 and is probably comparable in terms of speed.

Xiaomi's MUI is not for everyone though, so unless you like skins I'd go for the Nokia - unless you want to unlock the bootloader + root and put LineageOS on it, in which case Xiaomi all the way as the dev. community is much bigger and active than Nokia's.

      • how's the camera ?

    64GB RAM

    That's a lot of RAM. :)

    Chinese Version, not Global Version

This is annoying to fix. Buyer beware.

      • I think i read somewhere you have to wait 720 hours to use after you flash?

      • there is no official global rom for the SE
you can't lock the bootloader so forget about google pay and bank apps

  • +1

I am a big fan of Xiaomi phones and have own a few. Less hassle if you get the "global" version instead as it just works, even if you have to pay a little more.

Yep have a Redmi Pro and because it does not have a global rom its pretty much useless unless you are planning to tinker around with it and put another rom on it. Once you do that then the auto-update feature will stop working. Also applying the other roms has its own issues.

      • What kind of issues do you have with the Chinese ROM? I'm thinking of purchasing, but everyone seems to prefer International ROM. Wouldn't installing the Google Play APK make using the usual apps like Messenger work fine?

        • +1

you literally can not use google play with the chinese rom. You can't just install the google play apk.

ALso you need to buy the global version now because xiaomi has put in measures where if you flash a global rom on a chinese version of the phone and you look the bootloader, the phone will be bricked

          Hey Faith,

          From my experiences:
          - lots of Chinese apps that I will never use.
          - Issues with my Google Sync, my contacts appeared twice at one stage.
          - Google Play in-app purchasing errors.

The issues may sort itself out, but it's a hassle.

Before you can install the global rom, you need to request to unlock your account. Not a straight process.

I highly recommend buying an official global version which is sealed and unopened. It just works!

          Cheers, Bk

    • There is no global ROM for this phone, so if you want global you'll need to find a different Xiaomi, such as the (bigger) Mi 8.

I have the Mi 5 global version and agree it just works. I'd upgrade if I could just find a new Xiaomi that had a global ROM and wasn't much bigger than mine.

  • Does it have Widevine L1?

    • Nope. It's coming to POCO F1 soon so it may come to other phones after.

I was about to buy and found out it is the Chinese version. I don't think I can flash the ROM by myself.

  • Anyone have guide to flashing to international ROM?

    • There are various methods to flash the ROM to the international one. The guide on the fastboot method can be found here:
      http://en.miui.com/a-234.html

      • there isn't an official global rom for the SE though. Those are multilanguage

  • Wow Chinese descriptions are getting worse…

    Processor Manufacturer: Qualcomm

It might as well just say:
    CPU: Yes.

    It's a snapdragon 710.

    Just FYI:
It's an AMOLED display. I've personally been avoiding these now, my last phone had an issue with burn-in. Simple things such as the 'G' search button on the side of the keyboard would still faintly appear after closing the keyboard. Never experienced this issue with normal LED displays.

    • The Processor Manufacturer IS Qualcomm.

      That is 100% accurate.

      • They provide no information on which Qualcomm CPU… The main information one would look for is missing - that's the issue I'm outlining.

  • Get a Pocophone.

845 is a beast, so is the 4000mah battery.

It comes with its own unique launcher, POCO launcher, which works like stock android.

    Edit. Themes man. Themes!
